Neo, I don't believe in organize religion that is my right, so how do I get protected from those that wants to force their believes on me while I am looking for public services paid by tax payers? I have the right of not to get discriminated.

The clerk has a right to her believes but she also have a right to her elected by the people position pay by the tax payers, If your job specification is something you can not perform because it conflict with your personal and religious believes you are not no longer qualified for the job.

She needs to step down, because religion is a choice.

Disclaimer: I am pro equality in marriage. I am pro equality in everything. I believe marriage should be removed from government altogether but alas, we have what we have. With that said...

What the hell is wrong with you people?

Cheering about a ruling where a woman has been imprisoned indefinitely?

Forced to comply with a change in beliefs or she rots in prison? What country is this again?

First of all let me ask this: what law did this woman break?

Where is the Equality in Marriage Act that has passed through Congress and was signed by the President?

Where is any mention of marriage in the Constitution that she is "breaking" according to some?

This woman is an elected official who has had her job description change mid-term. At the very least if there were a law enacted, it would have gone into effect after a time to allow for the people who did not agree with such to choose to leave office or not run again. This is her job and currently her livelihood and she, as an American citizen is forced by mob rule to first A. break her belief system or B. lose here job immediately and finally the grand choice of A. break her belief system or B. rot in prison indefinitely.

Screw the NDAA and its indefinite detention. We don't even need laws now to detain someone and for them to adapt to our mob principles. Now we cheer when, regardless of laws, people who are painted as the evil criminal with different beliefs or the "religious nutjobs" as people love to spout are forced to believe what everyone else believes.

I hope you all enjoy it when it happens to you all.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

so, which do you prefer, the crazy neighbor living down the street from you having a nuclear missle in their back yard waiting to launch, or the military downgrading to something that is more affordable to you?

and well as far as that tax bit, well, okay, know how you feel, probably know more than you do...
but well, mention the idea that minimum wage should be raised and that the workers should be paid more and we get a whole mess of grumbling about having to pay more for our crap. there's one thing for sure here... if the workers aren't given enough for shelter, food, clothing, transportation, ect, well, they won't be working too long will they? and when they are gone, who's gonna be making you that next big mac, or bagging your groceries at the store.

dependency=servitude...
we have one side pretending to nuture that dependency for the sake of the poor, the other is nurturing it for the sake of the business sector. and yes, it will eventually lead to us all ending up servants and slaves if left unchecked. but neither side is gonna give an inch so what can I say....enjoy your slavery?

She violated two separate clauses in the 14th Amendment regarding equal protection.

Equal protection covers a host of topics, including, but not limited to, marriage.

I have never seen so much Constitution fail in such a short time period. The Constitution is not a list of actions you are permitted to take and to think that it would have to enumerate all the 'can do's' is absurd.

It is a very succinct list of government 'can't do's' and this self-righteous tool bag violated two of them. I have no sympathy for jackwads that violate other people's rights.

The answer to all those questions has been already answered in this thread, sadly you will have to go back and start reading from the beginning.

BTW when the supreme court rule by constitutional definition congress and the presidents do not need to pass or sign any new laws, as the definition and interpretation of the constitution is enough.

Is all explained along the pages in this thread.

I don't like onions.

So, since I don't like onions, I don't want anyone else to eat onions.

I'm going to do everything I can to keep people from eating onions! My employer just started serving onions and told me I have to serve onions to people. I don't like onions! No one should like them either! I'm not going to do my job, my employer should keep paying me to not do my job, because I refuse to find another place of work that doesn't serve onions!

Doesn't anyone else see how ridiculous this whole thing is? Do you job, or step down.

The woman only has herself to blame for this. She can exercise her right to not like "onions" all she wants when she's not working for a place that serves "onions". This woman wanted to grand stand and make a big scene ... so the only one responsible for her being in jail is herself.

Yeah!!!! And because the Constitution does not specifically say that people have a right to eat onions they can go screw.

There is no escape from 'organized' religion. None what so ever. Many people fail to see it.

