1.5 degree rise in body temp would kill you, just like it would kill the earth!

It's a fact, our world will die. We are killing the planet.

Whoa...slow down there, it is an emphatic NO to both statements. The world/planet is not dying, nor are we killing it. What we are doing is weakening the environments of our habitats to support us comfortably. We are in effect #ting and peeing in our beds and luxuriating in it. Simply because we don't want our own personal levels and quality of lifestyle being reduced. Those of us who have it better than others do not care a jot for the suffering or the hardship that will befall our fellow human beings. We simply do not care! As long as it is happening to someone else, why bother, eh?

There will be those who will declare to anyone who will read or listen that they will accept the necessary changes as long it is proven beyond all doubt that the facts the climatologists are stating are true. To be honest, it's a get out clause so they don't have to accept anything, because they have no intention of doing so anyway. Absolutely none!

My wife is pregnant with our first and it's looking like it'll miss out on all the beauty in the world that I have experienced and all humans since the dawn of humanity. It pains me.

Yep. That's it in a nutshell. It sums it up nicely. If it's any consolation, your child won't be on its own, there'll be millions world-wide who will probably suffer equally. While you are thinking about your child, just spare a sympathetic thought for all those whose higher-quality lifestyles will be disrupted. It will probably be awful for them. Oh dear, I think I am tearing up just at the thought of it.

Bold strategy, cotton. Let's see if it pays off for him.

It's just ironic to me that so many people think it's okay to bash Americans, but say anything about Mexicans and it's "racist".

I'm not offended by either.

I'm actually not either. I just like calling people out for the hypocrisy.

They're just opinions.

Well, the Americans are crazy is possibly factual.

Something something God made me this way...

Look at that, my hands are now clean of it.

Yeah because there's no religious nuts outside America. Interesting "facts" you've got there.

I'm having a child because the world needs people who can save it. My child will learn the right ways and play a big part in saving this planet.

The planet doesn't need any saving.

Do you mean humanities ways of doing things and how we spend resources?

Yes, I can agree that we need to change our ways but the planet is no danger whatsoever.

It's obvious, look at the coral reefs, look at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, it will be gone in 10 years!

Guess what was said 10 years ago about the Great Barrier reef?

Why is the Great Barrier Reef that I live beside dying? why is it almost dead? why are all the fish that use to be in the ocean beside my house gone?

because of how unprotected it was over the decades with too much tourism.

that the one of the reasons given more than a decade ago saying it will die in a decade.

To at least acknowledge what is happening in front of our eyes. To hold governments, business and people accountable for their actions. I do not have the answers, I just see what is happening with my own two eyes.

Most have acknowledged that there is some sort of issue but what the actual issue is is debatable, its climate based but how much influence we as humans have on the climate is whats debated.

governments, business' and people are accountable for their actions, this is what we call Law and order in society.

Yes, many ways of getting around the laws so the issue is writing laws that cannot be circumvented by big business or government.

You see what has been presented to you.

I get your worries, I have them as well in a sense that we are not on the right path as a planetary society and are doing more harm than we are good.

We could all live like the pygmies in central Africa.... basically they hunt, gather, and DANCE. Oh, and get hunted by the Congolese because pygmy meat sells pretty well apparently.....

It's obvious, look at the coral reefs, look at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, it will be gone in 10 years! ocean plants produce up to 80% of the oxygen we breath and we are killing them all. I live beside the ocean, I've grown up on the ocean and it's dying!! It's changing. Rivers that feed the oceans are full of the sh** we spray on our farms and flush down our sinks and wash out of our factories. Things that have not been around for a long time. We are foolish to think we aren't changing the chemical balance.
Look how many god dam people live on this planet!! never has there been this many people on this planet.
Looks at the Amazon, look at the 730,000 square KM that we have chopped.
Looks at all the crap in your supermarkets, looks at all the plastic it's wrapped in!!!

Your new here, rt? Climate change, 911 and 2012 are all the same here.

Lots of catching up on this subject going back over 10-15 years on ATS. Nothing new here...

They have NO idea what is causing the Earth to warm. They have best guesses, plausible theories and models to show how they're right, but no hard facts that have proven.

Do we seem to be doing our best to destroy the planet? Yup. Are we? Who knows.

It could be part of the Earths cycle. The suns energy output has not increased but Mars and Pluto are heating up too. Pluto is heating up as it gets further from the sun!

I think it is arrogant to suggest that humans have a direct cause on the planet.

I wouldn't say it's arrogant. We can deduce that we do have an impact, it's just not known exactly how much.

We can take an invasive species and introduce it into an entirely new ecosystem and it will cause absolute havoc. This is pretty much humans. We started in a local area but migrated and evolved to such a degree that we rapidly took over the entire global ecosystem. How much of an impact we have made, or will make, is yet to be told though.

So you think Americans killed Australia's great barrier reef and all your fish? Id look close to home mate.

All i know is it was worse in the 70's we are much more aware, sure got lots more to do and we collectively should do. But earth will be here long after humanity isn't. And unless we go worldwide nukes , the planet will cleanse itself of

oh FFS - you opening claim is a flat out lie :

a temp increase of 1.5c will not kill you [ assuming a basal " starting " temp ]

and as for the planet - its not alive - so cannot die

further - look at the temp range of an average year - 1.5 fluctuations happen in a single day - some areas go from +20 to -5 in a 24 hour period

and repeat

just stop your pseudo science doom porn

I might disagree with you just a little here.

I do agree that we always "try" to bend the environment how we feel it should be, but, birds eating seeds and pooping hundreds of miles away and introducing new plants to an ecology has been happening for years. Tornados, tsunamis, hurricanes, etc, all are destructive and have introduced invasive species.
The only difference between them and us is that humans aren't capable of understanding that we are part of the environment as well and see anything we do to try to make it more habitable as destructive. Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don't.

Like I said, I don't completely disagree with what you said, just a different outlook.

Ever have a fever? My kid's temp rose to 102 and guess what happened? The fever broke and they were just fine. No, people don't die when temp rises 1.5 degrees....and the earth is a living being that knows how to care of itself.

Every climate forecast ever made has been incredibly wrong.

Gore swore NYC would be under water by now 15 yrs ago.

Climate change cannot be modeled. There are literally billions of variables. Anybody that tells you they can model it is a big fat liar. By the way notice the models have always been tilted to predict disaster - at the same time gore and his buddies are setting up carbon trading companies, and floating the idea for carbon taxes.

Now lets say you are right, and we are f'ng doomed if the temp goes up 2 degrees. What are we going to do about it? How does raising taxes do a damn thing?

We are already transitioning away from fossil fuels about as fast as we can. Solar is now actually economically viable and is becoming the number 1 choice for new electricity generation.

Technology is advancing and has already reduced our emissions greatly, and will continue to do so. Artificially trying to force adoption of tech that is not economically viable does not work.
