Maybe the fact that it was irrelevant as it had already been established that that source didn't run the story? As said before.

Again I was just questioning why it would be run in Sputnik news, I wasn't saying it was...there is a difference.

I see you missed the part of the question that asked if the story was real why would it run in Sputnik news...I was asking because it wouldn't be run in the Russian media as the article in the OP says it was.

From the OP...

Today Dmitry Kiselev, director general of the Russian International News Agency "Russia Today", on its French-speaking resource fr.sputniknews.com published confirmation of the statements of the Kremlin press service that Russian President Vladimir Putin, really ready to launch a nuclear attack on Moscow.

So now how does questioning the authenticity of the OP article source for this comment become irrelevant. Yes it was said to not be run there which is why questioned the article that says it was with the question.

Like I said, there was no need for your question about "if", because there clearly is no "if", not now and not at the time of your question.

It seems it was enough to get Sputnik news to comment about it on their site...

fr.sputniknews.com...

Imagine that I agree that the article was BS and asked why if it were true why Russian state run media would run a story such as that, but I see agreeing and asking a question is something some don't understand.

Wether you were sincere or just backtracking now is an interesting question, but very off topic so......

What backtracking as I asked a question that questions the validity of the story as posted in the OP and I get railroaded with ridiculous accusations. Gotta love ATS.

For years and years this site was mainly about America centered conspiracies, anti Obama etc, then suddenly as tensions started to rise in the Ukraine it became all about bashing Putin/Russia, with the same handful of posters taking the lead.

I suppose it is not unfair to give some attention to other countries and their leaders and it could even be a normal evolution, but is it?

Is it natural?

Does it look natural?

Does it feel natural............

What the hell is going on over there?

What the hell is going on with ATS?

I mean, seriously, has ATS became a tool for pushing obvious propaganda? And if so, for what purpose? Are they/you trying to see just how big of an influence can ATS have on people's opinion? Why's the "official" ATS so obviously anti-Russia orientated?
I swear, ATS is becoming more and more like a tabloid, judging by the stuff that is being posted by one of the OWNER without checking the validity of source.

Have we( ATS ) lost our independency?

And, no, this is absolutely not off-topic.

Rampant Disinformation

NATO has announced that it is launching an “information war” against Russia.

The UK publicly announced a battalion of keyboard warriors to spread disinformation.

It’s well-documented that the West has long used false propaganda to sway public opinion.

Western military and intelligence services manipulate social media to counter criticism of Western policies.

Such manipulation includes flooding social media with comments supporting the government and large corporations, using armies of sock puppets, i.e. fake social media identities. See this, this, this, this and this.

ATS is social media.

I guess this explains why was the "deny ignorance" banner removed from ATS...Remember the times when ATS was independent and about actual conspiracies? Good old times

I do think that in the US the propaganda runs more rampant than in the EU for obvious reasons and there is more pressure to release some news. This is mostly a US forum so it doesn't seem strange that a Cold-war stance is taken by many american members.
In europe is a rather different thing (UK is a bit different tho), a lot of people in the western EU never saw Russia as a threat while eastern EU is surely very concerned.

The propaganda is spreading lies from both sides, we just happen to be on the side where we get 80%/20% simply due to the available comprehensible articles.

The only thing I'm a bit angry about is that being a conspiracy site there should be some open-mindness about the possibility this IS western propaganda, and the strawman argument that Putin is the evil is just that, a strawman. After all, no sane mind would really think that the US has no interests in keeping the EU as a strong community or that Russia has any intention to destroy one of their primary source of income and business.
On the other side it's rather easy to demonize an homophobic ex-kgb agent that has raised to power with the help of mafious oligarchy, but this doesn't mean that there is no middle ground or that there are parties that SHOULDN'T be so involved in this conflict.

That's just my 2c

One would think that they would have so many failsafes built into their systems for launching that it would be impossible for one man to launch missiles . Lets hope so . But for mine its propaganda , and bad propaganda at that .

Perhaps you are not aware of the three (maybe four, I think one remained missing) nuke bombs that somebody in the US government had moved out of storage in a northwest state and sent down to a southeast state all without official rules being followed? Remember, when you are in charge, you are in charge and your underlings probably will follow orders. One nuclear bomb for the Kremlin to show that you are playing for keeps sounds exactly like the man. He is serious and no different from Stalin and other Russian leaders that didn't mind a bit if it was necessary to kill a few million citizens to prove a point.

