The confederate flag stands for racism, slavery, dehumanization, violence against other non caucasian races, and pro segregation, it always has and always will be bad for America. Nothing good will ever come from it.

People who fly it dont care that they offend people it could actually be seen as a provocation to incite violence. Go wave one on a college campus or downtown in a city center, in any state you will only provoke people. If your raising a confederate flag you know your provoking people and your doing it on purpose, done be suprised when there is blowback.

It deserves no place of honor in our modern society, those who honor such things dont deserve a place in our modern society.

Simple question...if you respond please limit your response to the question asked. Do you believe that we should live in a country where we can not, or where it should be illegal to offend another person? And if you say "yes"...REALLY????????

What does that have to do with the true racist history of the dixicrat chosen confederate emblem, and the true history of the confederacy fighting for the rights to own slaves?

BEcause history is written by the victors, and Lincoln got what he deserved for lying about the actual reasons for the civil war. What would had happenned if Lincoln had lived and he sent the freed slaves to Liberia? We would be arguing about how racist he was. And in his own words he said that he considered the slaves Inferior to white men.

SO how can everyone whitewash his speech and thoughts? what else does this put into question? his integrity for sure. Honest Abe my butt.

If there are ever reparations for slavery..... a whole bunch of white people are going to get paid.

There were more whites held in slavery than blacks.... the whites slaves were considered inferior to black slaves and sold for much cheaper prices. Or so I heard.

Well since Abe didnt get a chance to deport the african americans to liberia you got a point, STILL though lincolns own words denote thinking that would be classes as racist these days. So why since we know this now do we allow him a place of honor when his own words say hes a racist?

The price of slavery has been paid and the states rights questions settled long ago.

Uh, no, the price of slavery is still being paid : ats link

We still lie about slavery: Here’s the truth about how the American economy and power were built on forced migration and torture

TO say that modern America's economy has ANYTHING to do with slavery is laughable. Or at least it would be if it weren't such a sad and desperate attempt to bash the U.S.

That is absolutely not true. Although the first slaves in the New World were in fact white.

It's called propaganda. Perhaps you are familiar with the term. Spin a story a certain way and it is rather easy to incite the masses to go to war for whatever cause you want.

You're right about that, quoting President Woodrow Wilson

U.S president Woodrow Wilson is quoted as saying “the role of slavery
became the proclaimed cause of the Civil War because it was necessary to
put the South at a moral disadvantage by transforming the contest from a
war for Independence into a war waged for the maintenance and extension
of slavery”. If slavery was all the Southern states wanted they could
have kept it without a war or firing a shot. The North offered the South
the Corwin Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in March 1861 that would
have made slavery permanently legal in America if they would rejoin the
union. The South refused and the Constitution of the Confederate States
of America banned the international slave trade. Most educated
Southerners were in favor of gradual orderly emancipation which would
have prevented segregation and Jim Crow laws which were based on
Northern black codes.

Everyone on this site should know who writes history, and the North had to make themselves appear to be in the moral "right" to justify some of the things they did to the South. A lot of you are just buying into OLD PROPAGANDA, plain and simple.

Lincoln was a racist himself is what im getting at. therefore hypocritical. Civil war was over money and property. Lincoln was just a man with influence. no better in actuality than anyone else. HE would had just shipped the slaves away and left them there with no support if he would had lived.

I personally think that both sides need to back down and stop the endless rhetoric and complaints. Both sides are correct and the way they are going about this is wrong. Should the federal government fly it over say state buildings, no. Should it be removed fully from all areas of society, no, as some places it is perfectly acceptable for such. One such place would be say the graves of those who died during the civil war that fought for the south. It represents them for what they were willing to fight and die for.

But by constantly nickle and diming all of the small stuff, it only serves to divide and force a wedge further in the fractures of society.

Funny how NONE of you remember the IRISH slaves..."Only MY people"I believe is your common sentiment.
If someone TRIED OPEN slavery they would be SLAUGHTERED. Their last conversation would be a GURGLE if I caught one.
THIS ain't the MIDDLE EAST although it SURE looks like they wouldn't mind it...

Funny enough you can actually look up all the documents pertaining to why the states left the Union, which was the core reason for the civil war. Those states actually left the United States of America. The underlying reason, or main reason they left the United States of America was slavery. It's right there for you to research. Especially pertaining to Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina and Texas.

But do some research and you'll see, Slavery WAS the reason for the Civil War.

Here's a quote from Texas....

“We hold as undeniable truths that the governments of the various States, and of the confederacy itself, were established exclusively by the white race, for themselves and their posterity; that the African race had no agency in their establishment; that they were rightfully held and regarded as an inferior and dependent race, and in that condition only could their existence in this country be rendered beneficial or tolerable.”

“The new Constitution has put at rest forever all the agitating questions relating to our peculiar institutions—African slavery as it exists among us—the proper status of the negro in our form of civilization. This was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution […] The general opinion of the men of that day [Revolutionary Period] was, that, somehow or other, in the order of Providence, the institution [slavery] would be evanescent and pass away […] Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition.”

Thats the most shameful part. There weren't a lot of slave owners in Texas, and we really didn't have much skin in the game. Texas only declared its allegiance to the confederacy because of political relationships with its border states.

Let me tell you how bad of a decision it was: Sam Houston was dead set against it. Enough so that we were stupid enough to remove our hero from office. For doing the right thing, and trying to stay out of the Civil War

SPIT.

And the Vietnam war was about saving America from the dirty commies. The president said so and so did all his minions.
And the Iraq war was about getting rid of weapons of mass destruction. The president said so and so did lots of other folks. You can find that claim published in lots of places.
Look, I know a lot of you loved your high school history teachers and really, really believed them knowing that they were good people. But if you read actual accounts of the people involved in the war, you will see a very different picture.

I actually research it. If you research it you'll see a very different picture. I've put two quotes from the Texas Succeding document up above. Horrible. The growing abolitionist movement in the north and the economic benefit from slavery for the south all but sealed the deal. It was all about Slavery.

Let's say you were poor white boy in the south and your family never owned a slave ever, you had no plans to own a slave or buy one, in fact maybe you were progressive for a southerner and neutral on the matter. You never even joined the army of the Confederacy. But then you hear what happened when the north invaded 3 counties over pillaging and burning peoples properties, and they are coming your way. Now you feel you have no choice but to join the state militia and defend your land.
For that soldier the war was not about slavery but protecting his property and home, and if he joined the militia of Tennessee he may have charged into battle under that very flag. If he died his decedents would honor his valor with that very same flag.
