Yep, third is a decent target all things considered, and maybe a good cup run.

I know everyone gets injuries, but really, the amount we've had has been ridiculous and they have to be considered just because of the amount of them.

do you think any other team could cope with having a dozen or so first squad injuries? and not just peripheral players, but regular starters?

The wingers thing is a non starter to be fair - ever since his days as real madrid youth coach, Rafa has used his full backs to attack, with his wide midfield players tucking in, or cutting in as you put it - Yossi is more than capable of going to the byline, but is under instruction not to.
This was done with devastating effect at valencia, and we are now starting to see the same here.
It not only provides width, but gets attacking players in and around the box as well, and pulls the opposition out of shape - the opposition full back follows Kuyt/benny/riera inside leaving space for our fb to attack. If their midfielder tracks back, it leaves space in the centre.

The downside is that it has had a negative effect on our central defenders - carra in particular, as they get used to a new system.
It's only an adjustment of a few yards, but it has thrown the defense out of shape slightly, and led to some confusion over who should be doing what.
Again, injuries haven't helped and we haven't had 2 settled centre backs for any reasonable period of time this season.

Awesome news.

Maxi Rodriguez finally signs.

We have a quality, proven winger at last

Hopefully Reira will be fit soon too.... so that'll be One and a half good wingers

Joking.

Yossi has been brilliant too... really underrated in fact.

It's a great little signing, I'm made up. I reckon he could do us a job.

Let's just finish off Reading tonight hopefully with a big performance from Aquilani.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez snaps up Kenwyne Jones on loan to solve striker crisis

Liverpool will try to solve their striker crisis by signing Kenwyne Jones on loan on Monday.

The Sunderland forward is due at Anfield for a medical as manager Rafa Benitez desperately attempts to strengthen his squad for the visit of top-four contenders Tottenham on Wednesday.

I hope that's true.

We've been linked with him before though.

Just think.... if Rafa had kept just ONE of our strikers... we'd be a bit better off now

Yer I like KJ too, things go from bad to worse then eh.

Liverpool have won only five of their last 17 games in all competitions, a run that has seen them eliminated from the Carling Cup, FA Cup, Champions League and ended any realistic title ambition, with the Europa League now their only hope of honours.

I know mate.... it really does.

I knew this season was going to be tough.... we needed new players and just didn't get any.... well Glen Johnson, who's fantastic.... but we needed strikers and wingers/wide men...

Oh well.

Let's just hope we get some sort of European competition because the money that the owners have said will be available in the summer, wont attract the calibre of player we need if we're not in some sort of European competition.

Hopefully it's just a rut and we'll come out the other side all guns blazing.

How many corners have we turned this season? Too many and you go around in circles! Man, I hope this is the last 'corner' we turn and we can start going in the right direction....UP!

I'm not saying a word about 4th until May...my fricken nerves have had enough already. Silence and dignity...oh yeah.

A tottenham fan says

I reckon you could scrape fourth you know. I certainly don't think we'll do it.

Keane on the bench, and as useless as boobs on a bull when he came on.

Must be a man management thing - oh wait, 'Arry the crook is the manager, so it must be keanes fault.

Crouch not great, maybe they should sell him - after all, for us he got 42 in 134 games so he must be great, and it's all Rafa's fault

Gareth Bales horrible run continues to haunt him.

Great heart and determination from the lads tonight.

10 points from the last 12 - now we need to keep it going.

Well in Carra - skippers performance tonight. Not so much his play, but the way he kept on at the team, keeping them going.

Time for Carra to take the armband permanently?

Maybe, but we all know that Gerrard would throw a strop - Hyypia he ain't...

The big derby tomorrow, can't wait! I predict 2-1 to the home side, although with Everton having a few players returning from Africa and injury I think it's gonna be a close call.

Early Kick Off remember!
