In regards to that ship being repaired. My nanites are bio-tech kind of things which have the ability to grow living matter back onto the ship.

I was more worried about the mechanical instruments at the moment, which is currently being done.

I will wait for Antar though, perhaps me and her can work together with the healing process.

As for the Captain position, I am currently on the bridge with nobody but Myth, so for the time being I will assume the Navigator post if that's no problem with any of you guys.

I am always in contact with the Yydryl and she seems to trust me.

I don't want to mess with anybody's story line or anything, just trying to help.

Cool beans

By the by can you explain your nanitie things to a total sci-fi and techno nub? (That's me)

I'd love to hear how those things work.

Heya Silo.

Nanites are very tiny machines. By very tiny, I mean that big nanites are slightly smaller than a human blood cell. True nanites would be much smaller than that.

In theory, they would be designed to coordinate with each other and perform complex tasks, such as coordinating a swarm of nano machines to repair a section of the Yydryl's hull in this case. In Asher's case, it's cellular repair and reinforcement.

You can do some pretty cool stuff with nano machines. A lot of R&D is going into that as we speak.

Hope I answered your question. Of course tothetenth might mean something totally different, but that's what I assumed anyway.

Sure no problem.

I don't know if you've seen The Day The Earth Stood Still?

That movie had a huge bot which dis-integrated itself into flies which ate up everything, but could not be seen.

kind of the same idea, exept these look more like little spiders, virutally unseen to the untrained eye.

They are capable of creating matter by fusing organic substances, such as skin or dust or even human excrement, and mold it with technology to create virutually anything.

They bind together in long chains and work as a team, patching or creating, and then infuse themselves within the material as an active artificial intelligence entity.

They work by themselves but, I can control them at any whim. They can be used, as you can see in the thread, to create monitoring devices implanted directly below the skin, or to repair/create certain objects.

The one catch is I only have so many, and they need to return to me at some ponit, or my exo-suit will start to malfunction.

Myth please don't refer to crew being on past Earth, nobody knows that but the readers. Come on guys, your character do not know these things.

You really should not even know about the yydryl at all but its ok. I am bit annoyed. Please change reference to my where abouts, noone knows but Tenth, Silo and me.

Sorry.

Let me give an example. I know Silo wanted to go to Earth for plants but Cim does not know that, so Silo will have to tell me she wants that. I ask her to go to keep her out of danger.

Your character cannot know all you know, it screws up the story.

PEACE!

Hey slayer, I would love some actual pics of my own nanites, I don't know whos the resident photoshop master in here.

But it would be nice to have something to show people.

It's an easy enough design, I have it all thought out.

Really? I always give stars even outside the Opera, it makes people feel good and its such an easy thing to do. I sometimes Star and Flag someone just because I feel they made a sincere effort to communicate something.

On topic: I got nothing...I may get in trouble.

hahaha, I think we might be safe from the wrath of the mods on this one lol

But yeah, stars have to be earned for me I guess, or I just forget. I dunno, I have a ton of them, like 3000, so perhaps I am not being as nice as I should.

Thanks again for the Nanites Slayer, and I am still awaiting a response from my communication to you Cim.

Skeet pilots his craft into the bay of the Penelope. It has been a long flight from Earth to the Penelope, which has worn on him, but his orders were to join the crew as Chief Officer on a mission of dire circumstances.

He is a rather gruff looking man, standing 6'3, build of a war hardened soldier and a 5 o'clock shadow to match. He looks like hell, and feels like it to match.

Skeet takes no time in making his way to the bridge, Being as it is his first time on the starship Penelope. He sees it as absoluitely breath taking. A more spectacular sight than he could have imagined.
He enters the bridge and immediately addresses the captain with a salute.

Skeet: "Sir, Chief Officer Skeet, reporting for duty.

He hears a voice behind him tell him to stand down. At which he does with a relief.

