If you want to know how earthquaks cause whales to strand see www.deafwhale.com...

Captain David Williams has been working on his earthquake theory for 25 years and scientists have been calling him stupid for the same lenght of time. Something strange going on here... me thinks the scientists are stupid, not the ole captain.

I wish I was as confident as you are about the US Navy being the dominant (hence culpable) Naval force responsible. I hate to scare you, but the US in not the only power with the ability to destroy all life on the planet. Oh yeah, the US has done more than it's share of damage. But, if the Chinese, North Korean, Russian and other's Navy/Military's thought the way you did, the intelligent mammals of the world would all be a lot safer, happier, less likely to commit suicide, etc..

Australia does not get earth quakes - no fault lines as it sits right in the middle of its own tectonic plates.

Beachings are confused sonar - look for navy operations, chinese, us subs etc.

So by your logic, the U.K doesn't get earthquakes either?

Do some research and you will find that we have had a few.

Unknown magnitude in Australia

www.thaindian.com...

Don't know how close the whale beaching, the OP may have a point

[edit]

Apparently it was a 4.7

www.news.com.au...

Someone has a thread on it here

The plot thickens, sort of.

The Premise of the OP was a BIG earthquake. A magnitude 4.7 is quite small.

If it is a precursor to something large or not we'll have to wait and see.

It couldn't hurt to pay more attention to whale and dolphin beachings though.

There have been three quakes around the Islands so far ...

How strange, listen to nature.

Although it wasn't major, I wonder what exactly dolphins and whales are picking up on underwater. Ultra-low frequency sounds generated by slight shifts of the crust is my guess...who knows, maybe they're responding to some other force that we haven't been able to detect yet.

Well, there went a quake in Australia. A significant one, at that.

I hope that the 4.7 isn't a building block for a large quake.

I think we are still in a window, for a bigger one, from the beachings. In Nov. they beached themselves one week before a big quake hit.

What is interesting, is there was a 5.2 above - line straight across Australia?

Yes, I do believe the beachings definitely have something to do with Earth movements, I am watching....... is something bigger in the works?

There is a thread currently going on the quake in Oz.

Where are you now audas?

Try researching something before you state something with no knowledge of what you're talking about.

Hi All.

Long time lurker here and finally decided to sign up and join in. Hope to enjoy some great discussions with you here on ATS. The reason I joined today is that I was reading this thread last night and was shocked to wake up this morning to see this..

www.news.com.au...

Looks like some of you may have been right. (Even though I do think a few of you are absolutely nuts)

Cheers,
