Kit -- thank God you listened and left -- where were you in relation to Mizar and Lady Lily -- do you have any ideas knowing the area and knowing what they are saying on the news if they are underwater also.

Do you have family you are staying with now?

They mostly fled to the dome, or is that not were you are?

I like the pic of the taxi:

Slightly off topic. This marks the 3rd depression that has hit us here in Indiana this year. Right now we have rain and a pressure of 998mb or 29.47". We don't get pressure this low in the summer. If we get a pressure this low in the winter we are usually getting burried in snow.

That is interesting, thanks for sharing. I need to get one of those weather stations that has a computer interface so I can keep a better record of my local weather.

"Experts say the biggest and most immediate ripple you'll see is gas prices. Katrina crippled at least 90-percent of oil production in the gulf. At least eight refineries are closed, halting supplies at peak travel time. David Purcell, a Houston energy consultant, expects prices already at record highs will jump even higher over the next week. He says wholesale prices alone were up 19-cents a gallon as of Monday. “When you see increases in the NYMEX gasoline price, that's one-to-one, so you ought to see your retail prices move up 20 to 30 cents pretty quickly," says Purcell."

The Palace Casino in Biloxi is almost on its side, the bridges are heavily damaged in Biloxi. The Grand Casino which was on a barge in the water is now quite inland. Biloxi is absolutely devasted.

Hope Mizar is managing.

Edit: Ah, this is more accurate:

Jeff Parish President. Residents will probably be allowed back in town in a week, with identification only, but only to get essentials and clothing. You will then be asked to leave and not come back for one month.

FEMA numbers to begin assistance process 1-800-621-FEMA or www.fema.gov....

Hope too.
What about the Superdome? First they said there were 10.000 people in it, now 60.000. Maybe Mizar was taken there... They are surrounded by water, are they going to evacuate by air?

It is around 5 PM there, isn´t it? At what time is there no natural daylight?

From the random death toll figures being thrown out by different officials in the areas affected, it's going to be pretty high, I've already averaged about 700 dead right now, just from those officials guestimates.
This doesn't include any deaths that will come due to disease and failure medical care.

I was going to estimate around 1000 but it could definitely be higher.

Jefferson update on MSNBC

No power for 45 days
No Sewerage (no flushing toilets etc)
natural gas leaks
no potable drinking water
Snakes, vermin and more in the water.
Two Major roadways are still there for evacuations
East Jefferson Parish, hit worse than West Jefferson Parish.

Advising everyone still in Jefferson parish to evacuate, I hope Mizar and family have left by now.
