To all the moon hoaxers with trouble learning basic manners for deceased i sum you up below.

I am no psychologist, however I have seen and heard enough over the past years to recognize certain
reoccurring personality traits in those professing to be hoax believers. Although there are varying degrees of each, I have come to categorize the hoax believers into two generalized types: the Confused and the Hardcore.

The Confused are average people who have seen or heard the claims of the hoax advocates on TV, the Internet, or from friends and associates. They usually lack the scientific knowledge or experience necessary to dispute the claims, so they begin to doubt the authenticity of the moon landings. Despite their doubts, these people tend to be open-minded and willing to listen to varying points of view. When giving the opportunity to study both sides of the argument, they usually agree the moon landings were real.

The Hardcore, on the other hand, are a completely different type of personality. They almost always exhibit strong paranoid tendencies with an extreme distrust and hatred of the U.S. government. Rather than allowing the evidence to speak for itself, they will often begin by assuming a hoax and then search for evidence to support that preconception. When they see something that looks suspicious they immediately accept it as proof of their belief. When someone attempts to offer an alternate explanation they dismiss it as a NASA lie. Any evidence that contradicts their belief is described as an attempt by the government to deceive us. They will say that anyone who believes in the moon landings has been brainwashed or is in denial. They are usually argumentative and often hostile.

The Hardcore also tend to be completely close-minded, refusing to consider alternate possibilities. I have often debated with hardcore individuals over various hoax topics and, to date, I have always been able to completely discredit their claims with arguments that would more than satisfy any open-minded individual. However, they routinely refuse to acknowledge the possibility they could be in error. They will stubbornly cling to their belief in the hoax even when they have no creditable evidence to fall back on. The debate is clearly not just about evidence and physics; there are those who believe in the hoax merely because they want to believe it.

Why do some people choose to believe in the moon-landing hoax? I wish I could provide a definitive answer to that question, however I suspect it is a combination of paranoia and, perhaps more importantly, feelings of inadequacy. The hoax believers create a delusional fantasy in which they are the heroes. Their ability to decipher the subtle clues and uncover the hoax is seen as a demonstration of their intellectual superiority. To the hoax believers the more complex and convoluted the theory, the smarter they feel for having figured it all out. To the rest of us the theory just doesn't make any sense.

R.I.P NEIL..

God speed Mr. Armstrong, God speed.

I wish I had been alive back then to watch you walk on the moon live.

I disagree with that, a lot of people who have never read conspiracies have not the slightest idea what may be going on *may* - whether it is depopulation, aliens, secret societies, and such... - people are brainwashed by the media and news - intentially or non intentionally, that's what's happening, and as such theyt are indeed SHEEP

However, that doesn't mean one has to believe every single crap in the internet - in fact, nearly all the internet stuff is not to be taken seriously at all. Still, having something in mind is better than being a mindless sheep.

And those who know nothing of such stories really don't know what's going on. Let me ask you something: Do you think POLITICIANS ARE TRANSPARENT AND GOOD? Yes a lot of people know they are not and quite dirty, what those people who are not aware however, barely see that the ones who rule - bankers, politicans, corporations besides sponsoring each other, are capable of much more evil things than you can imagine all in the name of personal gain.

For the Moon Conspiracy - there is no reason to think the US have not landed on the Moon, afterall they got lots of Nazi scientists, more than USSR did.

So why not - Gagarin, the first person around the Earth and why would US say 'We must do more than USSR, we must go to the Moon' and boost everything to make that happen - totally possible and thus there is no reason to think this didn't happen.

So Armstrong did a big step for humanity, he was a great man because he didn't act as a denier, nor as someone to get into the dirty stories of conspiracies and such.

However, I do not like the rate with which space exploration is going... this is bad,, so many years to just send a probe to Mars...

Ok send a probe, but next time it better be some expo planet? Oh yes the technology doesn't allow... then don't wonder why until this happens why I will think so..

The real blow was when Von Braun perished. He is gone and Nasa went on, not at lightning speed like under him and not without Hiccups. But it went on. Armstrong was an Icon, whom they put in the capsule.

Hey denver22,

One of your previous posts applies here, with regards to the moon hoax theorists.

I have another

If you have a toothache you go to a dentist; if you have legal problems you consult a lawyer. Throughout our daily lives it is commonplace to defer to trained professionals when we require specialized treatment or consultation. If you want to know about the functionality of the Apollo spacecraft, the nature of space radiation, or lunar geology you should seek the expert opinion of the engineers, physicists, geologists, and other specialists who dedicate their careers to knowing such things. These specialists unanimously agree that the Apollo moon landings were real, yet the hoax advocates discount their opinions and characterize these professionals as NASA disinformationists.

The hoax advocates like to paint the picture that they are soldiers in a war against government corruption and stand for truth and justice. However it is they who commonly employ the deceptive and manipulative tactics they accuse others of. They will typically show only the information and evidence that, on the surface, appears to substantiate their claims while suppressing any information that contradicts them. They try to conjure up feelings of distrust and antagonism toward the government. In most cases the hoax advocate's goal is to manipulate the reader, by whatever means, into agreeing with their interpretation of the facts. Encouraging a reader to study all the facts and formulate a scientifically based and unbiased opinion is generally not on their agenda.

