-Reversed restrictions on stem cell research - AND THIS IS GOOD? I wish you had been here when I was accused of not taking care of the "weakest link"... I would like to PROTECT the unborn.

-Appointed an assistant to the president for science and technology policy - He's the FIRST? The Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) is an office in the Executive Office of the President (EOP), established by Congress on May 11, 1976 with a broad mandate to advise the President on the effects of science and technology on domestic and international affairs.

-Created a foreclosure prevention fund for homeowners - Great, more people living in houses they can't afford.

-Extended and indexed the 2007 Alternative Minimum Tax patch Extended a Bush doctrine? Unoriginal.

-Expanded eligibility for State Children’s Health Insurance Fund (SCHIP) By raising taxes on smokers.

-Expanded funding to train primary care providers and public health practitioners Wow, he's gotta bunch of money that Obama guy!

-Directed military leaders to end war in Iraq Might wanna check; we're STILL in Iraq

-Sent two additional brigades to Afghanistan Only after General Petraeus sounded the alarm to the public that he waited 3 months for an answer

-As promised gave a speech at a major Islamic forum in the first 100 days of his administration Can't believe this needs saying, but... SO?!?

-Granted Americans unrestricted rights to visit family and send money to Cuba Yeah, Fidel's a HUGE fan of Obama's

-Restored funding for the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (Byrne/JAG) program The application period is now closed. FY 2010

You can bet your ass and everything you own (while you still have it) that if the democrats can survive the elections and retain their majority (little chance of that) they plan massive tax hikes... Much will be back door taxes that are passed along to consumers, and not just alcohol and tobacco, but costs that will find their way into the pockets of EVERY American, either through energy, healthcare and/or taxes on the "rich" which will simply cause the price of everything to go up!

Look, they had to borrow 37 cents on every dollar they've spent already, and they are still spending.. Deficit spending and plan to do more in the future... They have to pay for it at some point!

Get ready, because their debt is actually YOURS! and they know it!

Just have to find the appropriate ways to make you pay for it, and like it, and some of you actually will!

The American dream is having your own business. With this healthcare reform, you can quit your job and start a business of your own AND have healthcare. Because your healthcare is no longer tied to your job.

Yes, if you own your own business, under Obama Care, you WILL have insurance/pay a fine/or go to jail.

Now, someone is not thinking clearly if they think just "owning" your own business will bring in enough spendable income to buy insurance. It is known that most small businesses fail during the first 3 years.

Generally the problem that hurts the most are the taxes a small business with employees must pay and the regulations and laws they must follow. Consider.. if you do own a small business under Obama Care you most likely will not only have to pay for your own insurance but your employees as well.

All of the above is very general, but I wanted to point out the fallacy of "just quitting your job and starting your own business" is not likely to turn out as well as the poster believes.

I don’t have any bubble to bust because I think Obamas health care is wimpy and a give away to the health insurance companies. I wanted a single payer or at least a public option like ALL CIVILIZED COUNTRIES HAVE IN THE WORLD.

But of course America is not civilized

I ask again to all the people damning Obama for tax increases (if he does so): HOW ARE WE TO PAY FOR THE TEN YEAR WAR WE'VE BEEN IN? That war, I don't care what the numbers say, will cost twice of the healthcare bill. But we don't have you guys up in arms over that, over killing people for WMD which were never found. But you're ready to hood up and go get Obama for actually having the balls, which no other president has had, to try and help the American people. What's wrong with that picture? Look at yourself and say, "I have no problem going into debt to war with Iraq, but I'll be darn if I go into debt helping my self and my fellow American".

We're partially in this jam because Dem's and Repub's have made the American citizens forget that what you buy must eventually be paid for. Everything this country has done for the past at least 30 years needs to be paid for. The way our country pays for these things is through taxes!

Yes, that's right, add two plus two together. You've been programmed to think we can actually avoid taxes being raised, when in actuality ANYTHING the government does will require taxes. Things that you liked and things you haven't.

