Civility and Decorum are required for intelligent discourse.

So unintelligent discourse may be a free for all?

On the contrary, the T&C applies regardless. I'm merely pointing out that, when one lacks civility and decorum, one appears less than capable in another important aspect of good debate and discussion as well.

I admit to having been "scolded" a couple of times, and each time it was well deserved. ATS is the one site on which I spend any amount of time, and although it's tough at times, I will try extra hard to bite my tongue.
Since I'm using a keyboard to convey what I have to say, maybe it's my fingers I should bite down on! Anyway, I won't be on the site much longer, and just want to enjoy it while I can. Many thanks to yourself and all others involved in bringing this terrific site to us!

Alert the mods to any posts you believe breach T&C..
Maybe that's why you see some posts removed and others stay..
The mods can't possibly see them all..
Could be the "faces" you talk about simply know how to use the alert feature..
Try it, I assure you it does work..

Mod note: Please read the link in my previous post carefully, as it explains what to do, and what not to do, if you have a disagreement with a moderator. As noted at the top of each page in this forum, this is not a place to post complaints. Your post history and all actions taken regarding your account are visible to all staff members. The topic is civility and decorum, not your personal disputes with the staff. Further posts along these lines will be considered trolling.

I note a tendency by some mods to merely edit out abusive parts of posts and leave the rest intact..
No warnings or off topic post tag..

I think that would be fine if it was consistent but I don't see that it is..

Why are some members favored with this minimal action and not others??
To me it's all members treated like that or none...

It's hard to give a blanket answer to that.
For things like censor circumvention and abusive remarks, I'll usually edit and leave a mod note. But some mods don't use those mod notes. It's optional.
The tone of the post also plays a part in the severity of the mod action.

If it's a new member, a u2u is also in order so they know about the rule.
If it's several words or phrases throughout the post, it can and should be totally removed.
And, even though a post may look like it's only edited, members can still receive WARNS....you'll remember those red flags? Well, with the new version of ATS we lost the flags but not the warn that went with them. We still issue them when warranted.

Does that answer your question?

I am glad you posted this...I became a member of ATS around 3 weeks ago....and I have noticed quite a bit of rudeness these past few days...Some of it was directed at me....which (of course) I did not appreciate.

I know that people can have very strong opinions - beliefs and express themselves with politeness...a person can be very passionate about their beliefs without degrading someone else.

This world we live in is hard enough.....a lot is going on right now ..we can give each other moral support in these difficult times.

Kindness is a strength.....

So is it polite here to accuse someone of being a shill or disinformation agent? I just wondered if this was par for the board, or bad manners?

That would certainly be bad manners.

We do not encourage, actually the T&C Forbids ANY form of name calling towards other members. Productive debate can and will be done with civility and politness on ats
.
