Unclear. Some are saying its an air launched ballistic missile. Others are suggesting a boost glide. Still others are saying a hypersonic airbreather.

I wonder if the USAF has provided upgrades to the Aggressor/Test F-117s, post retirement.

There have been a few changes, but it's not obvious what they're for.

I know this is not the correct thread - so apologies first and foremost - but I didn't want to start a thread based on a simple question - and I know you guys are the people to ask questions such as these.

When a US Navy Aircraft Carrier is due scheduled maintenance and/or upgrades (which can take a long time in some instances), what happens to the squadrons that are based on that carrier?

Are they re-deployed elsewhere? Kept on an airfield?

Your guys collective knowledge would help me greatly in answering this question, in regards to something I am looking at.

Thanks,
Pigs

The aircraft all fly off before the carrier returns to port, whether it's going in for maintenance or not. The aircraft come from all over, usually west coast units to west coast carriers, but I've seen a few go cross country to get to a ship. A day or two before the reach port all the aircraft leave the ship and return to their bases. They all undergo qualifications and exercises before they go to sea again when the ship is ready.

KC-46 F-18 certification.

We used to fly our helicopters from Jacksonville Florida to Norfolk Virginia before deployment. Some squadrons flew from Whidbey Island Washington to Norfolk. Several years ago all of the HS Squadrons were moved to North Island in San Diego, so now they have to fly across the country to get to the East Coast carriers.