NASA is one of the more open and cooperative of all government agencies. They are typically happy to answer questions and assist in locating information. On the other hand, if you contest the findings of a hoax advocate you are likely to be greeted with evasion and, in some cases, hostility. Now which of these descriptions sound like someone with something to hide? I have seen no indication that NASA has anything to hide, but I've seen much to suggest the hoax advocates do. They have often been dishonest with us about their credentials, the availability of evidence, and their interpretation of the evidence. But why would they lie? There are some who truly believe what they say but are simply wrong due to ignorance; however, there are others who are nothing more than snake oil salesmen who's only goal is to convince the public to buy their books and videos. They disparage the reputations of dozens of astronauts and thousands of engineers and scientists for profit. These people can certainly not be trusted.

Armstrong would doubtless have been uncomfortable with all the tributes. People who knew him said he was not a recluse, but he was a private man who quickly deflected credit to others. He described himself, more than once, as a "nerdy engineer." He often protested that while he and Aldrin made the first lunar landing, they merely piloted a mission made possible by thousands of others.

Too much hero worship the world over....that's one reason why people get inflated egos...

Too much credit taken by a few for the works of many (Rich people, famous people, royalty, etc...)

Too much basking in other's glow by association.

Sounds like Neil understood this...

He was no hero. There are no heros. Just people trying to do the right thing.

Dear Dont need no name, We dont need this attitude. People who do great things should be recognized and honored for those things. The world needs heros and the world needs to recognize its heros. We need shining examples and we need to get those examples in front of the people to see how great we can be.

Maybe someday you will see another perspective.....

Once I worked on a project (A very complicated airplane system) and I was in the software group. My manager flat out told me that if it wasn't for me...the system would have never been able to be delivered. It was the first Full Video-On-Demand system (In-flight Entertainment) ever installed in a commercial aircraft. Late 1990s...

I know the system would not have made it, because when I got there the processes and procedures to test and install the system properly just were not there. But, i brought my skill set...and the rest is history.

Did I feel like a hero (In this limited office/corporate environment) -- no. Was I thankful the managers, etc..realized what I did, sure. But I was no hero. Each person brings / brought something to the table. I was just a puzzle piece.

If a few parts malfunctioned in the Apollo program, it would have gone crashing or never made it. Yet those people's works, largely, go unsung. Is their contribution somehow less "heroic" than Neil Armstrong? He was replaceable, and so were the works of those people who designed the thousands of parts. Kudos to him for being the first...

Check out a DVD - IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON. Behind the scenes of the space program...

Making note and elevating someone to a hero are two different beasts.

The world does not need any more heros. Sports heroes, military heroes, All American heroes, religious heroes (Jesus, Allah, etc..Darwin) blah blah blah blah...

When we elevate someone to hero level --- it blinds us as we idealize them to be something more than what they are / were.

I've since moved on to much bigger things, and maybe someday people would apply a hero label to me...but that would be a fallacy indeed. I want no part of that....

All people wanna do is pay their respects. If they want to call him a hero then why
can't they?, He was their hero in their eyes..

To all the posters who wanted to become an astronaut or saw him as a hero..
Carry on posting and paying your respects.

I posted in another thread about the night I sat in my backyard, looking at the Moon, & being struck by the enormity of the accomplishment that was the Moon landing as I realized that at that moment, there were actually human beings there on the Moon.

Turning it around for a moment, I can imagine Neil Armstrong on the Moon, looking back toward his home, the Earth, so terribly far away. More so than any other explorer in history, you just know that, at least for a moment, he had to wonder if he would be able to make it back home.

Neil Armstrong was one of a select few, who believed wholeheartedly in something bigger than themselves, & had faith that the risks were worth taking for a chance at success. Again, seeing him standing there looking back at Earth, remember that he volunteered to put himself in that position. Awesome, isn't it?

If there really is an afterlife, then maybe JFK has been able to say to Neil, "Good Job!"

RIP, Neil Armstrong; Godspeed, Sir

Very sad news. He had just gone through a heart operation so I wonder if it is related to that. He perhaps was the most famous man in the world after setting down as the first man on the moon. It was a fantastic achievement then and continues to be the furthest humanity has traveled in person in our Solar System.

Great man.

More to follow.

Funny thing.... the scientist who invented many of the first soviet rockets that launched there first satalites and orbitors etc etc also died in the hands of dr's, Only for him it was on the operating table. Good way to keep secrets. Just make it look like they died while trying to get care. Like perfect cover up to a possible whistle blower. I keep telling people going to see a dr could be a death sentence. Read: Confessions of a medical heiratic. If you don't believe me.

I take it you're referring to Sergei Korolev? That man was invaluable to the Soviet space program, it is absolutely ludicrous to think they murdered him, and in such a way. If the Russians wanted you dead, they didn't bother with trying to hide it, they just done you in and that was that.

Funny thing.... is how some peoples minds work, or rather, how they don't.
