Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu assured US President Barack Obama on Friday that he does not plan to launch a ground operation in the Gaza Strip - unless Hamas escalates its rocket war, The Daily Beast reported Saturday, citing two US officials briefed on the call.

“The Israeli leadership at this point is leaning against a ground invasion. No one wants that. If Hamas ratchets up the pressure, however, they may elect to do so,” a senior US official told The Daily Beast.

A US intelligence official described the conversations between the two leaders on Gaza as markedly different than their discourse on Iran, in which Netanyahu has refused to give assurances that Israel would not unilaterally attack the Islamic Republic, according to the report.

So it looks like no ground attack is planned right now. However, if a rocket manages to get through the Dome and hit Tel Aviv or Jerusalem I'm guessing that would be a trigger.

Pretty astonished Israel are showing restraint after those two cities were targeted, to be honest. I felt sure they would go in hard once that happened.

Well they're not Cessna's.

Is it me or have they been getting lower and lower each night? Maybe that's keeping the rocket launchers hunkered down?

This particular type that we are probably hearing is a single prop, medium altitude UAV. Most likely, because there are no air defenses in Gaza, they are flying at a lower altitude. Pure speculation but plausible.

Unless Gaza has a natural "prop-plane" hum all the time....

Another possibility is the Heron TP....that thing is a beast and the size of a GA-craft (hat-tip to intrp for the Cessna reference!).

Prop-planes yes. But as already alluded to, I doubt some general-aviation buffs are out cruising the skies over Gaza in their Cessna. All other war-planes in use will be jets.

What other plane? The ocean, the borders and the sky overhead are one hundred percent locked down by Israel. Drones are a single prop craft. So you hear their engine and the engines of at least one other, sometimes two? They are overhead alright, buzzing around all_night_long. And all_day_long.

Armed themselves, they also spot for indirect artillery and naval gunfire. Or maybe that last bombing run.

Got another feed, mobile, apparently in Gaza (although site says Egypt??), hear drones and roosters.

"Low" doesn't mean they are just over the tops of buildings. Most likely operating in the 10,000-25,000' altitude range. Small arms would be useless and RPGs in this case are useless.
