Second strain of flu may complicate picture-study

WASHINGTON, May 6 (Reuters) - A second strain of influenza, one of the seasonal strains, may have mutated and may be complicating the picture in Mexico, Canadian researchers reported on Wednesday.

So the real time to look out as to whether this first wave is severe is in the next 3 or 4 weeks. This takes into consideration secondary infections and the incubation period - after all the child who died was infected and then died 20 days later.

I had to go to the clinic here in town yesterday (non-flu related) which is located at the hospital. Oddly, it was quite empty. That place is usually so full you have to wait hours to be seen.
Anyways, I get in and my husband waits till the nurse is in my face with the thermometer and jokes "Yeah, she just has been feeling terrible ever since we got back from Mexico". That leads the nurse to say it is all about politics. It's one big, huge political move and the low death count in a city as big a Mexico City leaves us with nothing to worry about. I bit my tongue.

When the Dr lady makes her way in, my husband shares the joke he made with her nurse and she thought it was hilarious and then went on to also state it was all about politics.
Based on info from my neighbor lady who works at the hospital (administrative) they are all attending meetings everyday about this flu virus and are updated constantly. Everyone I have encountered that works medical in my town has the same attitude towards this flu...

Is this attitude being shared by all the hospitals in the US or just in my smallish town? In addition to testing for H1N1 being overwhelmed with samples, this might also explain low count?

I don't know, this is all really a lot to think about and I can't decide which way to go with it. Keep the masks handy or sell them to some sucker?

OT - I have been reading ATS forever and reading this thread from it's conception and I want y'all to know what a great job everyone is doing. Keep the information flowing!

Listening to yesterday's WHO briefing, Fukado talked of it taking months rather than weeks to beging getting a handle on any patterns in the victims, so there won't be any answers to those questions for some time yet

Swine flu is same strain in Canada and Mexico

May 6, 2009

Canadian scientists who sequenced Canadian and Mexican samples of the swine flu virus say it is the same strain, even though the virus seems to cause more severe symptoms in Mexico.

Scientists at Health Canada's National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg genetically sequenced and compared samples of the H1N1 flu virus from Nova Scotia, Ontario and Mexico. It's the first time the sequence has been completed on samples from Mexico and Canada, said officials during a news conference in Ottawa Wednesday.

The results have ruled out a mutation to explain why the Mexican cases have been much more severe than elsewhere, said Dr. Frank Plummer, the chief science adviser of the national lab.

"Essentially, what it appears to suggest, is that there is nothing at the genetic level that differentiates this virus that we got from Mexico and those from Nova Scotia and Ontario, that explains apparent differences in disease severity between Mexico and Canada and the United States," said Plummer.

"That's one of the big questions that everybody's been asking, so part of the answer is that it's likely not the virus itself that is explaining the differential and severity of disease between Mexico and the rest of North America."

perhaps it is only more severe in mexico at the moment because they have had it for a lot longer, weeks and weeks instead of 1 week or so

Flu Protocol ~
Gwen Scott, N.D.‏

In light of the recent “swine” flu outbreak,
I have been asked to write a natural medicine flu protocol.
We are told that this “flu” is a “re-assortment flu.” That was certainly a new term for me after 30-years in health care. The CDC explained that four viruses came together somehow (human, two bird, and one pig strain) from different parts of the world to form this new “swine” flu. No matter how it came to be, it certainly is virulent and sometimes deadly.

I submit my best effort here for those who don’t want to take drugs (assuming they work at all.) At the first sign of a flu (sneezing, elevated temperature, muscle and joint aches, coughing, etc.) this is what I do. I spray my nose with colloidal silver (10ppm.) I do this often and continue until I am well. I also take colloidal silver internally. I find sipping as much as I can at the beginning often stops the process. I cannot, by law, prescribe amounts, but you can do a little research and decide on what level is good for you. I use 10ppm.

I have my own colloidal silver maker and suggest everyone make that investment. It is important that the maker “cooks” the silver properly (see July-August 2008 Nexus article “Stem Cells The Silver Connection www.nexusmagazine.com) because some of the low end machines don’t formulate the colloidal silver correctly. This was part of the “Blue Man’s” problem. I bought mine from SilverGen (1-877-745-8374) in Washington (model SG6-auto,) but you can search the Internet for others. It makes a quart at a time. You need a quart mason jar and distilled water. I always keep at least 10-15 quarts back stocked. At the current price in the health store for colloidal silver, the machine will pay for itself in a very short period of time.

How does the silver work? Scientists tell us, after close observation of live blood, that the silver particles are attracted to ALL single celled organisms. They go right for the nucleus and attach themselves. About thirty seconds later the organism dies. It is important to note that we have good bacteria in out mouths, gut, etc. so taking colloidal everyday, all the time is probably not a good idea. I was interested to hear on BBC radio that the British government was giving free “silver water” to their citizens during the outbreak.

-2-
This next remedy might not sound very high tech or exciting, but, believe me, it is powerful. I make a broth and freeze it. You will not feel like gathering the ingredients and cooking the broth when you are sick.

In a gallon of distilled water: (use organic vegetables if possible)
1.8-10-cloves of garlic, chopped
2. 2-3 yellow onions, chopped
3. 5-7 carrots, chopped
4. 5-7 stalks of celery
5. a handful of parsley
6. 2-3 inches of ginger root, chopped
7. cayenne pepper to toleration
8. sea salt or “real” salt
9. about a teaspoon of curry, more if you want it
I bring this broth to a boil, then simmer for about forty-five minutes.
I keep some of the broth with the solids and some I strain.
When you are really feeling poorly, the strained broth will be the best.
It will hydrate you and deliver essential medicines to your body. There are many healing components in this mix, too many to list. Garlic, alone, would take up a page.
As you begin to feel better and gain an appetite, the broth with the solids will continue the healing work.

