Iran's Moral Police Crack Down on Pet Dogs

Accrording to Islamic doctrine, dogs are unclean, hence Islamic leaders take a very dim view of Muslims owing dogs.

The Iranian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty Against Animals (SPCA) says that 20 pet dogs were recently arrested in a park in Tehran.

The dogs were reportedly being walked by their owners in the Pardisan park last week when security forces took the canines away and transferred them to what appears to be a detention center.

Dogs are considered dirty by Iranian clerics, who have denounced dog ownership as morally corrupt. In recent years, police officials have issued warnings against dog owners.

Dog owners and their pets have been harassed, detained, and forced to pay fines. That hasn't stopped Iranians in Tehran and other big cities from keeping dogs as pets, however.

One woman who owns a small terrier told RFE/RL that dog ownership is becoming increasingly difficult in Iran.

"It's ridiculous," she said. "Instead of solving people's economic problems, the [authorities] harass us for having dogs."

In the UK, a problem exists with Muslim taxi drivers refusing to carry guide dogs in their cars.

Its just their culture.

I dont like dogs much either. They are dumb compared to a cat. And they are dirty.

In China they eat dogs. In some places you can eat a horse.

Inuits eat whale and I would like to see Greenpeace jerks try to stop them. The Japanese like whale and I am happy for them.

Cultures are different. People are different.

This is so rediculous. I love dogs, have two, they are my babies.

So many problems in the world and they are worried about pets..... stupid...

Actually, you are mistaken that dogs are dumb compared to cats. Have you taught your cats any good tricks recently?

Any animal that demands you walk it 3 times a day, while having to pick up it's poo in a little plastic bag along the way, can never gain my true affection.

I said culture not religion.

And I agree with them. Dogs are unclean. So are pigs. Seems that they have very good hygiene in Iran.

Cats dont do tricks because its beneath them

They also dont chase cars or bark at lawnmowers or a million other dumb things dogs do.

You can also leave a cat for two weeks and it will feed itself.

Dogs are just dirty inbred morons at the end of the day.

Edit- I used to own a Staffie that I got for my ex-girlfriends son. He wasnt the best dog owner so the dog became mine. I loved it. I like dogs sort of but they really are dirty. And cats are smarter.

That in no way makes it ok. In some peoples culture they eat human beings. Now I know almost nobody thinks that is ok. Heck the Aztecs or Mayans sacrificed some 50,000 people in one day for the opening of a new temple. That is definitely not justifiable under the guise of tradition or culture. I believe in progression and moving past our barbaric actions. And as far as when making an argument I ask for consistency.

Edit: Aslo, I find it funny that you said in some places they eat horse. Well in America I know horse meat is a common ingredient in dog food

do you know how many times dogs have saved peoples lifes?
start with ww1
then read how many americans were saved by dogs during vietnam

Sadly enough, Culture has become on of the last things I respect. Most of it relies on traditions from the past that are bigoted, immoral, and outdated. Im not racist but I am definitely a culuralist lol.
