Unfortunately, the Democrats will win back the majority in 2012. Even though reducing union influence is a good thing, the Republicans chose the wrong time to tackle the issue. Out of all the damn things to do, attacking the unions at this point is stupidity. 2010 elections are starting to look like a hiccup.

I agree.

As much as I hate seeing all this weird activity from the GOP - attacking Planned Parenthood in the House and this state-to-state war against unions by the GOP Governors, with the 2010 wave being due solely to the DNC's failure to deliver jobs - I see the GOP shoving a gun in its mouth with all of this foolishness. They don't even have a single Presidential candidate yet. That entire political party is a corpse that just hasn't fallen over yet. The only constituency it has now is the wealthy elite, the ignorant and the Evangelicals. That'll never be more than pockets of Red State survival for the GOP going forward.

Here is the good news. All those seats won in 2010 do not expire until 2014.
These seats: elections.nytimes.com...

So, the only thing we have to worry about is the senate and presidency. As you have pointed out, the Republicans do not have a front runner. Regardless about who wins the presidency, the Republicans who won in 2010 will still be in office. If Obama wins in the next election, we can still keep him from doing damage.

So much for the populism of the Tea Party. That whole GOP carnival is over. You wouldn't see Tea Baggers camping out over a political premise - in the winter, no less. They show up with their costumes and Nazi signs, and lawn chairs (can't forget the lawn chairs), and then home again for Jay Leno and bed before midnight. Like a knitting club or seniors activity center that someone moved out of the rec center.

2012 is going to be a GOP bloodbath.

I live in wisconsin. I don't have a 80k a year job protected by a union. When I was a union carpenter I payed my dues and was a good union boy. When the new contruction industry dried up all over,my union did not help me and my family when I needed to work. they told me to stay on unemployment and ride it out. The folks that had payed into the union longer then I, still got to travel around in their large RV's because the unions took care of them. I see a large group of people that are union pure bloods trying to maintain a way of life that can't be maintined no more. These folks have stopped garbage services due to strikes and have halted a long list of things we need to survive because they want their cushy vactions and second homes in the north woods.

They need to realize that not all of us in wisconsin have it as good as they do. They are fighting for their cushy lives and that hunting cabin up north.and the wonderful large salarys they have enjoyed. We are broke here in wisconsin and even though gov walker is an idiot republican he may be right.

One major problem I have with public sector unions is the fact that the unions are contributing outrages amounts of money to the campaigns of democratic candidates and lawmakers. Why dont the unions give the extra money they receive from dues and give it back to the school districts in the form of books, paper, crayons, tissue, etc., so the teachers wouldn't have to spend some of their wages on these items and the children and parents wouldn't have to pimp candy and food and all the other forms of money generating schemes the school has our children performing throughout the year. Cant have that can we? In California our teachers send out lists to the parents for things needed in the classroom. Isn't our taxes supposed to pay for these things? We are expected to give, give, give while the unions just take, take, take. Sick of these union thugs. End public sector unions now.

It's quite hilarious to see you bashing on unions making donations to political campaigns; however; there was a peculair lack of outrage on ATS when corporations are now allowed to make unlimited donations to whomever they want under the Citizens United ruiling. Gotta love the union bashing and the blind eye being turned to billionaire businessmen like the Koch brothers who are directly influncing the Wisconsin situation. Please Ggle search "Walker prank phone call"--although objectivness for right wingers is fairly hard to grasp for many.

Good. At the rate these Bozos are ging, in 4 years time, the GOP will be completely destroyed as a viable party. They've only had the House for a couple months, and they've already destroyed their credibility in connection with the jobs issue that got most of them elected by the Independents who actually make the difference in all elections. I've never seen such a parade of ignorance in my life (over 50 years). The 1994 wave actually addressed the issue that got them elected, and did so immediately. This crew has no idea what they want to do about anything other than to repeat the same old crap that got them bounced in 2006.

All they need now is a couple gay House/Senate GOP letches to get caught preying on teenage pages, and it'll be just like old times again. The 2010 victories were a pox-laden blanket for the corporate GOP. Thank you Tea Party, for destroying the Republican Party for good. Your crazies were just the thing that America needed to finally finish off Wall Street's inside game in Washington.

You are joking, right? If anything that prank call proved that Koch has no control over Walker. He didn't go along with anything the impostor suggested. Several people showed how the article and thread title were a complete lie, but the supporters kept ignoring the evidence and sticking to the lies.

Don't you want a good life too? Why is it that Americans always act like lobsters piled up in a tank? When lobsters are in a tank, if one starts to climb out, the others will pull him back down and refuse to allow him to escape. Then they all end up in the pot, as if that's better somehow.

Improve your own life, don't destroy the chance that others like you might have at a decent life. Organizing with them and others like yourself is your only hope at the life you want and deserve. Corporate executives band against you, as do their political henchmen. You need to band together with others like yourself, and bring some power to bear against the forces that actively conspire against you.