The acceptable boogieman is people like that clerk, all the while ignoring our government is a 'organized' religion.

That's when the word agenda comes to mind, is not that she is breaking her oath to God but that she has been coaxed and is been motivate by an agenda, the agenda is been backed by anti gay groups.

Interestingly when the Supreme court site the 14th amendment of the constitution to grant everybody rights to get marriage licenses without discrimination, we all knew that it was going to be those that will try to challenge it base on the rights freedom of religion, but while is freedom of religion you can not discriminate base on that right.

I don't understand why people care about who has sex with who and who marries -- what do these actions by other people have to do with you? How does another person's supposed "sins" impact your life?

I ask the same thing about rich folks, and gun owners.

There is always an 'acceptable' rationalization.

Actually I see government as a organized corporate entity more than just and organized religious entity, they just use religion to show that they do believe on something but that something is the god of profiting while raping the tax payer for money.

first, maybe I am wrong but it seems like this has been going on for months...she's had time to resign and find another position. what the heck, when it was the hobby lobby case, everyone was saying that is a women wanted birth control coverage bad enough, they could just go out and find another job!
second four out of the five workers who was working underneath her are willing now to process these marriage licenses and all she has to do is allow them to do it. she doesn't have to even talk to the gays, take their information, write their names in the spaces provided or any of it...except maybe slap a stamp on the paperwork, which she probably never really reads thoroughly enough anyways that she'd know if it was two men, two women, or a donkey and a horse for that matter.
she wasn't willing to do that, and the judge did give her the offer today...
so well, she has chosen to be in jail...
now, let's look at the other side of this,
the lady has been refusing everyone marriage licenses for like I said seems like months, maybe I am wrong though. so, well, if the people she has refused wanted to get married they would have had to travel to another county to do that. they are taxpayers, to the county of their residence, not the adjoining ones. so not only have they paid the country for this service, but they now have to possibly take additional time off work, and burn more gas traveling farther than they should to get this license. and what about the adjoining counties? they haven't received any funding from these people in the form of taxes and yet they are getting the additional burden of having to handle the marriage applications for this country.

so, which do you think is the greater burden?? her either sucking it up and at least letting those under her process the marriage licenses or finding another job, or all the people in that county going to other counties to get their licenses?

There was once a great country and little by little things changed. Laws led to new laws.

Before you know it many laws were the exact opposite of what they had been before. Some people protested that the laws were not in place when they began their jobs and took their oath to act on the laws behalf.

One by one people filed into the clerk's office and registered. I don't honestly know if any clerks refused to accept the registrations but I am sure a few did.

Before you knew it, one by one and even family by family, the registered people began to "move away". Many wondered what kind of place could possibly be better than their wonderful cities.

Some people did object to the new laws though. The populace demanded they be fired, or worse.... and they were. They were jailed and the citizens rejoiced. How dare those scum not enforce the new laws!

Then their world came crashing down around them as things inevitably change. Families were separated, some even died.

Those that still supported the new laws and were so cruelly enforcing them were put to death by the liberators. Many were put on trial, and the trials continued for over 50 years.

Isn't that wonderful? It must be nice being so righteous that you have never broken a single law yet demand such harsh action for someone breaking a law that doesn't even pertain to you.

That's the ingenious thing about it. Government created money. Then use it for control. Get the masses fighting over something that has no real value.

Corporations have NOTHING on government.

It's because it's all for show...

This woman is getting famous because of it. I don't believe for one second she is sincere in her religious beliefs. I truly believe this all for fame and money. People remember how much that tiny pizza place got for refusing to serve gay people.

Your right, she had months to find another job and step down. Conservatives are always telling people "if you don't like it, go someplace else!" -- but this case is different because it's something they're behind.

Uh, corporations control governments. Who do you think writes the legislation that the members of congress vote on? Who do you think pays to get the people in congress elected? Governments are nothing more than a public front to legitimize corporate power, and give the people a false sense of power over the world.