Attack on Freedom of Speech has already started in France...

France Blocks 5 Websites Without A Court Order

More websites are to follow.

The President of the French Republic, François Hollande, has assimilated what he calls "conspiracy theories" to Nazism and called to prevent their dissemination on the Internet and social networks.

“[Anti-Semitism] maintains conspiracy theories that spread without limits. Conspiracy theories that have, in the past, led to the worst “(…)” [The] answer is to realize that conspiracy theories are disseminated through the Internet and social networks. Moreover, we must remember that it is words that have in the past prepared extermination. We need to act at the European level, and even internationally, so that a legal framework can be defined, and so that Internet platforms that manage social networks are held to account and that sanctions be imposed for failure to enforce”

He then asked the French Socialist Party to prepare new legislation to repress all dissident voices.

Source

All "opposing" views will be labeld soon as promoting or commissioning terrorism and websites who don`t follow the official line will be blocked...not even a court order needed anymore.

That's a checkmate move really!

Overthrow us, & we'll end it all!

They've created their own Samson Option that Israel threaten everyone with.

I'm surprised they divulged this though...

Crazy!

This is nothing new. That has been their tactic through the ages. They'd rather burn it down then let a foreign invader benefit the spoils of the capital city. And, it apparently worked well in each event. Just ask Napoleon.

I tend to think "something very important" happened during Putin's missing days. I do believe there was some level of power struggle, and Putin dare not show until it had been resolved.

Agreed. Putin retreated to a safe place he could easily defend himself. Something happened while Putin was missing.

I think Putin has survived an attempted coup, not through bloodshed, but through negotiation.

I'm not so sure an actual Coup was tried. There were no strange announcements of control shifting to someone else. No troop movements that could have enforced a change.
At most there might have been a mini 'revolt' of many Oligarchs over the Nemtsov killings. A group of them may have approached Putin as a block and demanded changes. They may have some support in the FSB. I think a new deal was agreed.

The new Putin is more hawkish, more regionally aggressive, and showing cracks with his troubled alliance with Ramzan Kadyrov (who some analysts say is the source of the power-struggle during Putin's absence).

Putin has been shifting towards his hawkish group of support for a long time now. I don't see signs of more regional aggression except the Finnish war games being matched by a large Russian war game. We'll soon see any change in Russian policies in Ukraine I'm sure.

Kadyrov is Putin's personal enforcer and a power balance to the FSB, which Putin might find he is lacking the total control of that he wants. If a real Coup ever does happen the FSB will be the key to success.

I suspect Putin was told he has to de-escalate the Ukraine conflict. We'll see over the next months if I'm right. Ukraine has already made requirements of recognized elections before any power is devolved from Kiev...something Russia automatically would refuse. The EU and US have linked sanctions to Minsk 2 and these elections.

The 'West' appears to be demanding a full return of East Ukraine with no little statelets that Russia is trying to install. If Putin backs down and returns East Ukraine then we know what happened when he disappeared for 11 days.

The Ukrainian story is trash however.

Is it completely out of the question that they really did overthrow Putin, had a replacement have facial surgery to basically be Putin still? Hey, not that I believe this but is it really out of the question?

But if you translate other "news" from this author Alex Novodvorski there opens another different reality to what is happening in Russia.
newsdaily.com.ua... Google translate if you wish, there is more crap to read.

Why this thread is still not in the hoax bin is beyond me.

I do find it quite disturbing that he posted this at midnight on a Sunday. Obviously folks in the states weren't his target audience. Definitely propaganda pushing, the question is why?

I wouldn't hoax bin the thread.

I see it as trying to dig into what happened when Putin was gone for 11 days. There is lots of speculation out there, 99% garbage of course.

The value of having so many people dig around and confirm or deny these things is really incredible. These threads need to be understood better...not hoax binned.

There are plenty other threads to raise speculations about "missing Putin".

Doing this under this particular title making disservice to the site.

Besides, according to the hoaxer Putin is dead like two weeks already lol.

I really like the Reddit 'format' of massive numbers of people combing through info to find the truth. There is no reason ATS could not bring this format to 'alternative subjects'. It already does somewhat, however threads devolve into pissing matches or garbage, and I do it as much as anyone sadly.

A different section with strict moderation would probably focus threads on 'truth finding'. I do hope something like that happens. Until then I play in the mud with everyone else!