Don't fight the only potential you have for your own future security. That's what the corporate cabal wants you to do. Divide and conquer. It's the oldest and most effective strategy of all.

But if you colletively bargain your wages and compensation too high?

Can't you collectively be fired?

Isn't that how it should work?

Why is it unfortunate, because it proves that Republicans didnt care one iota for the beliefs they campaigned on. What happened to small government? Or Jobs Jobs Jobs. Yeah the well is dry but is the well dry because of unions? No. Is it because of greedy banks and corporations? Yes. We gave welfare to the rich in the form of a ballout. And every move i have seen from the right (including governor Walker), so far was to give more tax breaks to businesses and corporations or to repeal what democrats have done. So yes they deserve to be voted out. Trickle down economics needs an overhaul.

The businesses we had to prop up on our backs are back to making profits why arent we? The only good bailout seemed to be the one for GM in which the public now has a 20 percent stake I think they almost made 5 billion this year. More deals should be done that way that way. Or We the people should be the bank, and we should be able to charge whoever we bailout interest we vote on. Just as a common man who recieves a bank loan. We got scammed now we sit here fighting for some scraps

I work in the private sector and we all seen the 1 construction worker working while the rest drink coffee but at the same time the unions are the reason the private sector even has the slim benefits it does to begin with. Are unions out of control nowadays? Yes. They should put more into their own benefits or take a lower salary. The grievance should be laid with the politicians who have been negotiating for public interest all these years. Deals have been struck. What is a man worth if not his word??!?! To take it a step further even after the deal has been reworked and accepted, thats not enough you want to destroy the common workers last line of defense in the process. Unions were created for a reason. They keep the beast at bay. Deregulation destroyed the economy once already dont let it happen again.

I have already posted videos of Trumka talking at conferences with European Socialists. His words are his own indictment. The problem is you just cannot accept that your Union gods are working for the NWO. He uses the words "Global Governance" which is UN code for One World Government. I am sorry it's an inconvenient truth, but I am getting sick and tired of people ranting about the NWO and then supporting the very people and organizations that are deeply involved. My posts with vids are already on this thread and I'm not going to repost it all. The vids are everywhere on Google.
What I might do though is find his addresses in plain text. Maybe that will have a bigger impact on people like you who don't respond to video.

A few points here.

1. Wisconsin was not broke, The Governor bankrupted them by passing laws benefiting millionaires and now taking it out on the average worker claiming it was their fault. Obvious lies... and this is going on everywhere right now.

2. Those of you that are hating on unions turn your angst towards the people making millions and billions a year not a measly 40/hr posted earlier... The rich bankrupt the average workers pay but don't stop giving themselves or their corneys billions a year in bonuses... and send those jobs overseas. The problem is not the union or worker.

3. The issue is not union pay, it is the right of the union to legal exist.

If the cops are not following an order to clear the capitol when they are told to, that is cause for dis-missile. We can not accept an officer that puts his own priority's above the safety of the people of the capitol. That is wrong. What would happen if an officer thought abortion was wrong so he decided that he wouldn't catch a abortion doctor's killer when he had the chance? He knows what is right and what is wrong! What is wrong is not following the law and disobeying orders. If this were a case of an officer being ordered to shoot an unarmed criminal you could make a case for disregarding a direct order. Clearing out a building does not rise to that level.

Yes, because NEW "tea party" candidates and republican / conservative candidates will absolutely destroy the democrat/statist/communist party in the 2012 election...just like they did in Nov 2010.

It's like a nightmare for the communist/progressive voter...it just keeps getting worse and worse.

Unions impose ineffeciency. Period. They ensure that members will earn more money and enjoy more benefits than they would in an open market. "Great!" you say. Indeed, it is good for them, but look at who pays the tab.

In the private sector, unions pass high cost onto their employer. Carpenters making $35 an hour. Electricians making $45 an hour. Time and a half. Double time. This costs companies money. This cost is passed onto each and every person who purchases something that required union labor.

In the public sector, unions pass high cost onto the government. This in turn either results in more borrowing (diluting the value of the dollar) or higher taxes. Either way, the public is harmed.

Well, why can't we all be in a union, then? That way, we ALL benefit from collective bargaining, rather than special interests. Of course, this becomes tricky. How much should lawyers make? Doctors? Engineers? This is precisely why command economies are doomed to failure: human arrogance. The idea that anyone is smart enough to decide these issues is laughable. It's like trying to precisely predict the weather 50 years out.

Let's be clear about this. Unions represent the greedy interests of their members. They are a special interest group like the NRA, NOW, etc. There's nothing wrong with that in and of itself, of course. We all do what's in our best interest. However, when it adversely affects my family, I take offense. In fact, you're basically entering into a state of war with me, and everyone else you expect to line your pockets.

Greed to protect your interests is one thing. But when your greed is backed by laws which have teeth .. laws which make it possible to impose sanctions on others .. then you're no better than the "greedy corporations" you loathe.

Those rallies are about one thing: protecting the interests of a small group of people at the expense of everyone else. Shameful.
