I posted yesterday that I'd been "unofficially" tipped the wink that we now had confirmed case in the UK.

The authorities arent saying where it is yet, I was told it's in York.

Time will tell.

I read an article this morning saying a man was staying at a York hotel and was transported to the hospital

www.dailymail.co.uk...

And witnesses claim to have seen medics in full quarantine uniform loading a man into an ambulance and taking him to a hospital in York. He was whisked into isolation from a budget hotel in the city.

I was told "it was one of the ones bening tested in York".

I wasn't aware there was more than 1 being tested there, but I was told there was 1 confirmed case.

Anyway it obviously has only just been released by the authorities - although I did say yesterday it's only a rumour, and since they still haven't said where it is in the UK what I was told yesterday still might not have been right.

It could just be a coincidence.

EDIT: I'm going to talk to the source shortly and try and get more info.

According to Al Jazeera,

Another 102,000 people were also reportedly under medical observation with possible symptoms of the respiratory ailment.

Okay rumour only - that these 2 were students at a university in London - if that's true, no wonder they're keeping it quiet.

To quote Morrisey - "There'll be panic on the streets of London"

The fact governments are scrambling to evacuate their citizens is giving me concern.

There's a massive risk bringing home plane loads of people.. why risk entire nations for the same of a few hundred who - if' we're believing what we're being told, are safe because China's handled this greatly (according to WHO) and they are confident in stopping it.

Does anyone use Weibo or Wechat? are there many people from Wuhan on there communicating?

I would be interested to hear if the lights are on in the majority of apartment buildings... or if they're much less than they were are the start of the quarantine

This is the problem when they won't say - I've seen rumours of London, Birmingham, Newcastle, Manchester and various others.

EDIT - you're right they're saying they are being treated at a specialist unit in Newcastle.

But we only have 4 in the UK that specialise in infectious diseases so it's conceivable they are not actually from Newcastle.

Not transferable to your animals. There are Chinese news releases telling people to not abandon their pets.

Hopefully, this will get them to stop throwing their cats off the balconies!!

If it’s more prevalent in Asians how does this work with people who are half Asian or have descendants who are Asian?

Wow, it might actually be more targeted than initially thought..

www.biorxiv.org...

Men are 3 times as likely to get it, and men have 4 times as many ACE2 expressers that give you #2019nCoV
Asians have 5 times as much as Africans/Europeans.

We also noticed that the only Asian donor (male) has a much higher ACE2-expressing cell ratio than white and African American donors (2.50% vs. 0.47% of all cells). This might explain the observation that the new Coronavirus pandemic and previous SARS-Cov pandemic are concentrated in the Asian area.

a number of responses at the end of the article show that the testing might not show accurate results in terms of Men or Asian, but still - its an interesting read.

Interesting...
So in simple words, if someone would want to "create" a virus that targets a specific racial group, it CAN be done!
Not saying this is the case, but the argument that it can't be done ( see posts from earlier this month) is no longer valid. I raised the question before if someone knew of none-Asian infected persons, so far I found none. Media is not giving that info. Especially the German cases I find interesting since it are all people working in the same company, but their identity is very much protected.
You would think that in this time of social media, sooner or later someone would spill the beans on what they know or heard?

Doesn't sound so bogus & dismissive now, does it?

I put forth the theory first, and took a LOT of s# about it from a particular moderator over it. The article certainly may not be a smoking gun, but absolutely lends credence to us being at that capability.
I think I'm owed a apology here for the crap treatment from said mod. Theorizing it's possible is NOT hiding behind "a flag or nationalism" or whatever the low jab of mockery was. Hint, hint, Burdman.

Are Caucasians only a third as likely to catch and pass on this virus then? That would make sense why it's such a slow burner outside of China...

I was "unofficially" told yesterday (before it was released to the media) there was a confirmed case in York.

The Newcastle hospital is the nearest specialist infectious disease unit to York.

"The four HCIDs are Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, and Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. "

It may be, and it would be nice to know one way or the other the status of other ethnicities. I think we really do need to be looking at this virus on a very deep genetic level to find out why it likes Chinese, or Asians in general, so damn much. There's a reason for this sticking to one group so firmly.

I still think the answer is in the haplogroups somewhere. Nothing beyond a hunch there on my part still, but this whole thing is rank as hell for it being January 31st and no ravaged foreign nations yet as previously predicted for the end of the month. This was supposed to spread like wildfire, and so far, the only wildfire is limited to one group. The foreign outliers are just that at this point -- outliers. Every situation tends to have them, it's the nature of statistics.

I'm pretty convinced it's possible!

Just did a quick google search on what they actually know about the Ace2 receptor. Now I'm not anywhere near educated in the medical field, but even I can understand that scientists know about this for a long time. What is described in the linked article isn't new. It isn't even 'spectacular' in scientific circles....The amount of ACE2 receptors a person has, is also responsible for Cardiac issues in Asian males and has been widely studied.

This kind of discussion came up with SARS and MERS as well.

The study involved only one Asian male. There would need to be another study with a much larger pool for a conclusive result.

Even if it's not being being experimented with/tested widely in the private sector, we know damn well this is not beyond the scope of government black projects, regardless of which country would do it. With all the gene editing we're able to do, and targeted genetic treatments being researched right now, this kind of weaponized medical stuff is far from a big next step to do.

well no....
The study is only saying that the one Asian donor they used, had an increased amount of ACE2 receptors, so it's only logical that this person got sick, because this coronavirus targets those receptors, Just like SARS did.

Increased amounts of ACE2 is a common thing in Asian males, but not in all of them.

Indeed, and it's almost like a breadcrumb being tossed out, isn't it? "It may be that..." but with just enough ambiguity to effectively dissuade.

They need to go whole hog on that theory and test as many as possible. It could end up being a bust, or it could be a critical turning point.
