Fed Up With Michelle Obama’s School Lunch Overhaul

While there's absolutely no way anyone could convince the people on this board not to absolutely HATE everything that even remotely has to do with this first family. (hell, most of these people believe that the president was born in Kenya for crying out loud)

There is a real easy way to refute or confirm this.

It's online for everyone to see.

Of course if it's bad and can be painted with a wide brush on this administration, some people will believe anything!

I used to eat in the cafeteria. We didn't get served crap like that.

The MO lunch program looks like it is running as successfully as the ObamaCare rollout.

If the cafeteria at your school is serving crud, it has nothing to do with Michelle Obama and everything to do with your local school board. I can tell you what they will say: they don't have enough money to provide food that is both healthy and appetizing. Of course, since you are so concerned about the food served in your school's cafeteria, I am sure you will lead the charge to raise taxes to pay for them.

you are talking to people that are on a political rant against Obama. telling them that it has more to do with their local school boards, as well as their local governments, spoils their narrative. you will not get through to them

It's about the caloric restrictions which were imposed. They laid severe limits on how much of the meal can be protein and how much must be vegetable/fruit with a very tight upper limit on the meal as a whole.

The problem is that while the limit might be appropriate for an average adult, these are not average adults. Some of them are athletically active kids. For them, this is a starvation diet and not healthy for their needs at all. But they're caught up in this one size fits all mentality.

My sister has three boys, and her two oldest love fruit and vegetables, but even so, they come home hungry every ... single ... day. What they get can't even hold them over until supper with a modest snack.

And you can say pack their lunch, but increasing schools are either banning sack lunches or policing them to make sure they "comply" and are healthy enough.

All First Ladies pick a "cause" during their husbands term(s).

Laura Bush chose literacy programs.

But unlike Laura Bush, who didn't tell children WHAT kind of books to read, Michelle Obama chose a program that enabled her to endorse a program to tell what kind of foods to eat.

The schools here charge $180 per half of school year (once before winter break, once after) to pay for the crappy Obamateria food for your kid, and you aren't allowed to send your own food with them..

I've been looking around at various opinion sites with some pretty damning photographs of this program. I am shocked.

What I didn't see was anything contrary to the substance of the OP. And, I didn't find how much MO's cause cost the taxpayer or if the ROI is being met. On a positive note, the conservative base will have a far easier time recruiting from the pool of this emerging generation. I can hear it now, "Hey ... you guys remember which party was responsible for your lunch menu back when you were in school?"

FWIW, they shut down the cafeteria at my kid's school some years back. I was quite surprised by that decision, but by then my kids were graduated and gone. I'll have to ask some of the guys from the office about this tomorrow.

I wonder what poisons they put in our children's food? [GMO, Fluoride etc.]

I wonder why they are put there? [mind control, population control etc.]

I wonder who is responsible? [1st Lady, Monsanto, parents etc.]

I wonder when, where and how often the school food is tested for poisons?

I wonder when a large majority of people will feed and home school their children in self sufficiency and avoid the poisonous infection of the nanny state into the family unit

My son went to DoD schools until we decided to home-school, so I don't really have any skin in the game, as far as what schools determine for lunch.

What I find insane are the schools that deny children the right to bring lunches from home!

I do not mean to be politically biased in any way here...but heres my take on the first lady having anything to do with how our country runs: They were not elected to any office, they do not have any power via the constitution, nor via the people that voted their husband in. They should never be taking vacations on the tax-payers dime unless they are accompanying the President who was elected, certainly not extended family ie her mom, I can of course understand children.

The office of President is a role of public service, we pay them 400k a year, thats plenty of money to be able to budget their own family vacations, the only added expense should be the presidents security and thats it. The office isnt supposed to be winning the lottery its supposed to be about service and management of the Nation. I dont give a rats patooty about what any marriage partner to the President has to say regarding my personal choices as who the hell are they? For that matter the President shouldnt be involved in our personal lives at all outside the context of that which is required to run the country. All of these philosophical federal mandates are supposed to be taking place at a state level.

We have totally lost our bearings. Michelles opinion just as Laura Bushes, are just that, and shouldnt mean a damn thing to any of us outside of another opinion. So why in the hell does she have anything to do with our school unch program? What are her credentials? Does she have a degree in nutrition, dietetics, Naturopathy? What gives, I had to go to school and study Oriental Medicine to practice in my line of work. So if my wife is elected president, should I have a hand in deciding the future regulations regarding how fast cars should be allowed to go on the highway?

This world, especially this country has gone far off the beaten path, and Michelle having anything to do with how my child is raised is ridiculous, much less how she is fed. She holds NO OFFICE WHAT SO EVER.

There was a thread about this a long time ago about this scrappy lunch program, the bottom line is more and more schools are dropping the program because they the school's are loosing money since the kids are not eating the food.

Example, my kids tried it but where coming home stuffing their faces, the so called lunches are proportionally served by age, also the food is tasteless. I went to lunch with my kids looked at the menus figured brats, Apple crisp, whole wheat bun bun sounded good, but it was not, the brat was some white tasteless thing that I would not call a brat it was boiled, the bun was some flat wheat bread thing and the Apple crisp was sliced apples in ice.

I asked the principal of the school when was the last time he ate with the kids, he said he packs his own lunch. Asking my kids how many other teachers eat with the kids he replied none.

Bottom line the price for lunches gone up, the kids get half the amount of food, the school's are paying more to use the programs vendors for the food and they are loosing money, you will hear about the farm program for schools but the school's say they can't afford them but they can afford to buy skim milk for the kids but not whole milk, or chocolate milk.

There are more and more schools dropping the program because they are seeing the negative effects on the kids. Ask around talk to the kids or your school, you will find your answers, the school's will be hard to get a strait answer.

I agree. I was fine with her until she started moving her cause into the realm of actual regulation. No one gave her the authority to do that. I don't recall her name on the ballot.

Imagine the outcry if Laura Bush had started telling the Dept. of Ed. to mandate certain amounts of time for reading and selecting the books that would be read?

And this is another problem - All the kids know this is about getting them to eat healthy and now for many the healthy food they are exposed to tastes like crap when it doesn't have to. How many of those kids are going to ever want to eat healthy again?

I've been overseas about a quarter of a century. I assume you've done your fair share of time beyond our borders yourself. I think people can knock our dietary standards, but other countries can hardly compare themselves to the physical stature of Americans anymore. I see more and more warriors who dwarf me @ 6'1" at an ever increasing pace. How can this be bad? Who is MO to try and reduce this trend?

I don't think American kids would be so darned fat if they got out of the house like we did when I was a child.

And, I think OpinionatedB nailed something on page 1: What's really healthy about what is being served. Something definitely seems to be missing, doesn't it?

Ok, here's the thing, "The Blaze" is Glenn Beck's personal garbage dump for all hate against the left. So, to use that site as the SOLE reference to this is absolutely stupid.

You can go look up your local school lunch menu and decide for yourself if this is bullcrap or not.

It's really got to be a sad existence to live in a life where you wake up every single day, turn on FOX News, be told what to think and who to hate, and then have reality come down on you like a ton of bricks nearly EVERY SINGLE TIME!
