Very likely HAARP because their primary Very Low Frequency band is 1-30 Hertz-which is where the human brain operational synapse frequencies are.

Hm, I find it interesting how there are so many different explanations as to where the tinnitus comes from. But I think I might have a better more etheric explanation as to the source of the ringing.

I also am aware of that extremely high pitched sound that keeps getting mentioned, as I cannot sleep at night without some kind of noise in the background. It does not affect my hearing, as I have passed hearing tests and can hear great. I have had the ringing in my ears for as long as I remember, though I never made much of a fuss, as with the introduction of sound pretty much drowns it out and I cannot hear it. But it never goes away, even for a second.

Through my research, the sound is not produced by your ears, but your mind. During kundalini, and some common other meditations, the sound is often amplified, and quite pleasant as if fluctuates and changes pitch when concentrated on. It is essentially the "sound of God", or more accurately the energies that permeate all around us as spiritual beings. We can all hear this sound if we concentrate on it.

Here is a juicy link for all you hardcore ATSers!

Everyone can not only hear it, but you can actually slow down or increase the speed of the sounds with your mind.

Here's an ancient Tibetan Mantra you can hear in your mind after you have heard it enough times.

I have had tinnitus for about 2 years now. My tinnitus onset began when I was a bit to close to a mortar blast in Iraq and my ear drum perforated. Have had it ever since.

I usually sleep with the tv on and that seems to help.

I have done some research but it does not appear that there is any cure at this time.

TV itself produces such high pitch sound (not LCD) which I hate.

Haarp, celltowers, tv and radio towers, sun, stars? Maybe too much information from net, too much thinking, brain still in high beta range (--> headaches). No doubt it all has some effect. I'd like to spend some time in deep cave to hear if there is any difference. I really would. Or try some tin foil hat maybe.

Neuroprogrammer is still my favourite tool. It combines (white) noise with monaural/binaural beats and changes brainwaves. It also can harmonize left/right hemisphere etc.

Just for reference, TV horizontal oscillators run at 15625Hz (50Hz PAL system) or 15734Hz (60Hz NTSC system) and they're particularly audible in older CRT models because the windings on the EHT transformer providing the anode voltage have a tendency to 'sing' (they're a little loose in many designs). That tone used to disturb me to the point where I tended to avoid rooms with TVs but the combination of better low power designs, improved technology, and increasing age has fixed it for me. I recall life as it was before there was any television in this country

Well, not that I trust the pharmaceutical industry as far as I could throw 'em, but I just saw a commercial between weathermen for a new product called Quietus™.

For those who can't use fans for whatever reason, that might be an answer for you.

I just thought it was a little coincidental (perhaps a little amusing upon further reflection) that we were all talking about it so heavily lately, and then I just happen to hear the word "tinnitus" coming from the boob-tube.

I guess some of us are in the pharmacom industry eh? Wouldn't surprise me in the least...we seem to have everyone else.

Again, a word of warning tho...I don't know if it's really been tested, I don't know the side-effects, and I wouldn't really trust legal medicine with my life, but a condition such as this might warrant it, just to stave off a psychotic break, ya know.

Strange that it's so common, almost everyone I know has some form of this ringing too. I don't know for sure when mine started, I've noticed it at times in and out through my whole life. But I never really payed attention to it untill I went on anti-depressants, then I really noticed it. after a couple months, I quit the medication and I still notice the ringing whenever it's quiet/or if I think about it.

I am both truly shocked and saddened by the shear volume of ear ringing threads that are on ATS. Tinnitus is the huge time bomb that has now exploded. Since the invention of the walkman and now ipods kids have been subjecting their hearing to unsafe levels of noise for prolonged periods of time. Throw in over loud nightclubs and concert venues and pubs with in house bands that make your ears bleed, and not to mention the idiots you see and hear with their flashed up fiat panda with a boom box shaking the street ( I always wonder why they do that it cant sound good in the car and they must all be stone deaf by now). Then its no wonder we have and will continue to have reports of people with hearing damage causing tinnitus. We all know smoking is bad for you but where are the health warning concerning noise .

I do have a problem with tinnitus. Or at least I used to, it's not so bad anymore. I went to see two specialists about it. They told me that there are two kinds of tinnitus, I think, concerning whether the sound matches your pulse, among other things. I experience the sound only in my left ear and it does match my pulse, and I have learnt over time that diet and exercise play an enormous role.
I suggest that you see a professional to pinpoint the source of your particular tinnitus problem. If you're unhealthy (and you know if you are) you need to change your diet and lifestyle.
I also think that my dad experiences tinnitus from time to time but his is due to problems with industrial deafness.

I have had it for a little over 7 years, after awhile you will become less "sensitive" to it.
Mines due to the blood flow and neurological issues.