If we knew this, we wouldn't have allowed Bush Jr. to drag us into Iraq. Our taxes were guaranteed to raise the second we deployed there.

Then you get to the issue of who is being taxed. Put it this way, most of you fighting for the Right to be rich (who aren't rich) are like the domestic violence victim who fights the police when they come to take the offender away. The silly victim is yelling things like, "He/She has the Right to hit me, leave him/her alone!"

Warren Buffet, you know that really rich guy, practically laughed in your faces. He said that in comparison, his secretary making $85K per year, paid a larger percent of her income in taxes than him.

Ladies and gentleman, that is where the money problem in this country is originating at. All the wealth in this country has been hoarded and hidden overseas. We have people with more money than any of us can imagine! These people even if they were taxed at 90% would STILL be filthy rich.

But here's where it erks many of you, the issue of "that person can be as rich as they wonna and don't anything to anyone" which isn't totally true, you have to take into account WHY someone is rich. In order to have made it rich, that person founded a innovation most likely, that people wanted a piece of. To become wealthy they had to partake of the public's money. Going deeper, in order to bring that dream to fruition, that person needed help from people/the public to produce their innovation. Bill Gates couldn't build all the computers in homes himself. He needed help in the form of employees to assist him in achieving his dream.

People we are being beaten over the heads and telling the authorities to leave us alone because the perp has a right to beat us over the head.

The very first tax hike Obama signed into law
Did you notice it was to benefit illegal aliens also?
www.smokersnews.com...

February 9, 2009 Obama Signs Federal Cigarette Tax Hike President Barak Obama signed the Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009, providing a major expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to provide health insurance to moderate-income families and illegal aliens. This government handout is funded with an increased federal tobacco tax. * Increase U.S. Federal Tax on a pack of cigarettes from $0.39 to $1.01 per pack * Increase Federal tax on pipe tobacco from $1.0969 per pound to $2.83 per pound * Increase Federal tax on RYO tobacco from $1.0969 per pound to $24.78 per pound * Increase Federal tax on cigarette papers (50 or less) from $0.0122 to $0.0315 * Federal tax on cigarette tubes (50 or less) = $0.0244 - New rate is $0.0630

From the article:

Faced with evidence that people were more likely to save than spend the tax rebate checks they received during the Bush administration, the Obama administration decided to take a different tack: it arranged for less tax money to be withheld from people’s paychecks.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but since the rebate began under Bush, and Obama continued the rebate (in a different form), I don't see how Obama lowered any taxes.

He just didn't raise them.

Seems the NY Times is trying to give credit where credit isn't due.

I may be incorrect here, but I don't think that the tax rebates were taxable income. However, I don't believe that the tax rates were lowered when the payroll tax deductions were. So, the tax became due with the tax return. President Obama did not continue the tax rebate (in a different form). He did not lower taxes.

Well, yes again you are correct Obama follower.

That is if you consider being unemployed his way of "lowering" our taxes.

Tell your propaganda to the 40 million Americans on food stamps.

Or to the children still in diapers, considering his "mis"administration has put them in the hole for another 3 Trillion dollars.

It will be 6 t o7 Trillion before his incompetent and corrupt idiots are out of there.

Wait and see what the American public thinks of the "Demon-rats" after the 2nd of November.

Yup. How about we take into consideration how this administration has destroyed value of our currency by printing money like crazy which has eroded our purchasing power, the fact that the healthcare premiums are going up on a quarterly basis due to the rubbish health care legislation.

We also might consider that due to the incompetent handling of the economy, folks are sitting on their couch because companys are in a holding pattern and they can't get a job.

the proof is in the paycheck.
supporting a family of 5 on 28,000 annualy, without changing my withholdings information, my federal deduction went from almost $200 every 2 weeks to under $80.
I was concerned, so i went to the IRS office and asked...they said it's right. If you're lower income with dependents, you'll notice it. Income tax return went UP.

not that I'm supporting Obama, but still....
