to placate a few builders and some grannies up north....

Wash your mouth out sir ... we are talking Custard Creams and Borbouns ... damn southerners lol

I am from Nottinghamshire.

Southern fairy to the northerners and a Northern monkey to the southerners.

I don't even like biscuits all that much either.

it has been over a decade since I was last there but it is not Duck but "MiDuck" as in my duck. Also flower, petal and darling are common phrases to be heard.

Many years ago my Dad was accused of sexual harassment on the telephone to the electric company because he kept calling the girl on the other end of the phone darling and petal.

Sorry, but cookies aren't biscuits.

They just aren't.

They aren't.

Never will be.

Never were.

They just aren't the same.

Ever.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO................

Thank you for the kind offer but we have plenty of "cookies" what we nearly had was a "biscuit" shortage.

We speak the same language but are very different peoples.

We eat Rich Tea, Chocolate Digestives, Bourbons, Custard creams.

Hob nobs.....

That is not an insult by the way it's a type of biscuit and thank you for your offer.

It is a genuine story well documented online from news sites.
The factory producing mega-loads of those biscuits for the UK market was closed until fixed after recent flood damage.
Said biscuits were/are scarce on shelves and the consumers who enjoy them want them.
Someone/business sees a wholesale deal that can make a profit above the cost of shipping them, and has probably agreed a wholesale price before chartering the plane, so it sounds good business sense to me.

That plane would have been carrying something else that day, business is business.

...now if taxes had subsidised that plane my thoughts would be different, but they didn't, so it's just someone thinking of a quick earner and I imagine pulling it off.

I was going by what your thread title said cookie shortage!
Please remember that I am an American and my idea of
cookies is not your idea of cookies.

Please don't misunderstand our sense of humour as an insult. It really is just a bit of a joke (the cookie/biscuit thing)

I gratefully accept your chocolate chip offer. Tea cannot be safely taken without solid nourishment.

Yes I understand and that is why I thanked you

We in the UK understand the difference between cookies and biscuits better I think than you guys do.

If there was a "Cookie crisis" and we sent you a load of "rich tea biscuits" you be be saying "WTF IS THIS????????" "THIS IS NOT A COOKIE??? WHAT THE HECK EVEN IS THIS DRY PIECE OF CRAP THING???? IT TASTES OF NOTHING....NOTHING......" "WHADAYA MEAN I HAVE TO PUT IT IN MILKY SUGARY TEA FIRST ARE YOU GUYS CRAZY????"

So again thank you for your kind offer but we need biscuits not cookies

Oh, my dear British friends, if only we in America had known about your crisis, I'm sure that my President would have started up something like the WW2 Lend-Lease program! Of course, we probably could not have found enough biscuits in America and would have had to invade Canada to round out a shipment. Nonetheless, in the future, do make us aware of any shortages, so we might offer help..... unless it would involve invading Canada.

They're all in my cupboard.

Biscuits, cookies, shortbread, wafers, all manner of crackers and those funny little French things whose name I can't pronounce.

I suspected we would once eat ourselves out of house and home, I just never expected it to affect the entire country.

Biscuits are not an easy bake like the US comparative "cookie"

Although simplistic in recipe they often require a double bake and either a filling or topping.

This is not a simple Victoria sponge we are talking about here.

For our American friends, cookies are larger and have a softer consistency, biscuits are smaller and a bit more solid.
I don't eat cookies because they come from places like Star*ucks and I'm a taxpayer so...

Peek Freens Trotsky assortment for the win!

'Biscuit' is a french word meaning baked twice, what the British army, in the first world war, called 'hard tack' and in WW 2 mostly in the western desert campaigns.
