It is likely an artifact of my complete lack of desire to read a whole bunch about this...but I haven't seen ages anywhere. Are you saying that as a 14+ year old he molested a 6 year old?

Probably younger. One of the girls he molested is still a minor, meaning she would have been toddler aged? 4 at most at the time? That is truly #ed up behaviour.

The court order from yesterday says that the victim who requested destruction of the police report is still a minor. To be a minor on May 21, 2015, the absolute latest she could have been born is May 22, 1997.

Which means, of course, that at least one of the girls was no older than six when this occurred, and could have been much younger.

Fourteen year old boys engage in sexual experimentation with other fourteen year olds/teenagers.

Six year old children engage in sexual experimentation with other six year olds.

Fourteen and six? No. There is no level playing field whatsoever.

The police report indicates "forcible fondling", and since six year old girls have no breasts, I presume that leaves only one area. Nope. Something is not right. If you look into the histories of many sexual offenders, particularly pedophiles, this is how it begins.

Having given this more thought, the other question is this:

What kind of parents are the Duggars? Most normal people, if they caught a person, no matter who it was, messing with their young children would have been so upset, that they would have either beaten or at least sought a very harsh punishment over the person, and never would have trusted that person around their children. So why did the mother tolerate such, after finding out about it, why did she not act in the interest of protecting her children?

I wish I had those answers, too. I've never watched the show, but I knew about it. I would think any parent would want punishment for a stranger who had molested their daughters.

Recently I read that Josh had been sent to ATI or some place similar because he had been inappropriately touching his sisters. Did he sexually abuse his sisters? Before I had heard it was something that sounded more innocent. I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and am dealing with it in therapy after 40-some years of telling no one other than my husband. This is such a life changing event in the lives of girls who are abused by a brother/sibling. If this is true, the Duggars sicken me at how they have handled it. My gut feeling is that the girls didn't get any help to heal from the trauma. Does anyone know this story? If so, I would appreciate knowing the truth. Thanks in advance!

I believe I heard yesterday on the news that he was indeed sent away somewhere following the disclosure of the incident. (which would have been actively protecting the young girls in the home.)

People have a tendency to blame the parents when something like this happens, and I'm not so fast to blame the Duggars in this case. It was reported to police, who dropped the ball, and the parents personally reported it to their church. For me personally, the church counselor doesn't count much in a situation like this. But we don't know, perhaps they did seek counseling for him in a mental health setting.

I hope the child victim was also engaged in therapy with a MH professional, as childhood molestation can have very serious effects on the victim for many years.

It is getting even more interesting. After this came out, several days, a judge ordered the record destroyed. Mike Huckabee, goes to support the Duggars and thinks it is wrong that everyone is up in arms about such. And now it seems as though there is a connection between the Judge and Mike. The judge who ordered such was appointed by Mike while he was in office. Something tells me that there is something bigger here and it is going to come out, and pretty much hang on him like a bad odor.

At first discovery, the parents did nothing until months later, when Josh did it again. They told a family friend, who was a state trooper. That was the extent of "reporting it". The state trooper gave Josh a "talking to", letting him know that he could get in serious trouble for this kind of thing. The trooper didn't, however, file a report or tell anyone else about it. And he is now in prison for child pornography.

The parents sent Josh to Bill Gothard, a minister, for "counseling". Josh ended up helping him build a building. You can read about him here. He is a sexual predator: www.abovetopsecret.com...

I do blame the parents. They didn't protect their daughters. Many people here seem to be concerned with Josh's innocence at 14-15. That may be. But my concern is for the victims. I haven't read much at all about any counseling they may have received. If it's anything like Josh received, it was highly inadequate.

A MH professional would have reported it to authorities, wouldn't they? In my view, it seems the Duggars wanted to keep this quiet... within a certain circle... and not involve professionals or authorities.

Timeline of events

A year ago I called that guy. I told my wife he's a pedo but she didn't believe me. Until just a few days ago.... If anyone watched that show and you're good at reading people it's fairly apparent, along with the dad. The way he talks about "giving up his girls" is down right disgusting. All wrapped in a cute little religious package.

Gross and fraudulent people, for sure.... After a few episodes I had to leave the room when my wife watched it.

To say the Duggars are completely and fully responsible is a bit of an overreaction, don't you think? Don't lose sight of the fact that fourteen year olds without question know the difference between right and wrong, so one can't dismiss personal responsibility.

I am unable to find a correlation between religiosity and child sexual abuse within the home. My guess is it's about the same in religious/non-religious homes.

Oh yeah, if this is the case then the parents didn't protect the child victim, and that should have been #1 on the agenda.

But they can't correct a situation they are unaware of. This child or any child might have had multiple encounters before telling anyone. It could have also been reported by an older sibling who witnessed it. Still not clear on how it came to light.

Six year olds who are clueless about sexual activity often perceive it as "physical abuse", because it physically hurts. I do give the parents credit for being "approachable" in this way, as some kids would never tell their parent this. They often report to a stranger.

According to your link, Josh was sent to live with friends, (most certainly I hope -- friends without young children) which supports what I heard on the news. So clearly this was an action to protect the younger children in the home, but how long after they learned about it? That is the rub.

Pedophiles will target both male and female children. However, one such pedophile told me most of this victims were male, only because they tended to be more cooperative than females with his manipulations. He admitted he actually preferred females. (ie if you come into my apartment I will let you jump on my bed, and give you a popsicle). Also females are warned by parents about this type thing more than males, and that definitely needs to be corrected. (Yeah, I'm kinda rambling, sorry) Josh had many females who were very available and vulnerable to him.

I will sound bad here, I know, but to be honest, it will not surprise me one bit if there are more than one Duggar child involved. Possibly even some of the male children, although we know male children are less likely to report, and it might never come to light.

It's an actual biological sickness and there is no known cure. Sure you can 'not give into your impulse', but at the end of the day there's a very sad fact about pedophiles.

They fall in love with children. They can't help it, they find them attractive and they can't help it. No amount of therapy is going to help.

I have a good friend who is a psychologist, and he has had multiple pedophiles in individual therapy, and in group therapy, and as you might imagine, he gets extremely frustrated with the recidivism rate.

He once told me this:

If I could find a way to mount a 38 caliber handgun to the head of pedophile, and have it rigged in some way that it would go off if the person began to molest a child, and he was aware of the immediate consequences, then I could stop it.

Kinda sad, huh? But Tenth, I don't think they "fall in love" with the child. (Never say never of course) but once the pattern is established, it becomes a drive. Like hunger. So extremely difficult to treat. But for the most part, they might have children they would prefer, but once the "drive" kicks in, most any child they have access to will do.
