The Dark/Deep Web
I am sorry if there was a post like this already (not trying to copy anyone)

What is The Deep Web?
Here is a picture i found that kind of describes it

So what you already know from the picture (hopefully you see it) Is that the deep web is 500x larger then the surface web that most of the people use everyday.

A lot of people think that the "Deep Web" is only used for drugs , Illegal Porn and others. But People use it for other purposes like communicating , journals , politics and lot's of others.

Imagine sites like ATS or WIKILEAKS that are not controllable by the goverment but the people like us. There is lot's of sites with info that bearly anyone knows about.

Even the goverment , military and police use it. We could all see these documents , i am not going to say i saw them , but you never know i like to peek around.

Well , not everything is legal , but everything you do using TOR is anonymous so if you will be cautious about it i think youll be fine. (well i am)

How Does it Work?

It is really simple.
By using the browser TOR (i will not post the link in here) you can access the deep web with no problems.
Tor does not work like chrome or firefox or any other browsers.
Here is a quick picture that ill explain in a second

So unlike the normal internet Tor hides our identity by chaning our ip , what you can do youreself too for even more percaution by getting a VPN.
So for example if you want to visit a website on tor , youre relay goes throught multiple other computers (volunters)

So before you visit a website youre relay went through a dozen of other relays and finally hit the website. It cannot be traced as the relays always go through random other computers.

Dangers
There is a lot of websites that cant be taken down by some random people or goverment.
My idea of using the deep web is to share info that no one can control. As people that are crazy.
People like (pedophiles , rapists , killers lots of others) Use the dark web , and even have websites to oparate.

geez....do people really think that the NSA can't, or, hasn't created an algorithm to track IP addresses on TOR?

U can always also use a VPN youre self , and NSA only tracks people that are running websites on TOR like SilkRoad

Been there. Done that. Came home with the crappy t-shirt.

Seriously... the "dark web," or whatever, is the place to go if you want to get noticed by the NSA, FBI, DIA, etc.

Just about every ISP with more than 100 customers is closely monitored, and by doing this, you're guaranteed to eventually "get a look" by those you'd rather not have looking at you.

At this point, the best strategy is to go with a large ISP and educate yourself about your router's security capabilities and apply all the appropriate tweaks.

Using TOR/Dark-web today is like going to Black Panther meetings in the 1970's -- the government knows you're doing it.

There's no protection against a government agency subpoenaing ISP access logs. There's no VPN or IP-masking network that will obfuscate what your ISP knows about what you're doing. And ISP's are required to keep the logs for two years.

With all respect , The VPN masks youre ip to another one to anohter one , it can be endless. With the help of tor , you can always run

A recent blog post from the Google / CIA group Recorded Future provides information about their Tor exit node data dump.

and several vendors offer monitoring services

Well if that intersts you guys so much. It goes Deeper then the Deep web. There is a whole diffrent Web that people dont know about , and i wont talk about on ATS. Do a little research on the deep web about it

Of course TOR is not illegal.

What you do with it is an entirely different matter.

I use Tor for a long time. I have a diffrent laptop with a "special" operating system. I also do not pay for the internet.

People seem to think that a VPN make a person anonymous.

i did not say that. There is other things then getting a VPN

Also reply to: SkepticOverlord

Exactly , also the last exit node hop will get you every time. Several so called hackers got caught this way.

People should be careful as you suggest with Tor and its perceived anonymity, even with vpn. It just buys you time at best.

I do wish we had internet legislation that only information dealing with violence, terrorism and children can be used for prosecution . However, that is not the case.
