But this guy! This guy give me hope! I've been following him very closely ever since he was elected. An act, which I'm sure, the bishops very much regret now! While some of the things he's done are simply nice, some of them are pretty groundbreaking considering the history of the papacy.

YEAH!!!

THIS GUY!!!!

Halleluia. A real, compassionate, down-to-earth fella. I think he's awesome. And I'm not a Catholic.
Good for you for saying he's given you hope. Me, too, friend. Me, too.

Star for you.

Dear ooMoo,

Have you ever been in love? I don't mean the sex kind, but the head-over-heels, writing poetry, picking flowers for her, kind?

People do those things because they're in love. If she happens to mention, in a passing remark, that she enjoys the Beatles, that kind of lover will get her a box set as soon as he can.

It's the same with us and God. We don't do it for any other reward then to please Him and be with Him eternally after this life. After all, don't lovers say "I want to be with you forever?"

With respect,
Charles1952

Of course this now begs the question why on Earth you would want to spend all of eternity grovelling at the feet of a God, singing him songs and worshiping him when he resides over a world with so much pain and suffering (in all of his animals), yet he chooses to do nothing about it while having the power stop it?

I'm sure you haven't really thought about it properly. I personally could think of nothing worse.

Dear ooMoo,

That's really the fundamental question isn't it? Who is to be worshiped? God or Man. Feel free to choose either one. You don't want to be with God eternally? Fine, you don't have to be. I don't actually recommend the alternative, but it's your call. He can't force you to choose. You've got time yet. At least, I suppose you do. We never really know, do we?

Well, best of luck to you. I think I'll toss up a prayer for you tonight.

With respect,
Charles1952

I'm not a Catholic but this Pope inspires me with his kindness and humility. He gives to give. Just amazing, such an example for humanity.

I hope I have got this picture right.. Just after another pope was shot dead. This one was visiting England. So his security must have checked out SIR jimmy savile
Yet this child raping monster was allowed to escort the pope on his tour of the UK. This is why I have no confidence in these people. He was not sneaking about in the dark with this PAPAL knight.
Perhaps Francis is the real thing but I doubt it.

Yep. He had a job as a bouncer and a job as a janitor.
And I think his family worked railroads in South America.
He loves soccer and 'traditional' music.
He has a diploma (degree?) in chemistry.
Pope Francis also has just one lung, he lost the other one at age 21 of illness.
As Cardinal he worked for civil unions for homosexuals in his country.
He has always worked for dialog between different groups (catholic, protestant, Muslim, Jew etc)
He has always lived simply ... in an apartment rather than Cardinals Mansion, for example.
HIs favorite saint is St. Therese of Lisieux. She was a simple loving saint who died young.

Pope Francis Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Argentina’s House of Representatives has passed a resolution to nominate Pope Francis for the Nobel Peace Prize for his call to end the violence in Syria, reports Ucanews.

The resolution was passed by an overwhelming majority and now goes to the Senate for ratification.

Representative Oscar Martinez, who sponsored the resolution, described Pope Francis as 'a man who throughout this year has been decisive in maintaining international peace through his clear position regarding the conflict in Syria.'

I think the dark side would be after him just for trying to reform the curia, let alone his position on the war in Syria.

I think the Pope would deserve the Nobel Peace Prize more than President Obama did when it was awarded to him.

why does he need to sneak out at all?

does the church forbid this?

wouldn't it be more efficient if it was organized with more people?

does he think this is the smartest way to help people?

Well that much I didn't known about him.. I take back my peace prize statement, I think he deserves this indeed more then Obama did.. well maybe Obama should give his prize also to the pope as to good faith to the US .. but then again some say he's moslim and christian so every outcome should be unsure. .
Atleast he could honor his words and really CHANGE the US in teaching methods in the line of work the pope does. .

Do you think the Pope could go out and help individuals alone, without his entourage, without sneaking out?

The church does not forbid helping the poor, in fact the church regularly does just that. Sometimes people (Popes included) want to do charitable things themselves, personally, without seeking recognition for the act of charity.

The church already has organized charity efforts...the Pope appears to be doing this in addition to these ongoing official efforts.

Seeking recognition for charitable acts does not honor the gift, it honors the giver. By not seeking attention for the act of giving, he honors that act as a genuine act of kindness and not as a way to further aggrandize himself. It's not who gives the gift that is important...it is the fact that the gift was given in the first place.

Maybe hes the resurrected soul of Saint Nicolas. .

One legen tells how during a terrible famine, a malicious butcher lured three little children into his house, where he killed them, placing their remains in a barrel to cure, planning to sell them off as ham. Saint Nicholas, visiting the region to care for the hungry, not only saw through the butcher's horrific crime but also resurrected the three boys from the barrel by his prayers. Another version of this story, possibly formed around the eleventh century, claims that the butcher's victims were instead three clerks who wished to stay the night. The man murdered them, and was advised by his wife to dispose of them by turning them into meat pies. The Saint saw through this and brought the men back to life.[citation needed]In his most famous exploit,[27] a poor man had three daughters but could not afford a proper dowry for them. This meant that they would remain unmarried and probably, in absence of any other possible employment, would have to become prostitutes. Hearing of the girls' plight, Nicholas decided to help them, but being too modest to help the family in public (or to save them the humiliation of accepting charity), he went to the house under the cover of night and threw threepurses (one for each daughter) filled with gold coins through the window opening into the house.

Now called Santa Claus and still saint Nicolas in Europe

He's rather famous. If he goes out quietly then he can minister to people one-on-one without all the trappings around him and without the cameras. It makes sense.

Just a thought. It may be only partially for those he helps. Remember, kneeling down to wash others' feet does something for the kneeler, as well as those washed.

In the same way that a runner needs to run in order to be a good runner, a servant needs to serve to be a good servant.

Its not so secret though, is it?

In fact, they've even made a bigger deal out of it than if it had been done like other church functions.

So much for not honoring the giver, huh.

Too much drama.
