I am no expert in military or government goings on just a civil engineer who likes to keep tabs on all the crazy goings on involving the current us presidential nominations and conflicts in the middle east.

The recent goings on involving iraq, syria, nk nuke tests and russian air craft carriers passing by edinburgh here in scotland by some 100 miles (also from rosyth which no one has ever highlighted) actually is frightening!

If a us or russian plane is shot down in combat but not by mistake, what will actually happen?? Ifa war does start what is the first thing the US and Russia will do? What will American B2 stealth bombers do or even be? Will Russians subs just strike uk and us military sites simultaously?

Im not fear mongering, would just love someone with a sound sense of military knowledge to put it right - he read so much crap on here with people just posting pages full of links and stuff.

Shooting down an aircraft is not an automatic war starter. The Soviet Union shot down something like 40 or 50 Allied aircraft during the early years of the Cold War. None of them were by mistake either. They damaged quite a few more as well.

Afterwards, they talked, and eventually worked out a treaty for how intercepts were handled that's still largely in effect today, although some portions of it aren't observed as strictly as they were.

only aircraft carrier the russians have is so unreliable, it has a tug escorting it.

its just posturing by putin

in 22 days they gonna increase sanctions on russia

putin thinks sailing 6 ships is gonna change that lol

russia is bankrupt in 6 months

There might or might not be a war. I believe it's all rattling but I could be wrong.
I think Russia wants Trump so they could be happy with a celebrity as a president, which will lower America's reputation as a superpower.
Putin knows that if this happens, America's allies will lose respect to America and therefore become the first superpower.

So u think in 6 months it will all just be fine n dandy and talked over between the us n russia? I hope so. Its just scarry how that aircraft carrier passing the english channel braught about so much attention and fear mongering. It did look cringworthy how slow it went and the tugs etc but surely it was a stunt by the Russians?

If that carrier passed by during the cold war would anything different have happened?

Einstein was once asked if he knew how ww3 would be. He said that he didn´t knew how ww3 would be fought but ww4 would be with cubs and stones.

This phrase sums up very well why there will never be a ww3, because it would be the end of civilisation, of at least, most of it.

The germans still carry the stigma of ww2, the americans still carry the stigma of dropping 2 A-bombs over Japanese cities.

I think that is either Russia, China or the US throws a H-bomb on a city they will never be forgiven by the rest of mankind.

Look at the fear mongering every time a Russian plane flies near the US or UK on a routine intelligence gathering mission. You'd think they were on the verge of shooting the way the media plays it up.

Do I think it will be fine and dandy? No. But I also don't think we're going to be a smoking crater either.

Nope. The´ve just made a deal with OPEC to cut the oil production, oil prices will be at 70-80 usd in no time, natural gas prices will also increase and russian is the largest exporte of natural gas in the world. In fact, the whole Syria war is about a pipeline that both the russians and the americans want to build. The russians want one route and origin, the americans and the gulf states want another.

Why do you think the gulf states and the US are sponsoring ISIS, and the russians are defending Assad?

This OPEC deal is a very interesting event. if we think about it doesn´t makes any sense keeping the production levels high for so long with the oil prices dropping. Why would the producers want something like this? And why now russia and OPEC deciding to cut production?

I bet US, Russia and China have around 100 nuke subs hidden around in the ocean..
I bet those a going to start a ww3 and end it also.

The trigger to ww3 could be a faulty computer or a evil AI.
I wont and dont belive any human in power would start it.. unless you are some crazy person from NK
But I wont think a NK strike would start ww3.. it would only ensure NK would be flatten down by China and SK

I see in your post that you state you are CE.
So statics and dynamics would be no stranger to you.
I was going to post a couple of .pdfs that break it down to the nitty gritty.
But decided against it simply because of the large number of unknown variables.

But there is one known variable.
Never in human history, has there been so many stupid people with access to the most powerful military arsenals ever to exist.
And sure as hell, human nature will kick in, as it always does
And things will NOT go as planned.

It is at that point, that there will be a high probability of a cascade effect of mistakes to follow.
And God or Karma or plain ole luck will be the only things in control.

Even the D-Wave Quantums are saying "What's that question again ?? "

Did you see the state of those Russian ships?

They looked like they will sink on there own without anyone haveing to fire a shot at it!

I was more worried about there floating junk sinking in the channel and creating a shipping hazard.

The Kuznetsov has been like that almost from build. More often than not they've cut deployments short because of mechanical problems.

We used to have an occasional Tu-154 VIP transport come in. Some of their practices had us standing on the ramp with our jaws hanging open. Our SOP for hot brakes after taxi was to have a fire truck stationed near the aircraft, monitor the temperature and watch for fire, while restricting access until they cooled.

They came in one day, and had warm brakes, and asked for a fire truck because they wanted to hose them down and cool them.

They might do that on the way back. That carrier produces serious smoke. It would fail European emissions standards, that's for sure.

This whole 'English Channel infringement' business is propaganda.

Russia announced ages ago that it was sending naval reinforcements to the Syrian conflict zone. The convoy that passed through the Channel consisted of seven ships, of which only the Kuznetsov has been singled out for media attention. And it was seen passing Norway on its way here a week or two ago. There is no shorter naval route of suitable depth from Russia to the Mediterranean.

This isn't some perilous provocation, it was completely scheduled, it took place outside British waters, and the only reason it has been inflated into some scary encounter with an aggressive Russia is because it suits NATO to make it seem like sabre-rattling. Not least because the US establishment is dead set on creating the impression that Trump is a threat to National Security, which is why they keep trying to link him to Putin.

Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia and Poland before Britain and France decalred war. So is the invaision of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria a threat to Russia and/or China.

I see another world war as a certainty. US wants war to escape economical collapse.

It's not NATO it's the media. The media frequently does this with intelligence flights. They never violate airspace, but when you read the media articles you'd think they were on the verge of shooting at each other at any second and these flights never happen.
