NICS stats show sales down by 10% in January

Because there is nothing left to buy.

But remember folks, the VAST MAJORITY of not just GUN OWNERS (of which only 16% are hunters) but of ALL AMERICANS support more gun laws.

Or so that's what I keep hearing.

It must just be a handful of rich slave-raping plantation owners buying all the guns.

Well I don't really care about the "shadow governement" why should I? When I can easily piss off my entire facebook friends list by posting pictures of me at the shooting range...

Its way more enjoyable!

Yeah, I'm not on FB very much but the other day I was on for about an hour and was shocked by how many of my "friends" were complete socialists, I have a lot less friends now.

Funny in that the MSM runs poll numbers stating that the American public wants gun bans/controls when the numbers clearly state the opposite.

Really?

Just because someone owns/buys a gun doesn't mean they don't see the logic in stricter gun control. And how do these numbers suggest otherwise? Not all of these purchases are unique people...lots of guns among a smaller group of gun owners. It is failry common knowledge that gun owners are not the majority...but gun owners tend to buy more than one gun.

I've gotten into the groove of posting really right wing stuff (half of which is way to extreme even for me) just to see the responses... my facebook has become trolling grounds for all things liberal

its quite interesting !

I think there are a thousand variations of 'They're coming to take them away' for threads. You read it right, though I'm not one to be a thread Nazi about O/T on mine anyway.

I'm interested in what this says about the public's feelings and reactions to Obama and his policy goals/direction more than the Governments specific intentions of banning whole classes of them and confiscating what ends up on the ban lists.

Then, as others have noted, the numbers also represent only those over-the-counter sales and NOT necessarily 1 gun per transaction either. the 65 million NICS checks could each represent multiple firearms in the transaction being checked. That's surely not the case a majority of the time, but enough to make the real number there quite a bit higher for physical guns changing hands, I'd think.

We also have this:

(Source)

which sources numbers from at least a couple years ago. Much has been added since. So, while the policies keep pushing people to buy more, which in turn, pushes ore policies in a downward spiral here? The numbers stand as a silent testament to how split the nation truly IS on the matter. Some would suggest the public is in agreement on either side of it.....and while we know there are those who would see draconian new laws passed? This "poll" shows there are as many on the opposite side who need counted along with those most visible in the news.

I just saw your signature... this simple words you spoke make way to much sense... How easy would it be to curb gun violence if you illegally use a gun (not to defend yourself) but to rob or murder... Why not make it a crime punishable by death...

I promise you that MANY people will think twice about picking up a gun to do something illegal if they are putting their life on the line for a few bucks.

Ironically, the same people that want to take away guns and create "Chicago" across the US are the same ones that would soil themselves about the death penalty.

Not true as there are limits in a lot of states as to how many a person can buy, and when a person "buys too many" they can and do get a visit by the BATFE.

Believe its more than 3 at one time and .during specific time periods.

The problem is that there is no legislation being aimed in the right direction (no pun intended) criminals do not follow gun legislation so the laws they are trying to enact only serve to further limit law abiding citizens right to bear arms.

How about stricter penalties for possessing a fire arm illegally, or much stricter sentences for crimes that are committed using guns? Why is nothing like this being discussed? You know, laws that might actually make a difference to criminals with guns.

Universal database and registration, even with private sales........... There was another country that did this too, right before they were all confiscated, who was that again........ I'm trying to think, Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I'm still not getting this connection so many are trying to make.

Are you saying Feinstein works for the NRA?

That the 1994 AWB was just an elaborate 10 year long ploy?

Here as kids, we are taught at young ages to use firearms, and to use them safely. We are hunting at 8 and up, so what about the kids. I feel deeply for the innocents, but it is not the responsible gun owner killing them, but the crackpots and criminals.

Yeah they are.

The fear of a black man as President was a big marketing advantage when you know your audience is racist as hell.

Quick...go out and buy guns...the Black Muslim is going to take your guns away...don't pay attention to his actual policy on guns...he's going to do it secretly.

I just can't stop wondering if 5 years from now some of these people who rushed out to buy guns are going to be thinking "why in the hell do I have a gun???"

I agree very much in your analysis of the problem here. The number of laws or regulations isn't the problem and never has been. We have, by some estimates, over 30,000 laws, regulations and ordinances relating to firearms in the United States from Federal to City municipal level. If anything, we have FAR TOO MANY laws and that creates problems by itself. Compromise, for once, needs to come from the anti-gun crowd for how many laws and duplicate efforts we REMOVE for a change....not add more to.

The sales figures would seem to support others having the same opinion and strongly held at that.

To be very specific though, the laws for illegal possession ARE downright draconian in some places. New York State for instance, I can do FIFTEEN YEARS in state prison for simply having a loaded firearm, without permit and outside of the official home or place of business. 15 YEARS......where in Missouri, I can toss the same loaded gun into my center console or glove compartment WITHOUT permit required at all and never think twice about it.

The laws themselves are part of the issue and what is spooking people so badly. There is no shortage of them.

State by State laws and penalties for illegal possession, carry and ownership of firearms.

Obama is about as black as Michael Jackson and Oprah, not very threatening for a brother if ya know what I mean.
