I don't think CP is a very good example either, but I still consider them normal people with a handicap.
I hope you see the trend I am getting at and we can get away from the "what if's"

And are you calling the homosexuality the deviant behavior or the webbed feet?
Would need an explanation on both either way tho.

And the debate is still out there on the biological cause, by no means answered a 100% no on that.

"bullying" is the new buzzword, they can use it to justify anything. It's the perfect combination, it protects children, it promotes non violence. Who can argue with anti bullying?

Bullying is a natural part of growing up, kids should learn to deal with it. Don't confuse bullying with assault, assaults are bad and shouldn't be tolerated, bullying is pecking order establishment.

Yes. That's what this is about.
Kids should learn to not tolerate it in any form, against any one.

It's the parents job but the parents AREN'T DOING IT! Why? Because they're entrenched in their beliefs.

So the government has to step in?

What the frack ever happened to freedom?

Your kind of freedom enslaves the kids to the closed-minded ideas of their freaking parents! That is very, very close to fascism!

Versus the closed-minded ideology of the state?

You are talking about that ideology which tries to give your children all availabe information about every possible lifestyle? How is this closed-minded?

Not archaic but you refuse to believe that being gay is normal....That there is something wrong with them.
Wonder how you would handle it if one of your kids is gay....
But of course that could never, EVER happen right?
But nothing some meds and therapy couldn't fix right?

If one of my kids turned out to be gay, I would still love him/her. I would counsel them on my own.

It really doesn't look like they are trying to give children all available information about every possible life style. For example its not like the heterosexual lifestyle is getting equal billing here. Its not a comparative study.

I posted the available excerpts from the films pages and pages ago. There are more clips on YouTube. But not a single critic has pointed out what's wrong with the films themselves. They seem completely innocuous and age-appropriate to me.

It's very easy for people to attack imagined films or curricula. But when faced with the films themselves, no has taken a step near them. Or pointed out what's inaccurate, inappropriate or damaging in them.

Plus, no one is discussing how and why this material was selected. Or even the general way school curriculum is chosen. It's a local process. And parents and other citizens can get involved in many ways. From being elected to school boards to testifying at their public meetings. There's people of all stripes on school boards, including tons and tons of conservatives many of them self-described tea partiers.

School curriculum is under continual review. And school boards have been known to edit textbooks and other material on a line-by-line basis. And if parents think there's a statutory or constitutional problem they can turn to the courts. It's not a perfect process. What in a democracy is? But it's a process that gives the citizenry many chances to object and seek redress.

Really?... You mean like the father who was arrested by the police because he was against the pornography being taught to children and his daughter and the school board didn't want to hear about his concerns and got him arrested for daring to speak up?...

Is that what you are talking about?...

Is that what you are talking about? in this instance several parents tried to stand up for the father who got arrested for DARING to ask questions that the school board didn't want to answer.

Okay, first off none of the kids at 5 years old are trans-gender. I believe that you are born the way you are however at 5 it really doesn't make a noticable difference. You know what does? Autism does, Mental retardation does, and a stutter all make a noticable difference. These can all lead to bullying and ridicule however at 5 years old being gay won't lead to bullying. At 5 years old i knew i loved my best friend garrett. It became kind of weird at 9 or so to "love" your best friend. Then at 14 or so when I was older and realized that life was fragile it was okay/normal for me to love him again. I was never in-love with garrett, I just loved him like a brother. This never changed and never led to me being ridiculed. Kids at a young age don't need to be taught specifically to accept gay children, they need to be taught to accept children in general. I have no problem with anti-bullying videos or classes, but why slant it towards gay children? They are 5.....I would even hold hands with garrett. I don't see 5 year olds making out or trying to have sex, so why harp on them being gay or not?

They are 5 man....

Its amazing how these "cops" are not at all embarrassed at themselves.

Anyway, it just shows that at this point you cant go into the holy chambers and question the high priests in public. Strong community organizations need to form, take the case to the homes and remember this at election and tax levy time.

You are showing totally unrelated videos.

These are the three they are showing...

Elementary level: That's a Family

Middle level: Let's Get Real

High-school level: Straightlaced—How Gender’s Got Us All Tied Up

Now. If you think this is porn, and if you think that kids at these levels aren't already fully aware, at times even in an ugly or generally misinformed way, you are sadly ignorant.

I smell something here, but it's not these films or their intentions.

Why are you exaggerating so badly and straying so very far off topic, even further than WND it seems, to prove some sort of point? It almost seems as if this frightens you?

I'm not going to defend the arrest of that man. But one loony activist and one overreaching cop is not characteristic of our school boards. In fact, as it turns out, the school board did just what this guy wanted.

Of course, the book in question is not pornography. And the arrested man didn't even want the book banned. He felt parents should have been notified that it contained some graphic content, so he could make a decision about whether or not he wanted his child reading the book.

The school district has subsequently apologized for not informing parents. And has changed its policy. Now parents are not only being informed, but such books will require an opt-in rather than opt-out policy, i.e. students have to have signed permission from their parent or guardian to participate in the study of the book.

So the man in the video go what he wanted. And he's continuing to pursue legal action. And I'm sure he'll make money on the right wing lecture circuit.

Democracy can be a bit sloppy ... but as in this case ... it often results in people getting exactly what they want.

Yea you cant really have a man escorted out and arrested like this in front of the most concerned citizens in the community and not expect a backlash. Looks to much like Nazi Germany. By the way the school board wasn't very apologetic at the time of the arrest nor did they seem to care about what parents thought prior. Looks like there was huge outcry and not just "one loony activist" at work.

Kid's at that age don't know anything about sex. Nor do they hate anyone because of it... kid's don't hate, they don't have religious biases, or racial biases, or anything else...There is nothing to teach them for goodness sake.

I was simply addressing your use of the common rhetoric that floats around these issues. Like "phobia", fear ect. It has been very useful to accuse folks of fear to get them to back off but hopefully its had its day.

Democracy isn't always pretty. But it seems that community was able to come to an acceptable solution.

So, as I originally said, there is a range of processes to seek redress. And here we saw them exercised. It got a bit messy, as happens in democracies, but eventually the community came to a solution that looks like it's right for them.

They can continue to teach that and similar books. But parents will be informed. And an opt-in process will be required.
