Hi

I am amazed that teachers can sign on in the summer holidays.
My mum is a teacher in Britain and she cannot sign on for unemployment benefit in the holidays. No teacher can. Teachers are employed for the year in Britain, I am assuming then, it is different for the U.S. That seems like madness to me. I think teachers do one of the most important jobs in the world, but getting to sign on in the holidays seems crazy.

It is not my place to say how you guys run your country but I fully believe in the importance of unions and hope it goes well for them.

Cheers

you know for this being a conspiracy site , that is chalk full of very paranoid people i am kind of disapionted on noone calling this police thing a stunt. lemme explain.

what is easier sending 400 cops in a head to head clash to kick everyone out of the capitol or....... send 400 cops to pretend they are with the protesters mix in with them and then at a certain time kick everyone out?

not sayin it is going to happen that way but it is a possibility.

it's actually a damn good possibility.

who do you think these LEO protesters are gonna be punching, stomping and tasing when their cop buddies have been asked to take "stimulus control" of a group of rioting numbskulls?

So far, this fits the patterns of the protests in the middle east.

1) People get mad
2) People get organized online
3) People show up at some prominent public place
4) Leader oversteps bounds in some fashion
5) Police join the protesters

Now from here we can extrapolate what will likely happen based on what's occurred overseas.
1) Military/national guard will be called in.
2) Riots turn violent.
3) People get killed.
4) Dictator/leader flees country/state/province/etc
5) Overthrow.

OR
1) Military/national guard called in
2) Military maintains an uneasy truce between people for and people against.
3) Public/Political humiliation of leader ensues
4) Leader leaves country/state/province/etc
5) Overthrow.

Of course this isn't a revolution... yet; so they'll probably just do enough to shut these people up after the national guard are called in, then it'll be "Move along, nothing to see here." Unfortunately for the leaders of wisconsin and neighboring states the genie is out of the bottle now. People are beginning to realize mass protests work. And that means more of them happening more often. That can be a good or bad thing, depending on what happens and how it's responded to.

If off-duty police are joining the protest, who cares.

If on-duty police are joining the protest, they should be fired on the spot for dereliction of duty.

Any occupation that gets it's funding from the public by way of manditory taxes should NOT be allowed to be union.

They should NOT be allowed to hold the taxpayers hostage.

Grow up unions. The taxpayer funded gravy train has come to an end.

Get over it.

I too live in taxachusetts and have worked for the public sector, 5 years was enough thank you. The big issue here is the pensions... double dipping is an art form in massachusetts. Retire at 55 taking home 80k with health benefits and living in florida until your 95 is whats killing the states. The biggest abusers of this are the politicans themselves...

This isn't getting a lot of attention on MSM.

They are happy to report that security forces in Libya have switched sides, but their own demontrations of nearly 100,000 people with security forces switching sides barely gets a mention.

And they complain that the Governments of Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, and Iran aren't listening to their people?

I have to disagree. Don't forget that union members pay taxes also and as taxpayers they have the right of free men to gather and work for their own best interest however they see fit; anything less is Fascism controlled by the Government or as in the case in WI., Big Corporations thru the Koch bros. Get over it.

I find it a bit hypocritical that conservatives that harp on smaller govt, and freedom want to give government even more control over some taxpayers because they happen to want a say in their livelihood.

Coming from NJ I've heard it all and experienced first hand the outrage from both sides of the story.
I'm sort of surprised that no one is probing deeper to where all the big money goes to - the School Administrators. I remember a comment Christy made about some School Superintendents making
as much as him. Every state has public records showing salaries of Administration personnel as well
as teachers. I found Wisconsins salaries for 2010 and with fringe benefits its an eye opener. So before
turning this into teachers vs. union (which I'm sure is purposely "spinned" this way) take a look
at what those at the top of the pyramid make (and their assistants and assistant to the assistants make).

dpi.state.wi.us...

