its strange, Doc, who would think my brother would attack me as an adult?

I was in my thirties he is ten years older then me OMG.

I realize the Duggars were young at the time, but beware.

I believe these are the skeletons in many many families closets, people don't want to talk about, it makes everyone uncomfortable.

In fact it never dawned on me to tell anyone, but my daughter told me he tried the same stuff with her.

What is it about these sort of things that keep you silent for so long?

I feel bad for you and I hope you find as much peace as possible.

Why? Because they're sick. Something, somewhere , somehow went wrong in their minds. Very commonly abusers were once abused themselves so we see an eternal chain of abuse over and over again.

People hide it for various reasons--embarrassment, shame at failing to raise a good kid, fear, perhaps guilt at being the abuser that made their son or daughter an abuser themselves, denial--after all, most parents love their kids and can't imagine that they are actually bad or sick. There a lot of reasons why.

The most important thing, IMHO, that an abused person needs to embrace and understand is that it's not your fault.

Yikes:

InTouch reported that his father took Josh to an Arkansas state trooper who was a personal friend, who took no action other than a "very stern talk." That officer is now serving a 56-year term in prison for child pornography, the magazine reported, and no case was ever brought against Josh Duggar.

The friend of the family state trooper who gave the stern talk is serving a 56-year sentence for child pornography?

That's probably why the father took him to that officer, the old man knew he wouldn't do anything. And likewise that's why the officer did nothing. He didn't see anything wrong as he himself was involved in the child abuse arena.

“Twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret. I hurt others, including my family and close friends. I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation. We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing, and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life.”

NO mention of the victims lives!
NO surprise here!

well I'm flabbergasted completely, the oldest girl had to be one of them because not too many of the girls had breast given he was the oldest.
wonder if they will cancel the show?

Heck, kids quite often are abused by family friends. It is possible (pure speculation) that the officer abused Josh when he was younger and that's what started him down that road.

thanks Doc.

I think the Duggers are crazy for doing this show.

Although I never watched it,but once or twice, there was always something not right about it.

OMG that makes you wonder.

There is a lot more to this story then meets the eye, I do feel so sorry for the innocent children, they have been put in a horrible position now,

It is extremely common for abusers to start out as abuse victims themselves. If this cop was such a trusted family friend that the dad went to him with this issue, then it is very likely that this cop also had access to the young Josh when he was little--camping trips, holidays, cookouts, etc. Then we find out that this same "trusted family friend" is in jail for child porn. I don't think it takes a rocket surgeon to connect those dots.

Thanks for the thread. My wife will be saddened by this too.
She likes this show since it appears to be one of the FEW wholesome shows left on TV.

Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Just curious as to why is this show considered wholesome? Because the family pretends to be devoutly religious? The last daughter to get married consummated the marriage in a church closet during the wedding reception. Now the son molested underage girls. These freaks are abnormal, not wholesome. Just because they proclaim Jesus to be the centerpiece of their lives. So did Catholic priests who molested kids.

19 kids. They can't possibly take care of them all. They are sloughing off the responsibility for child raising onto the older kids. The responsibility should be with the parents, not with the other children. I know the law disagrees with me, but I find that to be an abusive thing to do to children ... force them to raise someone else's kids.

That's not what I've read. I read Dad knew him through his work. Dad had a car lot. The officer was assigned to examine the cars. (But, who really knows).

I'm sure more details will be coming forward.

Josh and his wife are going for a spin-off show... People hate the Kardashians for their shenanigans, but none of them ever molested little kids... And the Duggars are "religious", so I guess that changes everything.

I'm considering writing to TLC because they are considering canceling "19 Kids".

I have to agree. I don't think the show is wholesome. I understand it's draw. People like to look at sideshow freaks.

I don't have problem with "we don't believe in sex outside of marriage"--that's wholesome, I guess, even if not very realistic and that is not an uncommon belief. However, they take it to a bizarre extreme. "No hand holding until married" and mom and dad chaperoning dates with their mid-twenties daughter (who should be out of the house and making her own way anyway)? Creepy as hell.

TLC should cancel it. There is something unsettling about parents who put their kids on display for profit anyway, even without this added issue.

There's been a strong push to cancel this show, before this disclosure, because of their position on gays.

Being anti-gay is one thing ---- but, promoting the lies Fundies do about LGBT is another. They have made some very ignorant statements in regards to LGBT.

And Michele's sister is a lesbian. I can't even imagine how she thinks of these Cretans.

This might be enough fuel to end the show.

Well, maybe they should cancel the show as it seems a little deceitful for a reality show (really? LOL) to
keep this hidden although I do understand wanting to protect the anonymity of the victims. I mean I don't really expect them to broadcast it but, I don't know it just seems odd that it is coming to light now. Why now? Why ever then?
I certainly wouldn't want all of my past wrong deeds or poor decisions put out there for public consumption but, then again, I am not on a TV show supposedly exposing my REAL life either!
I have always found Jim Bob to be somewhat arrogant and pompous and portray his parenting skills and husbandly ways as being superior to the rest of the world.
THAT however is only MY opinion.

Yes, got that

And you could be right. Definitely not disagreeing with "the abused, abuse".

Just holding back waiting for more facts.

I was thinking, although I don't watch the show, what if they took this and brought what happened into the light, to help other victims, if the family was willing to take it to that level.

Jenner could have kept his transition hidden forever but he chose to use it for a platform, after all, all the Duggers are not guilty, some are victims that deserve a voice.

I was not aware of that alleged incident. As I wrote in my original post my wife thinks that, and I put 'appears' in italics.

She does not like to go past the portrayed illusion when it comes to MSM.

I personally find the show disturbing and am not surprised at this.

I keep trying to wake her up, but most of what I say disturbs her too much to consider.
