Solar flares another thought, and maybe more valid:
A magnetic coil gets warm when under stress. Why not assume the same for the earth? A solar flare puts stress on the earth magnetic field. It could heat the earth core that creates the earth magnetic field. That heat might create more unrest in same...
Just a thought... I picked it up somewhere on the internet. where? dono any more

Reports of a crack in a dam in China after 6.9 quake...Three Gorges Dam?
BBC RADIO ON, REPORTING FROM CHINESE CENTRAL TELEVISION A CRACK HAS APPEARED IN A DAM FOR A MAJOR RESOVOIR THERE

Can someone confirm this?
Apparently Three Gorges Dam has a crack after the 6.9 quake of today. If collapsing could threaten Millions. There is a famous prophecy that gives June 15 2010 as the date of the collapse.

Maybe Mother Earth (Gaia) is sick of the insects (humans) crawling all over her, digging into her, blowing up sections of her, causing all her sickeness & is saying enough is enough. Time for a good old cleansing.

Hi All,

Forgive me if this is not in the right thread, but as I am currently in China, I thought I'd give you the latest news update, that states that the death toll has jumped to 10,000 !!!

That news came to my SMS only 10 minutes ago (10.40pm, April 14, Beijing Time).

From the film of the disaster areas, thus so far released, it looks like the number of deaths will be revised upwards.

Regards,
Matt

He's got it wrong apparantly the death toll is currently 400 with 10,000 injured

thenextreporter.com...

According to the reports, over 10,000 people were injured and rescue workers are still struggling to dig through the rubble hoping to find more survivors.

Still quite sad that so many have been injured/died

Some good news just in on CNN - 1,000 pulled alive from a building in Jigan (sp?).

Unfortunately, also said 10,000 estimated injured, around 500 dead.

PreScript: Just for those who don't know me - I am currently residing in China - and have done for almost six years. The news source that I quoted above came from my Chinese SMS carrier - China Telecom.

Unless my Chinese is worse than I thought, the news wire came through China Telecom - via SMS - and stated clearly that the number of deaths totalled 10,000.

So discotech - if that is your real name ;-) - you seem supremely confident that I "got it wrong". Can you let us know where you sourced your info to the contrary? I'm not necessarily going to fight you tooth and nail over this one, as "10,000" seems to be a conveniently rounded figure.

I had this double checked by my native Chinese friend, as my Chinese is poor at best. I should also point out, I don't trust Chinese news sources as a general rule. But I can say that the carrier - China Telecom - has a fairly decent standing in China.

Nevertheless, they've been wrong before, and I would be particularly happy in this case to stand corrected.

I gave you a link in my post showing where I sourced my information.

Here's another link though which states that the 10,000 figure is injured and not dead (death toll currently is just around 600 unfortunately)

www.telegraph.co.uk...

I can't find any article which hints to the death toll at 10,000 like you're claiming, they all state around the 600 figure thus far
I'm sure the figure will rise as time drags on and people buried under collapsed structures will not be rescued in time but I doubt it will ever reach 10,000

Definitely the right thread Matt.

Please do try and confirm your source. I too had read that locally they were saying there were a lot more deaths than had been reported.

Here in the news:
Yushu Population 100,000
85% of the houses destroyed
I got the feeling it is impossible in the moment to realy tell how high the death toll has been.
But I think there well may be just 600 confirmed death. That people fear a death toll to rise up to 10000 it might be, lets hope not, but the few pictures were devastating.

I think the building codes in that area seem to need a revision, compared to for example Chile.
