See the movie, Hair. They had long hair, not dreadlocks. I liked when they crashed the rich elitist party and told the rich guy off, good fun. Yes they were flawed, but so were the ones that didn't like them. Cool is only an opinion, maybe hipsters are today's hippie, but not everyone thinks they are cool.

Is that the movie where a hippie is tied to a wire mesh fence and then they place a live electrical wire on to fry him?
Could never remember the name of that movie
A clear example of the golden age passed

Im still waiting for reply to my previous question posted

why do hippies think they so cool. ?

Why does anyone think they are 'so cool'? Most seem to. How could this idea possibly be placed on hippies as if they own it. It's practically human nature to be full of yourself. One thinks their movie taste is superb, music taste is sophisticated, their opinions are right, their fashion sense is hip, etc, and do so all the while comparing it to others. Everyone's so cool.

Theres a lot of Hippies in this thread and I have been very courteous to them, despite all their jabs. What more can I say?

You have a very intriguing version of courteousness and 'not' poking jabs.

Here is some jabs you've made and your 'courteousness'.

people who live in the dirt

a Hippie always avoids any responsibility

they are really very materialistic people

You still a hippie doing a little ego moon dance around a camp fire in forrest called your ego.

hippies are great at this [soap box rants] that's why they make natural politicians and actors

Have your Hippy dreaclocks made you blind

they are so opinionated and self righteous.

never trust a Hippie from a wealthy background, etc, etc

generally lazy day dreamers

This is a general chit chat about hippies and please tell me how any statement I made above wasn't essentially true.

It's Christmas Eve and I have a few dishes to prep for. So I leave you with your belief you were not making jabs and others were jabbing you. You're welcome to it friend.

As for refuting the truthfulness of your claims. Way too fallacious and hyperbolic to be taken seriously.

Every statement you made is factually untrue in that list. But, I think maybe you're just a tad jealous of free spirits and questioning minds. You always longed for a childhood of picking huckleberries in the woods, skinning dipping in the lakes and witnessing many political, sociological, science and conspiracy discussions growing up, and all the campfires. Twas fun, for many years. Natural, free and intellectual haven all the same time.

They didn't wear deadlocks in those days. More long curls, short ripped out cutoffs, lots didn't shave, and some baggy clothes. Some of them did name their children moonchild however. And my hippy dad was the head of the local ndp party for a bit and actually got them elected for one term in the conservative okanagan by strategy.

Even those of us who grew up in the 70's benefited from the Hippie era.

The good vibes and attitudes trickled down.

Great music, creative people, funky designs and styles.. people enjoying themselves.. people feeling good. It affected the culture in every aspect.

If you ask me, it was partly - the consciousness altering things they used to ingest, but also the culture of that time. Commercialism had not yet reached the height it is at today, destroying the culture.

Whatever the case, it was a great time (for some people)..

Happy Hippie Xmas!

I saw Hair twice, once in Toronto....and once in Detroit.

Yeah, I was a hippie, too.
Been a long trip.....between then and now.
The music was awesome......in fact listening to Pink Floyd right now

Finally a concession, of a spoilt kid with pampered life. Let me guess you then were given a Yale education in the humanities, and married a lawyer from a wealthy family.

I was a preteen in the 70s and can remember there was a lot of colours about and did have some hippy teachers in primary school. The hippies were basically everywhere. Now they are in the minority and replaced by new age Yuppies.

Aha! An aha moment. You got everything you needed to confirm and validate your preconceived notions about hippies. Well done sir! Congrats. It's wondrous how simple and effective that is. One can make sense of anything this way! All one needs is an idea, and the susceptible mind will manufacture the proof even if it's not really there! Brilliant.
