If it's not above a 7, is it really worth reporting here?

On average the planet experiences a 6.0-6.9 quake every three days. The planet has an average of 1,300 5.0-5.9 quakes a year, that's over 4 each day! And those who are posting about 4.x quakes, you are really going to get tired of typing, as there are usually 13,000 of those a year!

Just wanted to give you a little perspective. Truth over fear. Logic above sensationalism. Deny ignorance.

Well, Hello Missletow - your eyes match your name. Just need some red berries to go along - maybe the corners. Let's see - why bother - well, you know - lots of folks post here from all around this great big world of ours. We get lots of information from different places for different agency's all over this great big rocking world - and - we post - to bring it to the folks that can not access this data readily. So, we are trying to be like a one stop shopping so to speak. In addition, did you know that a number of these agency's rely on the public to pinpoint and report quakes? Yes, that is right - they rely on us. So why should we only post above 7.0? - why did you give that number - for damage reports? - We are not here just to report damage. I would imagine, and I am not sure, but I think people may watch our thread to see what is going on - Even I as a searcher, pull up this thread prior to my data bases - we have a check and balance kinda system going.

And for any of you that are not member and watch our Quake Watch Thread please become one so you can post, or if you are Members and have not posted. We or at least I would love to heard of shaking reports in your area - especially, if you are not seeing a quake that could have caused it posted here.

Thank you for visiting our thread and have a good day.

EDIT : for Some - SPELLing

That would be great if this thread was made up of first hand accounts, but this seems to be a collection of data taken from the very sources YOU are claiming to inform! That kind of circular logic is lost on me, sorry. I mean no offense here at all, post what ya like, but it just seems to serve no real purpose as anyone can get this info from a more reputable source. Are there people in the world who have access to ATS, but not to earthquake.usgs.gov? I understand your need to defend your reasoning for posting here, but your explanations just aren't making much sense to me.

Oh well, back to your aftershocks already in progress.

Actually being aware earlier can prepare you for a big one, and possibly help other people on ATS prepare. It's good to be knowledgeable, but you ahve to control your fear with it.

Hey Missletow,

Why don't you read some back posts here.. There are people here who have instrumentation that tells them when a quake is happening before USGS sees it. Who do you think reported Haiti and Chile waaay before mainstream news aired it?

Sending a sinkhole your way,

regards,
bgal

Appears - you like it to - USGS is not the only reporting agency's here - before you go on - maybe you should check our extensive links. Then please come back and play nice - it's all good!

Why does reporting/observing/discussing earthquakes = fear???

No-one on this thread is fearful - perhaps a bit obsessed with earthquakes (well, I am
) - but not fearful. In fact, it appears from reading other "quake" threads on ATS that we're perhaps the ones LEAST afraid - because we are informed and know that there are gazillions of quakes each year. In fact, you'll find many of us telling others on other threads that, for instance, the no. of aftershocks is normal or that xxx place is active so "no worries".

Some people get excited about storms (actually, I do!), some get excited about solar flares, some even get excited by translating the Bible into conspiracy codes - we just like earthquakes. I don't think anyone here is purporting this thread to be anything but a collection of seismo-surfers and others who are interested in what Mother Nature is up to.

I also felt we were coming under attack - but I think that's because many don't seem to grasp it's called Quake WATCH not "Quake Predictions", "Unusual Quakes of the World" or "It's Coming Straight For Us.. RUN....".

As for not belonging on ATS (as per poster on other thread we've been attacked on) we are providing background information for anyone who wants to start a thread on a quake-based conspiracy theory - we just don't discuss them in this thread.

Just my 0.02cents (that's NZ Dollars - worth more...
)

As other's have already stated, this is somewhat of an earthquake clique here on ATS, and we tend to deny ignorance ourselve's amongst ourselves, so no need to dumb us down, if we need that we are quite capable, of handling it, as well as the various earth groaning's that take place, which we will be well aware of, while you and the rest of the uninformed are still making coffee, or doing the ol' nine to five, so to speak... nuf said, now back to the game at hand

I have been reading your thread for the last few weeks and you all do a great job. You even reported the Iranian earthquake that some of the official sites missed.

I know that ATS is a conspiracy site, but this is an informational thread......just the facts. I love it! Keep up the good work!
