Thanks. I did say in my Op that there's more in the article on skynews.

The big question here is: so what do we do about it? Everyone who has posted have good points.

1) Nothing is made to last anymore. Corporations figured out that they make more money by putting a life limit on their products.

2) Curbing population growth. I aimed for 2 kids, with the intent of just replacing ourselves. My body decided twins were in order my last pregnancy. I “selfishly” kept both babies. How do we handle that? Make moms choose to abort multiples? Who would be in charge of the culling? Who wants to go to India or Africa and sterilize people? It’s easy to say “Stop population growth!” The actual process of stopping it is horrific to imagine.

3) Deforestation and pollution - those are doable. Everyone do their part. That being said, how do we stop corporations and governments who only see the bottom line; to hell with every one else.

Listen, I agree that we need to save our rock whizzing through space. My question is So what are we going to realistically do about it. Give people solutions instead of statistics.

I trust that all these scientists have made sure that they have no children, do not own cars and only consume the absolute minimum in resources?

As a childless, non driver who only has the tiniest amount of self generated income on which to survive. Im getting sick of people trying to guilt trip me over my lifestyle.

When someone leads by example I may be more inclined to respond.

As soon as you start to point at people with giant families, who waste resources and consume endless unnecessary products, all you get back is moral indignation and "who the hell are you to tell others what to do?".

I'm already doing my bit.

I also don't have any children and I don't drive. Anyhow I'm not saying people must stop completely having children, I'm saying people need to stop having so many children.

i for one think all that promote population control, they should be the first ones to put their money where there mouth is and step up and volunteer to be culled, sterilized, or go on ration control.

especially the old useless eaters, and the young ones who can breed.

that there would show me that they are truly concerned for planet and the future of mankind.
if your not willing to do that then shut up and stop pushing this. if this is that important to you, if your not willing to sacrifice your life for the cause, then your a hypocrite. put your money where your mouth is.

YOU will be an old useless eater one day, are you ready to sacrifice ?

i'm not pushing to limit the population neither. as a matter of fact i'm just fine with the worlds population.

how did you get that i'm for population control from what i wrote? might want to brushes up on those comprehension skills a bit.

Yes, you did. I just thought while I was looking it up, I could share the additional info I found.

Thanks for making the thread!

It's you again.

You alwqays tell me there is loads of room for the populace but I still have to disagree.

one of the many factors is water & food. We need it to survive and res is running low. We need Forests to survive and that is running low. We can't keep raping the World of it's nature or we will die out and as i said 'certain people' have too many children. It can't continue.

the more population there is, the more res we will use... and it continues on and on. It can't keep continuing on and on.

Going by the UN and every other recognized body that can speak to that, world birth rates are in decline.

In the developed world we now NEED immigration thanks to all the effort in making us not compete for global wealth shares.

The wealthy kids now dont have to compete with us, only the third world that will control most global wealth in 20-40 years.

I wasn't criticising you OP.
These scientists always like to point at people being the problem when, in fact, its the management of resources that is the real problem.

As others have pointed out, the greedy few at the top delude themselves that they deserve a life of luxury while condemning those who are less fortunate.

So, you think birth rates are in decline? They aren't... just go on holiday to a few African & Asian countries and you'll see. They are increasing at a rapid rate and btw they are now doing this in Europe.

Yeh I agree with you completely , no one wants to take into consideration the future of our species , the future of our homeworld.

It's not as if its a mystery , humans could easily be wiped out , and what are we doing about it , nothing absolutely nothing.
We havent even established an off world colony in case we are wiped out.

We are failing as a species, we are so wrapped up in ego and materialism that we care less about our survival and more about luxury in the present.

Profit before people model will be our downfall.
We need to find harmony with nature again, and that means living for the future rather than the present and ensuring we have everything now, but to ensure we gift everything to the future.

We need to get our eggs out of the same basket for a start

we need to fix our energy, food and population problems first before we fix our social rights and "me me me" society

This is fun! I'm like bouncing up and down with glee!

I love this topic! It's a perfect example of doom porn. Some snake-oil scientists sitting on the street corner of life singing the %sky is falling...the sky is falling!!!...and there's no hope% with a coffee can out in front of them labeled "research grant donations please"

I love it!!

Can we do this all day??? Huh, can we, can we???

Wow, that's an excellent point. Built to fail, or built to facilitate buying another. What a twisted culture we've created.

We are not over-populated. We over buy, over-consume and don't utilize resources to any decent standard of ability.

UK Population (2017) According to the Office of National Statistics latest estimates, the UK population is 65,110,000 people.

In the year 2000 it was 58,867,004.

That's an increase of several million in 17 years. Most of which is Immigration and those bring their families and have more children once here..

We can't continue like this and these stats are only in the UK. What's it like for the rest of the World over those 17 years?

I have no children so why should I? And I didn't say to STOP altogether now did I?

Well my three kids use birth control. There is one biological grandchild and one adopted. That's all I get.

The government we have now, the destroyers, do not promote birth control.

Those scientists don´t need to warn the humanity, the humanity knows about the problem.

The scientists need to warn those that could change anything, the greedy one`s, the corporations, their henchmen, lobbyist cortrolled puppets called "politicians". Those that put money and power over everything else, those that pray to these, their only gods.

But i am sure that they are aware too, but they don`t care!
Profit, money, power über alles!
"After me, the deluge" über alles!

Those that could change anything in the world, maybe even to a better, don´t care for the world and it´s people. They just care for themselves and for their own class, for their wealth! For profits, money and power!

To be honest, this ruling class is a disease and the world is suffering from it!

Room to live in, between 20 and 30 % of earths surface is desert, depending on which site you ask, it would be nice if we all lived in the deserts, so all the good arable land now built on could be productive, I don't want to live in a bloody hot desert.
Food, more than enough is being produced, storage and distribution is the problem some years ago I read of India producing so much wheat it had to be stored on the road side, as there was no where else for the tonnage, the wheat rotted.
America feeds itself and the world, so long as they can pay for the wheat.
America and Canada are virtually empty of people, so no need for those two great nations to live in a desert.
Russia is 49 % forested, also virtually empty of people, Australia, fantastic place, 25 million people, also nearly empty, roughly the same area as the USA. Room everywhere I look, just no infrastructure for storage and distribution.

Yes, there's room but NOT enough resources. This is THE problem. And to create more resources you need to kill off more forests... it can't keep going on like this.

Where do you want these people to live? You have to build more houses to house these people and then you need more resources to keep the houses. it's a cycle that can't continue or there will be nothing left at all, just buildings everywhere and our atmosphere will be non-breathable like Mars.

That is definitely true except it doesn't say that on the label.

Why do you think Windows XP was no longer going to be updated? So people had to either go and buy a new computer or go and buy the upgrade to windows.

Wow...really? So your smug little world is all peaches and cream now, huh? You got what YOU wanted. Now you get to be the one casting stones.

Yeah, I get it. It's those guy's fault (over there). Those despicable republicans, right? Any opportunity to throw rocks, regardless of the subject; seize upon it....it's the right's fault!

Question for you...do you actually believe birth control was created as a population control mechanism, that population control was the underpinning premise???
