I am totally amazed that even with all we have in common which is what brought us all here from every corner of the earth in the first place, that we can't put all of the childish name calling threads away. We are ALL in deep sh*t like it or not and you would think a small community of like-minded individuals could ban together to discuss the things we all hold dear like adults without all of the trolling for fights.
Personally I think the administration should ban threads that instigate fighting and name calling. Furthermore they should ban the members who start the threads.
I guess our little biosphere is proof that we as a race are doomed. If we can't even get along to discuss the worlds problems there is absolutely no way we will ever see the day they are solved.

Any one else sick of this???

This should be in rant.

All of these silly "my country rocks, yours sucks, etc" threads should be in rant overall...typically they are pointless nonsense nationalism or anti-nationalism...basically typing practice for the intellectually challenged.

but hey, its better than watching television.

As the saying goes: You hurt those you care about the most...

I used jump in every thread I came across that tore into north america, especially the ones that were quite redundant. north americans deserve abuse - as a lot bull sh!t has happened on our watch.

But it seems to have become a trend rather than righteous words...and the ones shouting the loudest are usually the dimmest bulbs in the room.

So don't fret SOG...no harm is being done, unless you let your ego get in the way.

People come here to voice their grievances and engage in debate.

Debate and name-calling is how civilized people resolve their differences.

Violence is how the uncivilized resolve their differences.

We dont hate you.. we just feel bad for you.. your government is a sham and you really think you guys can make a difference? your leaders wont let that happen.. they're may be more of you then there is of them but they have the money and the power. if were ripping on America where ripping on your leaders... and maybe the stupid blind Americans that would never be on this forum.

I guess this is on topic

Here is an acoustic video I did, last year, about CANADA vs USA =)

Don't take it to heart!

I think you Americans dont really respond very well to criticism. It's fair enough you have spent your lives as the top dogs of the world and cant quite understand why anyone could possibly have any dislike for your country. Maybe coming to a global forum like ATS exposes you to the animosity that exists in many parts of the world towards you countries foreign policies.

i think that not every thread is meant to be "bashing" a particular country. sometimes it can be healthy to see what others around the world interpretation of your country is.

here is a link to a thread that i started a couple of weeks ago. if you read it, it may go in someway to explain the light in which your country is seen at the moment.

I'd be more inclined to agree with your OP if you hadn't specified just "America" bashing. The fact is that everything under the sun gets bashed around here (The Internet in general and ATS). I've seen Islam, Obama, Republican, Democrat, gay, fat, rich, poor, liberal, conservative, Olberman, Beck, Palin, Stewart, believer, skeptic, time traveler, alien, science, debunker, Christian, animal, carnivore, omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, communist, socialist, libertarian, Tea Party, moderate, avatar, music, movie, and TV bashing here as well. And that is just a partial list.

And, yes, I've done my fair share of some or most of the above at one time or another.

The point is that, when we are confronted with those who jump in, fists (or words) swinging wildly - we have but four choices:

1) We can ignore them, and silently abet their behavior.
2) We can lash back at them - thus fueling their behavior.
3) We can post threads like this - enforcing their behavior by letting them know that they get under our skins.
4) We can chip away at their blind ignorance, with fact and patience, and, hopefully, one day, get them to come to possess and enlightened position. Then, if they still hate us - at least they are doing so for valid reasons and not just in some misguided or uneducated paroxysm of verbage.

this might be easier...here is the context of my thread.

**** This is in no way a thread bashing the U.S of A.......its merely a thread on how i think the perception of this country in the eyes of those from elswhere has changed. i would be interested to see if others from other countries agree ****************

I would be interested to hear from other people in regards to the fact that i think the U.S has lost its "mojo". I can remember as a child we grew up worshipping anything american. If you met an american it was like wow.
We admired everything "u.s". Their t.v shows, their cars, their patriotism, their sport, their leaders and when they spoke, the world listened.

im now 43 and i think in the last say 6 years, the allure of all things "american" has been badly tarnished. i dont think that the world looks to the u.s with rose coloured glasses anymore. when a star came out to australia years ago all the australian t.v shows would climb over each other to interview them and crowds gathered where ever they went. now its just like here comes another twit, who gets paid mega money for doing whatever the paid advisers whisper in their ear because they are too dumb to think for themselves. its not only celebrities, its the whole "hollier than thou" attitude of the polititions, business people, stars and any movers and shakers from their.

in my humble opinion, i think this can be put down to a few people and a few events. The whole world listened when george bush told us that the baddies had weapons of mass destruction. this proved to be not true. i dont blame them for thinking that they had them, but we all thought that america was smart enough and had the fbi and the cia and they were the best in the world at intelligence to know if it was true or not. hurricane katrina and those haunting images of people begging for food and water, then onto mundane things like that skanky paris hilton, brittany spears and lindsey lohan. even trying to take the secretary of state, hillary clinton, serious when you know what her husband was up to in the oval office while she was out prunning the roses in the famous rose garden.

It just seems to me that before, when the mighty u.s spoke, all other countries shut up and listened to a certain extent. now days its like you cant even get it right in your own country so how dare you try and tell the rest of us that you are in charge. its just like the rest of the world is the classroom, and the president is the teacher, and you have the naughty kids like iran, nth korea, the taliban in the classroom playing up and no matter how much the teacher threatens them to behave, its too late because they have lost the respect towards the teacher.

i for one hope and pray that america can get its act back together as i think we need a western world superpower to be the strongest, scariest boss. it doesnt go well for anyone if it looks like the lunatics are running the assylam.

Self righteous arrogance invariably attracts those that would point out that the emperor has no clothes.

Thats not bashing...

wish i could watch it at work..lol..

but it really proves my point that Americans just cant take the feedback.. a friend of mine went backpacking through EU and had a Canadian flag on his backpack and said they were treated like GOLD where ever they went. and they also heard of what the world thinks about America lol

Well some of that animosity isn't warranted., and I never spent my life feeling like I was above any person of any county, absolute opposite, I love the different cultures of the earth, maybe you have a distorted view of the average American.

As a matter of a fact it wasn't until I started reading and posting on forums that I realized these countries and peoples I loved and was fascinated with despised us, and that upset me.
