Hot Wings you are wrong:

I was looking at a thread the other day which included some business stats. The all time membership of this site is over 200,000, this is about the same as the population of Portsmouth, UK. Quite large then...

In any particular group of that many people, you are bound to get some loonies and some murderers.

I personally find the majority of people on ATS to be quite intelligent, and although there is a wide variety of topics and the inevitable variations in quality, there is always something worth reading on here. Where ATS differs to most other sites is the way that the debate and banter is generally well though out and constructive, as a result of the culture of 'manners and decorum'.

Of course I am not talking about other conspiracy sites, I'm talking giants like some well known social networks. A story from the papers comes to mind regarding a recent beauty contest for babies on one of these site where some competitors were wishing death on other peoples babies. Why don't you send an email to Mark Zuckerberg or Brad Greenspan or Chris DeWolfe warning them about the perils of opening up a website to the wider public, not only as 'faced' by ATS, but also the prospect of phishing, stalking, cyber bullying, the list goes on...

I, and probably the majority of members, come here for intellectual debate and as a means to collaborate in outside the box thinking. I have profiles on MyFace as well, I generally find that unless my status contains small talk, little if any debate is generated at all.

To SO and the ATS staff - keep up the good work

So, Rufus the Bum, who displays the public image of a homeless degenerate allowing himself to be injured in exchange for spare change, decides to argue to me that he is an intellectual. Yes, promoting the exploitation of psychotic homeless people to the world is certainly a worthy and noble effort for a self-proclaimed intellectual.

Why don't I write to the other news agencies, you ask? Well, actually, I have. But mostly they delete the illogical rantings of the insane from their web sites. This is why they need not bother with pointless pleas for civility and decorum. Instead, they use a common internet policing practice called “Moderating”. They have designated people assigned to use common sense and basic intelligence to filter out the rantings of the insane. When posts like, “Lucid Dreaming” arrive on their sites they are promptly deleted. When someone says that their teacher is a lizard these moderators take action. Here however, these children are given their entire run of the asylum. Instead of washing off the degenerate filthy stains of their rantings off these walls with the cleanser of logic and reasoning, these lunatics are instead coddled and protected by the high and mighty lords of the establishment.

Now, when insane child needs attention and makes another new thread about their grandma being a lizard alien the reasoning people of the forum no longer have the will and determination to stand up and be counted. Instead of demanding proof and putting the child in his or her place, they will coddle and protect them. Instead of saying, “Where is your proof you needy charlatan?” They will instead say, “Wow that's an interesting dilemma, when did you first notice that she was an alien lizard?” And so, the insanity of the Asylum goes on unabated.

Oh the wheat will get separated from the chaff by the natural course of selection and page hits. Simply look for the pages with hundreds of posts and then you will find something interesting to read. But my time is limited. I cannot search forever for what is meaningful from what is the insane in hundreds upon hundreds of posts.

So, I would request, that at least a portion of the site, just one small area, be designated an invite only area. I would request that just one area, just one, be excluded form the rantings of the insane children constantly seeking attention.

Thank you.

I suppose you would be the judge, jury, and "executioner" of all "insane content" that would not be welcome in your hallowed hall of reason forum, correct?

Here's an idea, go register a domain name, design and launch a site, spend a few hundred thousand in marketing and branding and see how it works out for you. You never know, you might just build the perfect forum.

I said to demand proof of wild claims is what I said. I said allow those who make illogical rantings to defend their claims from others. Do you not see why manners and decorum are falling apart on your site? It is not because people have harsh detractors, it is because people are allowed to make wild accusations, conjecture, and insane statements without any moderation. But I will not bark up this tree anymore. You know exactly of what I speak, but you will do little to stem the tide of the illogical and the insane because you care more about advertising generation than site integrity.

I have spent a year and a half’s income working on building my own business Springer. But it is a media company and hopefully news company, not a wall for the rantings of lunatics. All the big expenditures are made, Adobe software, cameras, lens, backdrops, lights, microphones, computers, ect. I am now ready to start gathering my sources and yes, creating a site. When it is ready I will post it. For now, I will post in my photo area the preliminary design, for Rick Allen Media.

