Why are people so angry over this?

As if we needed this guy to tell us there was not a fleet of UFOs hiding behind the comet. Anyone with an ounce of common sense could have told you the same. And I believe in UFOs.

It's funny, thousands of years after people would freak out over heavenly bodies.. and they are still doing it.

I think it could quite well be the same guy, different angle different lighting. I wouldn't be on here if i did not believe that there are conspiracies but if the first picture is of the astronomer then the second one is.

I'm not saying that there are flying saucers behind it, but if there are I don't think they would be hiding, it may be possible that they are just hitching a ride.

The ID looks like an average low budget company Russian ID. But the problem with it:

- the serial number looks unusual. ID numbers normally have a letter or 2 in them;
- the cover of the ID looks old and used, the edges are worn off. Now look at the picture that's in the ID? The edges look freshly trimmed and the top part is sticking out, looks like it just got glued to the ID.
- The writing on the stamp does not make any sense. It's supposed to say the name of the organisation, instead there is nonsence written on it. Anyone could do that.
- If he wanted to prove his identity, he would have no problem showing a real passport, not some library ID card.

That deserves a star, I suspected that might be the case. But the then the question becomes, if he was so worried about people thinking he's "a fake", why not show the camera some "real" ID instead of some sloppy institution ID.

Maybe it's because Mr. Elenin's mind isn't contrived with incessant conspiracy theories like we are on ATS. I am 22 years old, but some people find me to look older and some find me to look younger. When I present my I.D at the casino, the security checks me out and then allows me to proceed. At that moment, i'm not thinking in my head "oh my, was that a good enough picture? Maybe it wasn't.. they're going to debate my existence in their conference room afterwards!"

In summary, what I'm saying is... he didn't really see a means to prevent a conspiracy theory because the thought never grazed his mind. That in itself, to me, shows genuinity.
But you need to man up to youur ognorance a little bit.. no matter what this guy provided as i.D, you'd still be sitting on here asking further and further quiestions until you hurt yourself trying to find a deeper meaning that isn't there. It's called obsessive-compulsive disorder. You might want to get that checked out.

People usually get angry when they are being lied to their faces. How hard is it to just not lie? There probably no spaceships behind any comet. Who would fly a spaceship behind one? Any 10 year old kid who played space computer games would think that the rocks and ice from the comet would make it more difficult to fly, not easier. Just a thought.

But as for this show, it looks like someone who is monitoring russian internet got concerned and told his journalists to make something up so the panic would calm down.

Elenin's been filled in on all of this since it started. So he's known everything that we've known - and even gave people reason to believe he was an insider. One time he posted alignments as if he thought they were weird, too - but I think he was just being honest and engaging with people!

I think what we have is an odd name - literally translated, it is a bit bizarre (meteor shower that peaks in november from leo, extinction level event, sumerian planet) coupled with an awakening, a realization that we don't really know what's going on in our solar system and we cna't trust NASA to find out if there's a looming 2012 threat

Yeah, There is a significant difference in the facial structure, this does need investigating.
What If the government have seen how big this conspiracy has gotten and now need to do something quick to prevent the truth from being spilt, so they get a seemingly identical Leonid Elenin to say on national tv That it's a Hoax, That way people's minds are put at rest, it acts like closure on the discoveries that surfaced when Comet Elenin was discovered, we need to start digging people, this is BIG

You guys, I just watched the video once again.
The journalists says: Leonid is about to show his student ID for the Institute of Applied Mathematics in Kedysh."
For those who can't read Rusian, the ID does not say anything even close to the name of the Institute.
I don't know who this guy is, but the ID is 100% fake.

Only things to investigate at this point are the ID and those details. If we can prove he's a fake personality, not that the photos differ from one to the other, that'd be crazy. I don't think that's the case, though, but it's worth some checking into.

I find it odd the Linkedin for thsi institude has only private employees www.linkedin.com...

ID is real and nothing will happen. He is also telling the truth - he can be wrong and NASA can be wrong but they are not hiding anything.

Spacecraft info was aprils fools joke nothing more.

another yuri gargarin connection to elenin (he was born in same town that gargain lived in) and google actually did a logo about yuri (he's also tied to conspiracy

so is institude

"The Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences is a research institute specializing in computational mathematics. The institute is located in Moscow, Russia. It is named after Mstislav Keldysh. The institute was created in 1966 when it split from Steklov Institute of Mathematics. Already as the Department of Applied Mathematics of Steklov Institute it had conducted some outstanding research in the field of space exploration: in 1953 it developed the method of ballistic spacecraft descent, that was used on April 12, 1961 for Yuri Gagarin's return to the Earth, and in 1957 Sputnik 1 orbit was calculated there using the computer processing of optical observation data. "

"In 1953 the Institute was first proposed ballistic descent of a spacecraft from orbit to Earth and the possibility of its use in manned space flights. As a result of using this method spaceflight of Yuri Gagarin was completed a successful landing. In 1954, the Institute developed the first embodiment of the gravitational (passive) stabilization of an artificial satellite and a theory of such stabilization [72]. All of the above work was carried out first in the world."

Nomenklatura means nomenclature in Russian, so there's not anything out of the ordinary with it.

We need to get people inside of that Institute, Thats really the only way to get to the bottom of this.

I am almost certain a trip thier would yield some interesting information, Or a Gun pointed at my face by some Official Looking men.