Treat your ears with care, don't use headphones and if you do use them at a reasonable level but even then in the beginning stages this will cause it to get worse as the silence after having them on will make you more sensitive to the sound.

Going to a concert? use ear plugs.

Stay away from these foods as they can trigger it/make it worse - red wine, cheese, and chocolate quinine/tonic water, high fat, high sodium/salts.
I've also noticed for myself red food dye makes this worse for me.

I also take zinc and vitamin B and eat foods very rich in these vitamins.

Co-enzyme Q10 - 300mg, it is vital in supporting the immune system and also helps with circulation to the ear.

Fresh Pineapple will reduce inflammation , also garlic there are some others I think like kelp? but I didn't really want to go there..They have a "potion" made out of a kelp gel? or something I don't know it smelled horrible.

There are drops they sell at your local pharmacy that may help.

I also got some little waterfall that makes the sound of rain, jungle, beach, also people will say a white noise maker helps but I find pink noise is more helpful, here's a link to a free download try them out and see if any of them help you and you can download it for you mp3 player - Simply Noise - Brown, White & Pink noise

Stay away from q-tips! they are not your friend, and after you shower make sure to dry towel your ears and get all the soap out.

Also if you notice severe headaches, eye strain, high blood pressure, fever, anything as an indicator as an infection - or serious illness do go see a doctor as they can cause this and sometimes infections can fester in your body for a VERY long time

But If it isn't anything major going to the Dr is kind of pointless as they can't really do anything for it.
Unless it's a abnormality in your ear or a tiny hole they can patch.

Anyway, I know it sucks and it's a pain in the arse but honestly try your HARDEST not to pay attention to it keep your mind as far away from as it as you can ( I use to want to kick people in the teeth for saying this to me as it's NOISE - CONSTANTLY - IN YOUR HEAD ) but honestly over the years the more I got use to it and knew the less I paid attention to it the less I noticed it.

And if you do ever get health coverage go to a neurologist and they should be able to give you an MRI of your ear canal, sinus's, and also a vascular MRI to make sure there's nothing funky going on or something that can be fix.

This is kinda jumbled so sorry if I'm of no help and good luck!

Almost always it is because your hearing is going or your almost deaf.
If you can't hear properly your body gets really messed up.
Loss of balance etc.......when you can't hear regular sounds/background noise......your brain is going to supply that for you and what your get is the sound of vacuume cleaner going non stop 24 hours a day.
Trust me on this as I am deaf or almost deaf.....get your hearing checked first thing.
Regards, Iwinder

I've been playing in bands for 20 years now and my tinnitus is starting to get pretty bad. Its constant and in both ears, louder in the right one, due to a cocky young drummer trying his best to impress people with his loud snare, as I always had him to my right during live shows.
If you are like me and have been exposed to high noise levels for extended periods then you may have to get used to that ringing. I recently had my ears tested and the doctor told me that my tinnitus will never go away.

I don't know if you'll find this helpful, but when the ringing starts to annoy me at times I try to take my mind off it and ignore it, if I let it get to me its almost like it gets louder, if I ignore it it seems to go away, well, not really, but when I am preoccupied I don't notice it at all, eg. I can really hear it now because I'm thinking about it.
I carry special molded earplugs with me all the time now.

Hey, what kind of earplugs have you been using? I used the foam kind for years and I don't think they did a whole lot to protect my ears. Before that I, like so many other people, I didn't think it would happen to me, and I didn't bother with protection, but when you start to notice the ringing its already too late, so they say, its more of a damage limitation thing now. I also noticed that my ears have become very sensitive to loud noise these last 3/4 years, I was chopping some wood recently, and I had to put the plugs in

I use molded attenuators now, they're rated up to 25db. They take a little getting used to, and they're not cheap, but I don't leave the house without them these days.
I keep telling some of the younger guys I play with to start using ear-protection, a few just laugh if off, like I did when I thought I knew everything, but when I do see a young musician put in a set of plugs I always think 'smart kid'.

I havent used them for quite a while, But they were designed for singing with them in.
they allowed certain decibles in to be able to keep your pitch.
If I can find them ( I put them somewhere at my last show but I currently dont know where)
They also were not that expensive, about $20.
I will look them up when I get some time.

On another topic related to this:
One of the said causes of Tinnitus was amalgam fillings,.
It was stated that amalgam fillings (of which are mercury laden) can cause your ears to ring.
Besides the most important reason for not having these fillings in your head is that mercury is the
most toxic substance next to uranium, they should have never been used as a filling for teeth.
Amalgam fillings are now illegal in most European countries.
Well I had all mine removed last week, so if it by chance helps curb the ringing,. well that will be
a great bonus. we shall see in a few months.