I also take extra vitamin C, Echinacea extract, and an herbal combination by Herbs, Etc. called Deep Health.
Often the respiratory system is deeply compromised. For the nose, I spray the colloidal silver. Sometimes I irrigate with a mild sea salt dilution (Neti pot, or small blue bulb.) If my throat is raw, I gargle deeply with a one-to one mixture of hydrogen peroxide and warm water. A Georgia country doctor taught me this years ago and it still stands as the best sore throat therapy. Never gargle with straight peroxide as it may burn your tissue.

If the lungs are congested, tea tree oils inhales are very helpful. I put two-three drops in a mug, pour rapidly boiling water to the top, cup my hands around, sniff, then deeply inhale until all of the steam is gone. Pour the mixture down the drain…NEVER ingest tea tree oil. This therapy comes from Chief Two Trees, a great Cherokee medicine man.
Dr. Mike Castle also recommends using peppermint oil in the same manner. It works and isn’t as hard edged as the tea tree.

-3- If your fever is too high, a warm wash cloth placed along the spine can bring it down. However, virus can be killed by heat. It is the body’s natural response to any viral invasion, so a fever can actually assist the healing process if it isn’t too high for too long. White Willow Bark is aspirin in its original, natural form. It doesn’t produce the contraindications of the pharmaceutical copy. I take it for any aches and pains that accompany the “flu.”

Remember the old advice about drinking a lot of liquids…still holds true. I use the broth as much as I can, supplementing with natural ginger ale to settle the stomach and fruit juices (organic juices are far superior to conventional.)
If what we are told is true, that this “flu” will be back in the fall, then now is the time to organize your remedies.

Please note, there are other natural remedies out there that people use and swear by. By all means, do what works for you. This protocol is what I find works best for me and I hope it has given you some direction.

Sending Blessings and Good Health to all.

There is less media attention because people don't want to hear about it. They don't believe it, they think it is stupid, and think that anyone who believes it is stupid.

Of course, then a few people will die next winter that they know and they'll cry foul. What do you do?

Would't that be too much for a virus that is said to be no worse than common flu (from a serbian newspaper site in the web):

Australia decrees powers to quarantine swine flu victims
By Vasilije Gallak on Apr 29, 2009 in Featured, Health News

Sydney - Australians suspected of having swine flu could be forcibly detained under a new quarantine measure decreed by the government.

“It would also increase the powers of the chief health officer, who would have the ability to detain an infected person if they are putting others at risk,” New South Wales Health Minister John Della Bosca said in a statement Wednesday explaining the new powers.

“I must stress this is just precautionary - there is no suggestion we need these powers at this point in time, but we want to be able to respond quickly if the situation changes suddenly.”

Ninety-one people have been tested for swine flu in Australia, but there have been no confirmed cases.

The captains of aircraft arriving from the Americas are now obliged to report to quarantine officers any passengers they suspect of having any form of influenza. (dpa)

I've been reading this entire thread from about 10 days ago.

Here are my current opinions...

There is a partial US/UK coordinated news blackout regarding the deadly potential of a very rapidly spreading, mutating virus...

this just in from Reuters...

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A second strain of influenza, one of the seasonal strains, may have mutated and may be complicating the picture in Mexico, Canadian researchers reported on Wednesday.

They have found a strain of the H3N2 virus that appears to have made a shift and could have complicated the flu picture in Mexico, epicenter of an outbreak of a new strain of the H1N1 swine flu virus."

I think it would be logical if National Guard are in stand by readiness mode for whatever drama may happen in the next week to four weeks' time.

My gut feeling about the partial news blackout is that behind-the-scenes they are now formulating an information roll-out campaign that will be designed to cushion the blow when things get rough so as not to further panic the public. Governments are always worried about full scale panic. My sense is that a very well articulated and very carefully phased info roll-out will gradually condition the public as to how they want the public to react to increasing death rates in the coming months. I do strongly believe that they will manipulate the numbers so as not to alarm people.

They are right now admitting to 2 deaths in the USA (the toddler and the pregnant woman) and in both cases they very quickly add that "there were existing chronic health problems" in both cases so as to make the public believe that only the already weakened and already very sick cases will result in death.

As I have said before, I think they are putting out certain buzzwords like "mild" in order to keep the public (and most of the press), for now, in the dark. Most ATS members, I think, would agree that all major news outlets have been infiltrated by CIA and MI5/6 operatives for many years now and can easily be controlled by governments.

I went on a canned goods stock up run a week ago and may just go for another this week. Currently I have enough provisions to shelter in place at home for about 2 months providing the water taps, toilets, and electricity in my home continue to work without interruption and I don't think these utilities will be interrupted.

I have a hunch that a version of H1N1 swept through the USA around early March of this year. During that time, everyone in the office where I work was out for a few days (on a staggered timeline) with flu. What is coursing through the population now may be phase 2 of this thing and I for one do not believe that phase 1 gives anyone immunity because I think this has mutated and continues to mutate.

What I am feeling like is that what we are now seeing in the world is like if one were to pour gasoline in a room and pause a few minutes before tossing a match in, everything would seem to be O.K. but just damp and smelly. Toss the match in (reassort with bird flu) and bang... you're dead.

When I first heard of Egypt destroying all pigs I thought they were being silly, then someone brought up the fact that they have had numerous human bird flu cases in Egypt over the past year. Now I see that they are just trying to prevent any hop, skip and jump of virsus that could join together into a superbug.

has anyone posted this yet?

"Nonetheless, in general, we recommend that persons involved in activities where they could come in contact with large amounts of blood and secretions, such as those slaughtering/eviscerating pigs, wear appropriate protective equipment," he said.
