North Korea Threatens 'Merciless' Retaliation

We can say all we want about these 'evil' countries, but in the end all these countries are linked to one specific country. Doesn't matter what continent it is or even Island, one country is always involved and some way some how no one sees this.

Theres plenty of missile power in NK.....
They can take down SK and parts of Japan, as well as a possible strike on Alaska....if nowhere else.....
The chances of a NK attack are about 15% but could be rising.....
The Nks maybe small but they are some very fanatically mean mo fos....
I wouldnt want to kung foo with those NK rangers.....
They take military training to spec forces levels....
They have mini subs too, as well as other specialised weapons systems.....
The real for sure is no matter who starts it, a whole lot of people are gonna get killed before its over....

It's like one guy siad on here during the failed rocket launch. We have to give the North Koreans credit for the first underwater satelite

NK need to back their sh* down otherwise one of two things is going to happen... 1) They follow up on their words with action and the US/UN come down on them like a load of bricks and topple the entire regime 2) The US decides to take them at their word and launch a pre-emptive strike before an invasion or nuclear launch takes place..and the regime gets toppled. Either way running their mouths and constantly escalating their threats is only going to end badly for them.

I feel sorry for the NK population. When the inevitable happens there's going to be millions of starving, heavily brainwashed people suddenly with so much freedom they won't know what to do. No-one to tell them where to work, what to eat, who to follow, no real industry to speak of, no social services to help the country recover, no money, no jobs and the realization that everything they have been told their entire life is a complete lie. For alot of them it really is going to feel like the world just ended :/

Why hide behind pleasantries? Just say it. Why we "invaded" Korea, why we still "occupy" Korea. Sounds nicer the way you say it though. We are only "in" Korea.

Why we "occupy" Korea Is to maintain a foot hold on the Asian continent. Militarily its real important considering we lost that other one, ummm... Vietnam? I'll bet if you survey them, they will tell you good riddance.

Ramping up rhetoric to demonize a country or its leaders is really a weak excuse to maintain an illusion of superiority. MSM been doing it a lot lately. And guess what, it bleeds over to ATS with the same droll: Bad President and WMD. Really? WMD ! WMD !

We're in south korea per the request of their government to assist them in defense of a nutjob country that has repeatedly tried to attack SK over the years. Yeonpyeong island, four dead and 19 injured. The south showed great restraint and could have retaliated back with justified force but stood down. They've put up with enough of their crap and i wouldn't blame them one bit for asking for help in defense.

Nothing will come of north korea. It's not a question of if, it's a question of when it will collapse.

Have you seen the numbers of US troops in South Korea? 28,000 men spread across all four branches, combat and non-combat, against 9.4 million active, reserve and paramilitary soldiers. They could literally march en masse, rifles in hand, from the DMZ to Seoul and would take the peninsula before we could get mobilized. You can do things like that when you don't care about attrition. I don't recall which book i read it from (some military fiction novel) but the author made the remark that the guys stationed at the DMZ would be barely a speed bump. It could have been Tom Clancy, but i'm a bit foggy.

No, we are there because we have been asked. If the S. Koreans didn't want us there you'd hear about it. The south actually *has* free speech. I don't like our soldiers overseas, but I am glad they are in Korea. They need to be.

The situation is definately escalating...toss in the story of the missing subs, and it's a little worry some.

Not sure as to the validity of that site, but it makes very scary reading. However, would NK be able to miniaturise the warheads to fit on torpedo's? And would the US have "lost" them? I thought the US could pretty much track anything, even the ultra quiet stuff

Once they have powered up their batteries, the submarines can sail to the bottom of coastal waters and remain undetected for days. Though they can't travel long distances or sail very quickly, advancements in technologies, such as air-independent propulsion and fuel cells, have allowed diesel submarines to extend theft operational ranges underwater.

Sounds to me like the US navy cannot, although they do have to pop up for air every 4-10 days, but you only need one to escape the net, and the tech to attach a low tech atom bomb to a torpedo was around at the beginning of the 1950s...

Critical to note about North Korea’s CHT-02D torpedo, this MOD bulletin warns, is that it is capable of being armed with a small nuclear device similar to that of the United States M-28 or M-29 Davy Crockett Weapon System developed in the 1950’s and having a yield equivalent to somewhere between 10 or 20 tons of TNT.
