Wow, that was intense.

To me it's not the timing that's the kicker, it's that both attachment points on the flag let go at exactly the same moment.

It was either rigged, or God did it.

Yeah and what are the odds of that? -.000000000000000000000000000019?

Even if it was MISrigged, the timing is still

SILENCE!

I agree. It must be a really slow news day if the folks on ATS are debating a flag falling.

Seriously people, get a grip. The flag fell down, big deal! Why does it "have to be" planned? Why "must" it be an "omen"?

I think a lot of people here need to reintroduce themselves to the force of gravity. Stand on a chair and jump off, is that an "omen" of something, or a message? No, it's you jumping off a chair, and gravity doing the rest for you.

Oh, and coincidences most certainly do exist.

Given the number of times the flag is flown to the anthem, it had to happen eventually.

Funny coincidence though.

Good grief the wind seemed very gusty during the entire song.
So it was actually blown off the hooks and now its a conspiracy?
I love how the crowd "ooh's" as if it spontaneously ignited.
Now something like that would be a site to see!
Then I'd proclaim "HOLY CRAP!"

But:
You can see it clearly swinging through the duration of the song.
When the flag gets blown too hard, the harness points give way.
I'm sure it's just hooked through riveted holes, or pinch points.
Doesn't seem too odd to me, now if it hadn't been windy...I'd start to wonder.

I don't see anything crazy but then again I'm not looking that hard either.
Probabaly because this is one case where I can actually see the fault.
In my opinion, it was just a bad case of blustery wind.

Now, that doesn't mean it's not a sign...
But one would think it would've been at a different location if it was.
Either way I don't believe in coincendences.

Looks to me like, since the flags need to be changed out often, that there are maybe grommets on the flags and hooks on the rack. Just hooks to attach the flags, not closed loops. So I see the flag blow to its highest point, where it jumps the hooks, and as the wind dies down, the flags weight pulls it to the ground. Perhaps the "coincidence" of the flag falling at the anthem's "does that flag wave" crescendo is explained thus: the wind machine guy was controlling the wind to the great sweeping emotion of the song. "Does that flag still wave" is the best part this is the part of the trip man you know the best part--DOES IT STILL WAVE?! F$%^N A RIGHT IT DOES! and the wind guy blows his wad, cranks the machine up too high...
and blows the thing up over the hooks and away. An act of God, indeed.

You have to admit, it is a little strange that the flag fell right at that precise part of the anthem.... It was likely just wind, but its strange (and a little funny) nevertheless.....

It makes me laugh how people talk when they think they can hide.

I'm offended not only by the flag falling but also by your silly comment.

I don't know how you would feel if it happened to your nation's flag but based on your comment you have no honor or pride.

You my friend are nominated as "Number #1 Moron".

To the mods - I know you asked me not to call the other members morons but come on if the shoe fits.

One time I looked up at the night sky hoping to see a shooting star, and I saw one as soon as I raised my head...

Coincidences happen

It was windy, not really surprising.

What are you proud of? Being born in the USA? Something that you had absolutely nothing to with and took no effort to accomplish?

If a flag falling bothers you...you need to get some self esteem

Well my mind says its just a coincidence, like maybe just a shoddy job mounting it.

But my heart says something entirely far out in the twilight zone.

Either way it's interesting. Nice find.

No......fighting in battle.....defending your rights.
Watching people around me die.....fighting to survive.
You ever been to war?
Try it then you'll know what I'm talking about.

Have you ever had an original thought in that tiny brain of yours?

As of writing this America has won 71 medals. 30 gold, 19 silver, and 22 bronze. Out of 71 times the National Anthem was played during medal awarding ceremonies, the flag fell one time.

So, what was the significance of this one event for people to conspire against the United States and cause the flag to fall during the medal ceremony?

First impression is that of a cheap trick, someone rigging the thing to drop it. Really hope that isn't the case, but if it is, that they find whoever did it. Hoping it was the wind, and a poorly fastened flag. The timing is a bit suspect, though.

Have to add one point - wasn't there already an incident with the wrong national anthem being played? Considering that, a "joke" seems more likely than an accidental coincidence.

Either way, don't think it means anything other than that someone was careless, the materials were shoddy, or someone needs to rethink their idea of "funny".

I understand what you are saying, but your terminology seems to be a bit mixed up. I believe the term you are looking for is "imbecile" (IQ of 26–50), above "idiot" but clearly below the "moron" (IQ of 51–70) you have credited him with being.
