Now this will definitely come in handy. Hopefully this can help eliminate duplicate threads since we all know that different News sources use different headlines. I have too many times tried finding a thread with every keyword imaginable and still got beat to the story, sometimes after I made a thread because it was under a different headline. I will definitely use this!

Edit: Referring to the firehose.

That may be... but the title of the forum we're discussing here is
Breaking ALTERNATIVE News... and hence the focus on issues that relate to the topics discussed on ATS. There may often be a great deal of cross-over in contemporary politics, and it's up to the member submitting the story to clearly spell that out in their comments.

Why do we have to use the original source for news?

It doesn't matter if you like or dislike the original source of a story you're considering for submission... the source is the source. A respect for the creators of content has always been at the core of our linking and external-quoting policies... whether you agree with the source or not.

Now *that* will make it much easier for members to adhere to the new guidelines.

Simple solution, and very useful.

What if there are 1,000 original sources? Are you talking about not using blogs but using the source that came from the blog? I just want to make sure I'm clear about this.

Uh... may I ask how are we supposed to know what site created the story originally? I'm sorry if it seems like I am giving you a hard time but there are more than one sites that show the story at one time... what if it's really breaking news and it happens all at once on many sites? That's the thing I'm wondering about.

You'll find the clarity you need in the
opening post: This provides some much-needed clarification of what kinds of sources are allowed. Essentially any mainstream news web is a valid submission source. If you source a web site outside the "mainstream," it must be the original source -- the creator -- of the story you're submitting.
