I tend to agree. Is that one reason why you are a Christian? And I am being serious. No offense intended. Is Christ sort of like your good luck charm and shining armor to ward these "consciousnesses" away.

Despite how much people think ourselves to be medieval barbarian vikings, if humans were able to travel among the stars right now, I believe we would be very peaceful with any civilizations we encounter. I disagree that aliens would destroy us for the sake of some minerals that could be found elsewhere and in larger amounts.

~~Begin Quote~~
Not enough people consider the fact that we are clearly living on a farm.
~~End Quote~~

Don't you mean not enough people consider your opinion that we are possibly living on a farm?

I think not enough people give mother nature credit for what she creates

There is a small chance that we are on somewhat of a "farm" more of a biological safe haven/testing grounds, but even if we were too bad so sad for us.

This always gets me thinking about aliens discussing, like we are, about if there is other life.
On a more realistic note, if I were able to travel about in the universe, I would do it for exploration. Seeing all the other wonders, and life would be my inspiration.

What resources does Earth have that they would need? I'm sure they're beyond burning fossil fuels, and using slaves. They probably have a much more advanced form of the solar panel or something, but all this is of course thinking with my little human mind.

Initially I thought, what a stupid and idiotic statement to make...

but then I thought,

Hey, if we're so prepare to 'pre-assume' that something we havent even met or spoken to yet is out to kill us..

then yeah.. id hate the human race and want them destroyed too.

JC, we havent even introduced ourselves yet and we're all ready looking to make enemies.

this race is pretty pathetic sometimes...

I think Conway Morris paints too sure/stark a picture... there is still a healthy debate over whether advanced/intelligent aliens would be peaceful, violent, or neutral.

Even if an alien race traveled to our solar system from millions of light-years away to harvest resources... I don't think Earth would look much more attractive than any of the other planets or celestial bodies here (especially in the asteroid belt). Besides liquid salt-water... which resources does Earth have in abundance that our solar neighbors either do not have or have very little of?

Violence driven people are the only ones who could believe this. if any amount of research is done and knowledge accumulated (which any powerful, advanced alien society must have), no violence would ever be condoned. anybody with enough logic or spiritual experience knows that there is no advancing without appreciation and love for anything that is living. NO intelligent race of extraterrestrials would ever want to harm us: in fact, theyre probably waiting till we come to this realization before revealing themselves. If we're attacked by aliens, its an old staged socialist conspiracy meant to unify people against an imaginary enemy under fear. This would also allow governors to convince the people of anything and exploit them to no end

no one can argue with this simple truth with valid arguments

I hate when people get all up and mad when someone says "Aliens probably aren't kind", stop treating them like gods, you can't evolve out of violence, you can't evolve out of war. Other species on our planet go to freaking war chimps, wolves, hornets, bees. Hell, Kangaroos train their entire lives to conquer the competition and lead a group.
Life in this universe is a eat or be eaten universe.
Aliens can evolve out of having finite resources, or food, water, population, metals, energy, land, shelter, ect...

There are ways to know what an alien race might want based on universal laws of thermodynamics. No race will expend the money or energy to travel vast distances simply to obtain resources they could acquire so much more easily in their own solar systems. This includes all minerals, water, organic chemicals, even petroleum. The only thing we have on this world that might be of value is a functioning ecosystem and billions of DNA codes for all it's life forms. So, how to you ship these little treasures? You send autonomous probes to sample and sequence the genetic codes for all these organisms and digitally transmit the information to the homeworld where they are resynthesized and used to restore their own depleted ecosystems. That's it. No need to invade us or destroy us-it makes no sense economically or thermodynamically.

So you all can put your pointy metal hats back on and stop planning to run for the hills. They may be here, but not likely in person and certainlythey have no interest in interacting with us; maybe take a sample of us, but thats about it.

What? (i ask again for the sake of drama, ha
WHAT? Are you just trying to be facetious?

Humans can't even be peaceful and friendly and get along with the other species on their own stinking planet. They kill them with their automobiles. They kill them to excite their blood thirsty taste buds. They turn other species into clothing, shoes, belts, apolstery. You humans use other species for science and medical experiments. You chase them from their homes and drive them into extinction. You pollute their habitats. You .. .. oh my gawd, i'm sorry, but I can't finish this, humans make me sick and want to puke. Humans kill and destroy everything. I pray their kind never escape Earth .. in fact, I pray for their extinction, the Earth and all her other inhabitants would certainly be better off without humans, and I'm pretty sure it's a safe bet the same holds true for this galaxy and this particular universe too.

Humans ARE the violent space alien MONSTERS! And they have proven this true, time and time again. The rest of the universe needs to beware of y'all, ha. Seriously. Humans exist on the dark side of the force.

If you can traverse the stars within a single life span you don't need galactic resources, you would use e.g Antimatter or ZPE zero point energy for instance, they are created or collected naturally ....Thunderstorms Antimatter thread......
I believe the Greys get the brunt of the scare mongering btw film and media, why is that? Kinda gives me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach when I think of it..........They may be the good guys.
It s human thinking as we know to be aggressive and we better not extend that thinking as we progress into the stars, else our growth may be put back until we learn to know better. (6 Civilisations later) just an idea.....

I see alot of people saying aliens would be friendly or not war like because their race would be much older and would have progressed through the stages of self destruction. What if this wasn't the case, what if another alien race accidently crashed on their planet and this young not yet mature race reversed engineered it and went on rampage across the galexy.

You can't progress through self destruction, this planet has supposedly been around what 4 billion years? And not one of the species who have supposedly evolved over millions and millions, upon millions, and yes more millions of years and none not one has become peace loving. If you can't progress through aggression when given 256 million years of evolution, your not going to do it through technology. Especially since technology has led to more death and destruction then without.

We're so restricted by our notions of life- What it is, how it feels like, what do living things look like, etc...

What makes you think an alien would consume the same resources as us?

What makes you think it'd even be able to notice us, or we'll be able to notice it?

What makes you think it'd be 'alive' in the same way we're alive?

All of this, of course, aside from the fact that a race advanced enough to travel the starts would probably not be worries about resources so this whole thing is absurd.

Thats absurd. How do do you power a craft that can travel the stars, thats called a resource.
We can travel to our moon and back. We can send robots to our outer planets. We have satelittes, and guess what we are more destructive then ever. What makes you think more satelittes, and more missions to jupiter or mars or venus is going to change that?
Technology does not change the soul, it doesn't change your nature.

Well, we're just doing a little bit of speculation. No harm in that.

I love that. Thank you.

Yes I have really enjoyed reading all of the comments; even the ones I dont see eye to eye on.
