I just did. My face is straight. Just because they're sinners in the eyes of the overtly religious doesn't mean a damn thing to the rest of the world. Slave drivers were generally very religious, you know.

You know, all these people in this thread are ridiculous at this point. Seriously. It is the parents decision what they will teach their child concerning sex.

You know its funny, but in life I told my kids not to be mean to anyone and that there was nothing in this world that they could not talk to me about. That if they came to me with a problem, no matter how serious that problem was, they would never be punished for it, but honesty was exceedingly important. Because if I found out a thing later on my own, then they WOULD get in trouble.

And you know what? my kids always came to me for everything. There was only one time in my daughters life she didn't come to me, and although I want to blame myself for that it was not my fault she didn't. It just was.

But my kids always had an open door to talk about whatever they needed to talk about. I was open concerning sex, although I never spoke about homosexuality. It was really a non-issue in my opinion - it occurs, but neither did I know anyone who it occurred to so it just wasn't a big priority.

And you know what? My kids grew up normal, they don't hate anyone and are very accepting and kind to all people. They would never be mean to anyone... neither of my kids every had a mean bone in their bodies.

While you may disagree about my not sitting my children down and say some people are homosexual, it was my right to parent the way I choose, and no one can tell me I parented wrong because I didn't say some men or women ##### #### #### . I didn't say the same about heterosexuality either...

Neither grew up messed up, or hating people for being gay, actually they both grew up more understanding of that sort of thing than myself...

That said: Not YOU and not some school will teach my child that sort of thing either. EVER. It is not your place, it is mine... the day you tell me what I HAVE to teach my children and grandchildren concerning YOUR sexuality... is the day you declare war on me, when I and others like me have done you no harm.

Ahahaha I just got "tsk'd". Look up the newly discovered testament of Barnabus. The one where Jesus was not the son of god, merely a prophet whom escaped persecution. The same where it was Judas Iscariot who was crucified and Paul is referred to as "the Impostor". There are more and more discoveries monthly that prove it all as suppositions and BS created at the Council of Nicea. You know, the one where they picked and chose which testaments to include to further their views, altering a great many writings in the process.

this was just not an issue when I was in school. While most parents are trying to keep SEX out of their children's lives as long as possible,

I'd like to know where and WHEN you were in school. I was in school in the 60s and 70s. There were OBVIOUS transgender people in our school. Also OBVIOUS gays. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out!!!

They were SHUNNED - I remember one girl in particular - had a mustache, built like a linebacker, low voice....we all KNEW she was 'different.' I've recently posted a thread about how hurtful 'shunning' is. We may not have been aware of the 'terminology', but we sure as hell knew they were 'different.'

With kids being taught that 'different' does NOT EQUAL OPEN-SEASON VICTIM, those sorts of problems will be eliminated.

There was plenty of persecution without the rounding up of them. Look into that. You'll want to google "beginning of World War 2" then "date of first Nazi political victory" probably followed by "beginnings of Jewish ghettos". You'll notice some inconsistencies with your retort and what actually took place.

And this is the whole point. NOT ALL PARENTS have that mindset.

I'm sure your kids did grow up normal, without hate. Accepting and kind.


The point I've tried to make in this thread is that NOT ALL PARENTS are that focused, intelligent, open, honest, and attentive to their kids. If I had a kid in elementary school now and they came home and told me about this 'tolerance' film, I would say:

"Do you remember when we watched Mr Rogers Neighborhood the other day? And he said that we are all different - some are big, some small, some this, some that - but we are all 'fancy' in our own way. Remember that?"

When my kids were little, they learned to refer to others different from 'The Norm' as "fancy."
No hate.

Anyway - I understand your stance - it was my job to teach my kids about that stuff - and I chose to be open and honest about the names of body parts, physical sensations, differences between males and females (one of each).....

but there was no reason to discuss "intercourse." Ever. Until they were pubescent.

Have you worked with kids?

Yes, "no bullying" would cover it. But that doesn't mean kids aren't aware of the differences between those they "bully." - One is a dork; another wears leg braces; a third has coke-bottle glasses; a fourth is an effeminate boy who blushes a lot; a fifth is a 'mannish' girl; a sixth is a brainiac in marching band.......

It helps, in my opinion, to ask the kids HOW that person seems different, and then talk about WHY that person seems different, and WHY it makes them (the bully) feel uncomfortable....and also how they imagine the 'bullied kid' feels.

Always try to help the kid see the other person's perspective. .... Kids aren't stupid.
"How would you feel if...?" is a very powerful teaching topic.

I'm afraid the first time you say the word "Gay" to a bunch of boys...

They are going to try and hang that label on somebody. Right or wrong.

Pointing out we are all different in unique and special ways is effective.

I always use how would you feel. I think at School we should focus on other things.

It's a tough issue no matter how you approach it. We all have the same goal.

Just a little different approach.

I have to add this, and I have posted it before, my youngest daughter is 26, in high school being gay was in and quite a few of her girl friends were gay, now they are married with children.

My oldest son now thirty always said he didnt try drugs untill he was introduced to them in class.

Really? I was in high school in the 70s - and we definitely had some "strange" kids.

Oh well. Maybe I was just more acutely aware of people's demeanors and feelings and what they projected with their clothing, behavior, etc.

Thats stupid claim. You can be teached or learned to do desired things. For example, take 1000 straight people and show them every homosexual act like in porn movies, and my default, you will get new people who want to get it in a$$.

So teaching children about gays, just makes more of them gays.
