From what I can tell of history, america lost its way when it lost its unique form a capitalism. The Rockefellers and Vanderbilts. They did what they did fearlessly and included the whole nation and created jobs. The whole point was to WIN. That was good for the whole country. Now the capitalist wants guarantees and government intervention when they fail. And when they fail, they have brainwashed us into believing it is the fault of all kinds of groups of human beings but theirs, wall street.

This is a really great post. Well thought out and in all pretty much on the money....but why? We know the people have no intentions of changing anything. If they did I would think to say that it would have been done by now. So I find myself wondering why this post? And then can anything really be done at this point to bring about change? Yes I would venture to say so, but what might that be, I'm not quite certain. I do believe that deep down we all have some idea of some of the things we may look forward to, so at this point I sit and just ponder the whole of all , and wait for leaders somewhere to make there moves, whatever they may turn out to be. But as you have said America has no one to blame but themselves, what a legacy on such a people as Americans!

There is a big difference in the public of America and the Politicians of America. In case you have not cought on yet. or have noticed that Americans have been stirring issues with this NSA crap. It has already been proven that other countries has been helping to spy on you from Canada to the UK.
AND BTW I belong to many rights groups If you think they set this up to be a easy fight your head is up further up your A%* then what i thought. You should travel a little more and you can see that US is in top 20 countries about standard , economy , life longevity, individual freedom etc etc.If you dont like it than leave or replace your citizenship with someone who wants to live in US. 80 % of World population desperately wants your place.It's holidays , be positive at least once in the year.

If americans travelled a bit more they would see that they really are not.. it's true that people from 3rd world countries want your place, but that is only because americans have higher sallaries. NOT because you are, "more free" than other free people. I live well enough where I am.. I go to college and don't have to worry about being $200 000 in debt when i finish. when I get, for example, a cut on my arm.. I don't have to pay 500$ for stitches.

Your Constitution is still a world leader and your history, although shallow in years has depth in its breadth and has crammed a lot in since 1766.

The statue in NY harbour meant so much to so many, a beacon of hope for the oppressed and a lot of your countrymen gave their lives in successive wars to enshrine all of this into the cultural racial mix that is USA.

Many times I have visited your country, I love it and it's true people of all colours and creeds, so hospitable, the deep history of the South, for all it's problems with slavery, still holds a fascination and the traditions of the Gullahs and the Geechees have left a footprint on the Lowcountries that you should be eager and proud to acknowledge, but unless you have been there to see for yourself and speak with them you will not even begin to understand what Mitchelville, Hilton Head Island, SC was all about.

What was the Civil War about, more than power and $'s, it was about freedom for goodness sake. Why are you sleepwalking, your country still has so much to offer despite your current problems. Look at the housing that was provided in Washington State recently for the homeless that had previously been moved on by the police. The churches gave them some sanctuary and eventually some subsidised housing made available. It's a chink of light breaking through a dark curtain.

Don't waste the opportunity folks, springboard, ATS is not just a talking shop and TPTB do sometimes react to public opinion - it's on ATS, it must be true!

I should think a real citizen who loves their country would take action to fix things and/or call attention to the problems rather than pack up and move.

I think the love it or leave it style rhetoric is a bit disengenuine an we can love our country but at the same time want some changes to happen.

call attention to the problems??.......you got FOX NEWS doing that every friggin' day, websites, blogs, newspapers, constant drumbeat of people telling me how bad our government is and knowing exactly how to correct it.

What to do?
I would 1st declare a national emergency and nationalize buisness and industry to pivot and focus on infrastructure recovery. I would repurpose the DHS to become Department of Health and Science so scientists can find jobs outside of the military industrial complex.All federal law enforcement will be under the FBI all of it.The FBI will handshake with local LEOs to see that existing laws are enforced. DHS 1st project will be to develop high rise farms for large cites to include research into replacements for chemicals that are used in food with replacements that will not kill someone. Education will be restructured to the individual,enough of this BS production line We will also have another year of education ,senior capstone.Here you will be placed in a job and a studio residence.For the first month you will be supervised.the idea here is to get you the ability to survive on your own.
Jobs will be found in revergent industries. The legal system will be required to correct the error of elitism aka all preceedings will spoken in the common tonge. Violent criminal s will get hard labor. Thieves have to work to pay their victims who ,so long as they are found to be truthful,will be the primary focus. Adultery is a civil crime against your spouse ,enough of this rampant behavior outside of wedlock.If you want out divorce.
The medical system will immediately restructure to cure,they will fall under the DHS banner as well as the department of interior where uninhabited areas will be developed,Death Valley comes to mind. I bet some folks from Japan will need some homes soon.
Our military will need to restructure to become a more effective defensive force it will be kept at cold war strength.
The Draft will now include employment in infrastructure and science.
The idea is rebuild production industry and put in place trade laws to support it.
Goods will be durable and modularized cars are a piece by piece deal. No more disposable tech or hardwareThe environment requires it. Recycling will done correctly and landfills will begin to reclaim all non toxic refuse we can POSSIBLY repurpose.

That's MY suggestion.

I agree with this and this obviously being the only thing they understand.
Some more lives will have to be sacrificed. I'm willing if I'm sure it will not be in vain.

Please differentiate between Americans and America. Americans would be the civilians living in the USA, America would be the the great business power of government, oil, banks, a large portion of the people behind the wheel and behind the desks controlling the poor bastards dong what they're told or face court martial or more. I really don't see this scale of escalation continuing before SOMETHING snaps. The old timers that stand behind EVERYTHING AMERICA does are slowly dropping like flys. When the next generation (X) takes there place, there will be no AMERICANS to take this submissive position.
Please do not think I stand behind many of our past presidents but, there is little arguement against the opinion that no president prior to Obama had f'd things up anywhere NEAR this mess we have now.

Seeing that our Country is not that, does not make me anti american, or make me hate America, It makes me a Citizen who loves his country but has his eyes wide open.

You would think that if our motto was as such that it would be a staple and foundation that we build our children through institutions.....institutions, what an interesting word. There's not much bravery here. For every one brave American there are countless cowards.

We are taught to be cowards. We are not taught to do anything for ourselves, like babies flailing about in this world. There is no freedom to speak of here either, in fact there never was. Even that is an illusion written in history books by the victors. Or every generation speaks well about the generation prior but even than was pretty #ty.

Our entire history is riddled with war and pillaging for as long as history is written. If it's not the US its someone else and that's the truth. If the mightiest nation became "loving" another nation would fill that void. I got to admit, I'm pretty ashamed to be human.

Truth! In my 30 or so years, I have never once seen an American commit an act of bravery. Sorry, but it's true.

Remember, babies: It's all marketing. All that stuff you heard about America, those are all ad slogans. Public relations. Don't believe the hype.

If I ever meet a brave American outside of my mirror, I'll let you guys know. Til then, America's slogans remain as either blatantly cynical feel-good marketing, or secretly sarcastic.

This is where capitalism + democracy has gotten us. It's a really sickening combination of money and popularity ruling everything. Does that REALLY sound like a good idea to anyone??? Money and mob rule???
