I don't think it was a Bold Orion, but rather something like this ASM-135 ASAT, which has been launched (albeit back in the '80s) from a modified F-15 to successfully take down a satellite via direct impact. The ARROW missile tested today isn't designed as an offensive system, but rather a more advanced version of the Patriot, and as a show of force it's far more likely intended to deter Iranian launches at Israel than be used to deliver any kind of EMP warhead.

They tested the system at least one other time that I am aware of. Was there an issue with the system, or a recent upgrade or some maintenance done that would make them want to check it?