I dunno. Sort of have a soft spot for insane children, seeing as I once was once.

In the majority of cases (and we've seen gazillions over the years), civility and kindness seem to do a lot more to get people involved than do ridicule and banishment.

Does this also apply to the lunatic fringe who feel the need to be freemasons who force thier nonsensical ideals and rules on the rest of us?

Good luck with that. I would also remind you that promoting a competing site on ATS is a violation of our Terms and Conditions. Please don't get yourself banned (although I have to agree with your fellow members who wonder why you keep coming back) by doing that.

I think you'll find that a specialized "media" site like you are building will find a limited but robust audience. You are limiting yourself with your proclaimed requirements however.

In any case, best of luck with it.

That's twice that I have noticed that you have some sort of problem with lucid dreaming . Might I assume that you consider lucid dreaming to be non-existent ?

If that's your opinion , you are entitled to it . However , I happen to know from personal experience that it is indeed real , as I have experienced it .

And , just in case you are wondering , I am a full-grown man , retired , with grandchildren , with an above-average education and degrees to back it up . I am not some kid who is enthralled by anything and everything that excites the senses and emotions .

I cannot prove to you that lucid dreaming is real . On the other hand , you will never convince me that it isn't .

I think the site owners have a pretty good handle on what they are doing with this site . If you disagree , maybe there are other sites that are more to your taste .

Good luck with your endeavor .

Its a metaphor for those working for minimum wage, doing back breaking work, ironically like the elite looking down...

Why don't I write to the other news agencies, you ask?

No, I said PUBLIC web sites like social networks such as myface...

But mostly they delete the illogical rantings of the insane from their web sites.

www.facebook.com/home.php says different...

This is why they need not bother with pointless pleas for civility and decorum.

Yes, thats why I cited such uncivilised activity as cyber-bullying and stalking in my post...

Instead, they use a common internet policing practice called “Moderating”.

Well the social networks such as myface cetainly don't seem to...

They have designated people assigned to use common sense and basic intelligence to filter out the rantings of the insane. When posts like, “Lucid Dreaming” arrive on their sites they are promptly deleted. When someone says that their teacher is a lizard these moderators take action.

Yes, of course - its OK to open your social network homepage to see a video of someone snorting a three foot long line of coc aine from the bonnet of an old ford escort though? Of course, your argument to this would be that it is the minority... As it is on ATS...

Here however, these children are given their entire run of the asylum. Instead of washing off the degenerate filthy stains of their rantings off these walls with the cleanser of logic and reasoning, these lunatics are instead coddled and protected by the high and mighty lords of the establishment.

You didn't go to high school then?

Now, when insane child needs attention and makes another new thread about their grandma being a lizard alien the reasoning people of the forum no longer have the will and determination to stand up and be counted. And evidently you read ATS less than you attended class...

Go somewhere else then, Springer doesn't force you to use your precious time here...

And how does THIS point sound Hot Wings?

If Springer and the Three Amigos really wanted to line their pockets, they COULD allow such degenerate behaviour as what I cited above, see, I am quite young and HAVE seen pictures of degeneracy on both of my social networks because I am that sort of age!

In fact by barring such behaviour and having such tight rules such as those on civility and decorum, they are actually making sacrifices for the benefit of people such as me and you, because they COULD make more advertising money if they let every tom dick and harry on here, but they DO care about their members! And THATS why I LOVE ATS... I might not post that much here, but I read it religiously every day I can get online!

I'm sure that nearly every member here has their own personal ideas on what could make ATS better. Does that mean that everybody should go elsewhere, or just those who's ideas do not mesh with yours?

Hot-Wings, how dare you ask for proof from those who make ridiculous and unsubstantiated claims...! They are the bread and butter of ATS! Without them we would not have anything to laugh at over our morning toast and coffee... I sympathise with your cause but I fear it will fall on deaf ears on here my friend...

I am afraid as with many things, "ignorance" is in the eye of the beholder.

Still, I feel we ATSers, each in our own way, are climbing to the light, as it were.
