In order to stop it, we need to stop mass shaming everyone...

Stop mass shaming racists homophobes and all other bigots?

No thanks.

They deserve to wear that shame in public if you ask me.

So you want to bully people?

But don't place YOUR filters on what I say.

If you're big boy enough to not filter what comes out of your mouth, then you're also big boy enough to fully accept an ass-whooping when you piss someone off.

The street goes in both directions.

You poor, poor victim ...

I'm sorry if you chose to assume that using an example based a discussion you were already having was "not addressing the main question."

I could have tried it using faith, and then you would have spent all that time yelling about Christian victimhood.

I did indeed address you point by explaining exactly why PC is a problem. Go back and see for yourself.

Like I said, I use my filters on my language. You use yours.

PC is all about forcing people to use others filters.

You wouldn't like it if I forced you to speak using my filters, would you?

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on how to do away with Political Correctness.

How does that work exactly? Again political correctness is an application of free speech, so other than giving a bunch of people who don't understand PC and the 1st amendment smug satisfaction that they can amuse themselves on the internet, anyone who knows how things really work would just laugh at how stupid that meme is.

In order to defang a thing like PC, you have to discuss why it exists, what it is and why so much power is put behind it.

It's mostly the younger generations reacting to the hard, cold facts of reality, which is the main reason post secondary institutions are filled with students and some staff advocating for safe spaces.

I can understand why people feel the need to control language, I mean if you've been on the internet long enough you soon figure out how cruel people can be but I think this over saturation of sensitivity towards the feelings of others gets in the way of a proper objective discourse on serious issues.

Unfortunately it won't go away because we want it to.

So how is telling people they shouldnt be pc not dictating the message?

You are telling me I can't convey the message I want...

Nope. Place all the filters you want on what you say. I don't care.

But don't place YOUR filters on what I say.

Don't worry, you are free to make a fool out of yourself anytime you like.

Just don't get pissie when someone points it out....

I can take the PC speech but all this whining sure get old.

So they won't be punished by the state for speaking out against it?

You don't need a sign for that btw.

That's fine as long as they can back up their PC accusation with proof that such freedom of speech was in fact racist.

And?

Do you think before you type?..

If you don't know why you shouldn't just call someone racist when it possibly wasn't a racist statement, I'm lost for words...

You shouldn't call someone an idiot either without knowing first as well. Since when have confirming your opinion was true was a prerequisite for using your free speech? Like I said in the OP, I have no problem with you retaliating against a pc person by calling them a hypocrite. You are free to say such things, but someone calling you a racist for saying something possibly racist is perfectly fine as well, even if you truly aren't racist.

Name one politician who has introduce legislation to "abolish political correctness".

Just one.

This whole thread and your entire premise is one giant strawman as usual.

And there has a to a point at which people just plain put a muzzle on it.

Should I have to feel ashamed or be bullied because I mention to a coworker that I brought a brown bag lunch?

In some place, someone might decide I was being racist. Don't I have a right to get "pissie" if someone decides to police my speech and bully me for saying brown bag?

I asked how political correctness could be gotten rid of and you tell me it is a strawman. Seriously, it's so funny how you anti-pc people will whine about the latest pc click bait article posted on ATS at the drop of a hat, but when I ask you how you'd fix what you guys whine about constantly, I'm told it is a strawman. Thanks for confirming that you have no substance to your anti-pc arguments.

I hope not... But the Daily Mail thrives on this stuff.

Actually krazyshot, I believe we can abolish the PC culture.

You may have heard in schools they are indoctrinating kids with this nonsense by creating the mantra, ' there are no losers only participants'.

Well there's your answer, we need to create legislation that stops this nonsense at a young age. so that kids get offended again and get used to it.

This society we have created where people take offense against anything said is the problem, the cure is to make people tougher again and that starts at a young age.

There you go, I solved your silly problem.

a reply to: NateTheAnimator at its very worst PC is just a clumsy attempt at institutionalised politeness. It's not like people aren't still being attacked for their race, religion, gender sexuality and disability. There used to be a time in recent history when homosexuality was illegal and there was enforced segregation. Most people don't want those days back a few in this thread I imagine would like to see those as the American glory days.

I don't want to put filters on you, just want people to stop crying when they say something stupid and get called out.

Or freak out when some one doesn't say Christmas.
