I often come up with words that stem from my other mother tongue, Italian, because I can't find an English word that fits. Then, when I search for the
translation, more often than not, I find the equivalent. My main goal is to find words that evoke emotion, but that also dovetail into the story/poem,
making for double entendres.
Yes, animals really face an existential problem during anomalous weather or celestial events. Even we humans get knocked for six with daylight saving
changes, let alone earthquakes, fog, sandstorms, etc. I once read that mussels open up at night even if there isn't a high enough tide to submerge
them; the theory is that they are reacting to the moon's gravity, rather than any other sensory input.