It only goes to further reinforce what we have been seeing more and more lately that the greed of those
in the top positions are sucker punching us for all its worth!

of course i understand how government works , why do you think i'm so pissed ! i know exactly what you are saying. my point is why do i have to pay for that stuff ? why do they get those perks on tax payer dollars? it seems very unfair. it's ok that a teacher in wi makes 60k for 180 days of work , all kinds of taxbreaks when they file , unemployment in the summer while they landscape and paint houses under the table , and the people of WI have to pay for their health and pensions? c'mon now

You are completely clueless. 180 days a year? You think teachers only work 6 months of a year? Have you or anyone here heard of a 6-month school year? Don't resort to lying like this, it only makes you look dumb.

For the record, no teacher collects unemployment when on summer break, in fact most work over break for their school districts, their pay is based on year-round employment.

The Pigs are just trying to protect their unreasonable legal protections against civilian oversight.

Non-Police:
Civilian does wrong, get's arrested, goes to jail until bail/trial.

Must pay for own defense.

Must also sue to get losses back if found not-guilty.

Police:
Cop does wrong gets instant high-price union lawyer representation. Paid for by tax-dollars.

Cop get's reviewed by superior. Get's off totally if superior says it's okay.

If not, then cop gets reviewed by Internal Affairs or similar sub-section, Gets off if IA says it's okay.

If not, then cop gets reviewed by local prosecutor. Gets off if Prosecutor says it's okay.

If not, then cop goes to trial (never jail time for the mob in blue) and gets paid for time off.
(yes, all of these steps are unconstitutional.)

Most trials will favor cops, because of their undeserved reputation, plus there is no such thing as a unbiased judge.
Judges ALWAYS favor cops, unless they simply can't find a legal-loophole to dismiss the charges on.

Prosecutor gets paid by the state, the Judge gets paid by the state.
Think about that...

Anyways, I hope these cops never get their unreasonable protections back.
In fact, I hope their next step is the reduce-pay line.

Reminds me of this incident.

Cops arrest "suspects", but the suspects are ALL wearing the same boots as the cops.

This wouldn't even be necessary if our government didn't have this "all or nothing" attitude. This country is in a cultural, innovative, and economy stagnation because whenever a person or organization wants something the government isn't willing to give, it throws a fit, instead of willing to make a deal, and makes legislation so a future compromise is then illegal.

It's not a separation of powers when the judicial branch, senate, and house of representatives seem to be working for corporate America (which violates the whole purpose of our free-economic system). While capitalism seems to hate the idea of government-intervention, it loves the idea of itself being a part of the government.

I hope this mess gets fixed. This has no easy solution, and both sides have valid points. It seems the government is the one that doesn't want to work it out.

Public sector unions represent about 6% of the work force. Why should the minority be allowed to hold the other 94%, who pay their salaries, hostage?

Ok, let me get this straight. It is a great thing if workers don't want to be held hostage by the company they work for by being forced to help pay for their benefits (like everyone else has to), but it is fascism if companies don't want to be raked over the coals?

I am the first one to admit that unions once had a role. But they long ago outlived that role.

To say we should keep funding unions is like saying we should continue to build the Model-T because we owe having modern cars to it.

Like I said, get over it.

another thing to look at is just how much of the pension fund money was lost in the housing scam, and what is being done to get that money back? Fraud has been found to be present in just about every phase of the scam, which seems to have led tp many of the pension funds in the country holding alot of securities that have no collateral backing them. which, if I understand right, can't legally exist.
Fannie and Freddie have forced the big banks to buy back these illegal securities.
Steps need to be taken to recoup the funds of these pension funds that were lost through this fraud also.

Yes maybe the benefits and pension plans of the gov't workers needs to be downscaled, but our many state and local gov'ts are also talking about closing schools, laying off people, closing down fire stations, stopping services.
If they are in such a crisis that they have to take these kinds of measures, they should be doing something to get the money that was scammed from them back also!!! Every little bit helps, and I got a feeling that we are talking about a big little bit here!

OK, let's play that game. It's called "free market practices" when corps. want to cut benefits, retirement, and healthcare so the stockholders can get a bump, but it's socialism and union thuggery, when the workers that actually do the work [taxpayers] complain and want a say in their livelihood.

When it happens to you; you will wish there was a union to represent you.

I'm a proud member of AFTRA/SAG and would have no retirement, healthcare or recourse if hurt on the job, if it weren't for my union. The productions companies refuse to pay anything for the people that are actually the productive ones.