It is the captain of the Penelope. He informs Skeet of the mission, of the problems, and tells him to retire to his quarters for a shower and a shave to look more like an Officer and not a grunt.

Skeet heads into his quarters and does just that. The warm water feels good on his muscles, aching from the long flight through hyperspace. HE gets out of the shower and beginning to shave can't help but notice what war has done to him.

He gazes into the mirror and looks at his war ravaged face. Being a young man of 28, he can already notice the wrinkles beginning to form at the corners of his brown eyes, his nose slightly crooked from being broken in many hand to hand battles with an enemy; his once charming good looks are long gone, the direct result of battle. But hey, at least he still has the chiseled jawline of a movie star, and his brown hair, while being short like a soldier's hair should be, is showing no signs of baldness. Which brings a slight smile to his face.

Skeet finishes getting ready, and puts his Officer's uniform on with honor. Then makes his way towards the bridge, pondering what is in store for him and the rest of the crew.

Being a Covert Ops specialist, he still has alot to prove to the crew before they will fully accept him. Being as they are very suspicious of his type.

Not bad, perty good.

Might want to add a bit about your appearance so people have something to work off of though.

The shaving and relaxing scene should provide the perfect cover, perhaps he gets a glance at himself in the mirror?

Just some thoughts.

Your response to me? I had just told your character I was leaving. I must have missed it. I can't get on to story thread from home. What is it that Aldiris (SP) wants?

Hey no problem let me know if you need anything else.
Side note I star everybody's post in the opera.
It makes people feel good.

You know what - you're right.

I can't stand belting out a freakin 9000 word post on here with the time and effort it takes to do so and end up getting like 2 stars.

Some days during the early part of this whole thing I was like, "Jesus. Am I really that bad of a writer that I don't even merit a few stars? How hard is it to click your mouse one time at the top of someone's post?

I give EVERYONE in the opera stars ALL the time. So - you can usually count on your first 1 or 2 stars being one from me.

OK so do I. I will be the first, 2nd or 3rd star lots of the time. We should all have at least 10 stars per post, unless they suck or piss me off because it screwed up my game plan.
Wait did I just write that out loud.
Do we have readers? I enjoy doing it rather or not anyone but us is reading it but I was just curious.

Come on everyone lets S each other some more.
Show some star love.
I do!

I am going to discuss some philosophical aspects of this in my thread one of these days.
My one and only thread.

I sometimes get delayed starring everybodys posts if I'm in a heated debate on some other threads. You know me I like to swim against the tide on some threads.

For example the last few days I came back and had to go back a few pages to catch up in the opera there were so many new people and posts.

Thanks for everyone's responding about the *wee little nanies*
Do I understand them?
Nope.
Do I want to?
Wellll...
Let’s just say I’m going to leave them along side the television in the partitions of my mind.
I dunno how they get all those little people in that flat screen on the wall but I stopped asking that question a long time ago.

As for stars - I agree CindyMars Sometime I toss them out just for the effort someone puts into a post - even if the content is a bit sketchy.

Stars here on the SO?
I don’t think there is any excuse for members of the Space Opera that don’t star another’s post.
You know first hand what it takes in effort, time and collaborative participation to keep the ball rolling here - if that doesn’t deserve a star then what does?

[CindyMars[ - Your last post had me in stitches - the cat and asking if cake is his food.
That post will live a long time in my hall of favorites.
Kind of reminds me of the ol Pink Panther joke - “Does your dog bite” - “No” - (dog bites) - “I thought you said your dog doesn’t bite” - “That’s not my dog”... hehehehe gets me every time...

Slayer - I dunno what to say other than if there was a *standing ovation* option to tag a thread you’d get it.
Your graphics add something to the Space Opera that is irreplaceable.
Your efforts do not go unnoticed.
With the quality of writing to back up the graphics, I for one and proud to be able to call myself a collaborative writer on the Space Opera if you’re an example of the company I keep here.
Thank you.
