Sounds GREAT! Although, it is easy to oversaturate a market and devalue your product, and when your product is your body, then you certainly do not want to devalue it.

Similarly legalizing will eventually destroy and devalue the morals which upto a great extent is whats holding many societies together with or without the Governments
IMO. This is something we do not value since it isn't much discussed about much on MSM and/or other media outlets in general. This is something you're brought up with in a healthy society. Unfortunately it is a sad state of our society where most if not all aspects of our lives revolve around money which is the ultimate drive towards anything including legalizing prostitution.

Personally I couldn't care what hollywood has to offer to the society. Hollywood is a recent phenomena compared to the societies and cultures that existed long before. It is very well known to misinform and possibly shape the minds with misrepresentation and misconceptions about societies in general

How did we get on the topic of stripping?

Anyways, I have a question for the men who are in agreement with prostitution.
How many of you would sleep with a woman who was butt ugly? Would you charge these women more money?

All we're hearing about is the beautiful people. How do you think these prostitutes feel when day in and day out they have to accept money from sweaty, nasty men so they can pay their bills?
Prostitution is NOT all chalked up the way this thread is painting the picture. Let's be realistic here. Sure, maybe 30% of the men who get prostitutes are attractive, but we need to look at the true reality of a prostitutes clients.

What morals are left? How did the repressive policies and expectations protect our morals in the first place?

We have an entire sub-community that celebrates "baby-mommas" and an entire dialect and vocabulary invented to describe the screwed up familial situations in this country.

We have sex crimes, passionate murders, jealous rages, hate crimes, a national debate on gay marriage and gay rights, a billion dollar porn industry, internet censorship, child abuse, and so on.

Please tell me how the religious right is protecting our morals, and please tell me how it could get any worse?

They only protect if you believe in them and/or practice what is being preached without a blind faith
If one buys into the Hype, obviously its a domino affect. This is not the responsibility of the government but the parents and the generations before them which carefully pass them down to the next which again only occurs in a healthy society.

Thanks for keeping the thread on track. Below is just 1 of several links of studies performed on sex workers and health/psychological issues.

I'm a registered Republican, but these days I believe very little in the party. I'm also a spiritual man, but I've abandoned Christianity because so much of it just doesn't make any sense.

There are monogamous species in the world, like Penguins or Eagles, but those species do not have laws, or religions, or morals dictating they are the way they are, they are instinctively that way. Humans are not.

Why do we create restrictions that set us up for failure? Why do we enter into agreements that are almost impossible to abide by, and often lead to destructive ends? Is it Disney movies fault? Religion's fault? Even the Priests can't stick to their vows, and they end up ruining lives because they failed at something they should never have promised in the first place.

Surely we can agree that it would be much healthier for a priest to hire a prostitute instead of molesting an altar boy?

I just don't understand the whole concept of repressing our sexual desires to the point that we will rape and kill over them?

You're welcome.
Great informative links you posted.

We also need to be aware that sexually transmitted diseases are morphing and becoming more deadly.
www.newsmaxhealth.com...

The U.N. health agency is urging governments and doctors to step up surveillance of antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea, a bacterial infection that can cause inflammation, infertility, pregnancy complications and, in extreme cases, lead to maternal death. Babies born to mothers with gonorrhea have a 50 percent chance of developing eye infections that can result in blindness.

"This organism has basically been developing resistance against every medication we've thrown at it," said Dr. Manjula Lusti-Narasimhan, a scientist in the agency's department of sexually transmitted diseases. This includes a group of antibiotics called cephalosporins currently considered the last line of treatment.

"In a couple of years it will have become resistant to every treatment option we have available now," she told The Associated Press in an interview ahead of WHO's public announcement on its "global action plan" to combat the disease.

Hi everyone, was reading this and felt compelled to join and respond. Been a lurked many years, you know how it is.
Anyway I think my story has some relevance here.

About 10 years ago I was working in Papenburg, Germany, probably the best month and a half off my life tbh.
One off my work colleagues at the time kept going on about a legal brothel, and I use the word legal lightly.

For weeks I refused to go, as I'm strongly against prostitution, I cannot believe that a woman can give herself up a dozen times a night, 7 days a week for money and enjoy it, having some overweight old man with money slivering over her time and again! Anyway, rant over, back to the story.

As I said, for weeks I refused until the last 3 night's. Reassuring myself I would not pay for sex, I went in with my "friend" and another work colleague. When I walked in I was amazed at how pretty these girls were, mostly Russian, as it turned out the brothel was run by the Russian mafia. Well, I forget how many women walked up to us,
But they were like wasps round jam. Now I'm not bigging myself up, but compared to the rest of the clientele, mainly fat Turks, we were A good bet.

One lady caught my eye, she looked so disappointed when I said no. I watched her walk of and sit bk down, every now and again she would look up and stare over. Eventually a man walked over to her. Overweight, looked a mess, blah blah blah, so I waved her over. She was Russian, and spoke very good English. I told her I would not pay for sex but she could stay and sit with me, obviously I was naive, she was their to earn them money. No sex, no money. However, what I could do was by small bottles of champagne once an hour or so and she would be aloud to stay with me. Now I did end up sleeping with her, all three nights. Make of that what you will, but I can assure you it was her decision every time to go. For those three nights I would go in, I would buy some cheap champagne, and we would talk and dance, but what she told me was disturbing.

She came from a poor family, her farther had got in to debt, he couldn't pay it off so the mafia took her, his only daughter. She had to stay there for 3 years and work for them or her family would be in trouble. They would give them coc aine so as not to get, depressed, if that's even the right word. I cannot imagine how she must of felt, or how she must feel now. I prey she managed to overcome it and not become some addict institutionalized in to prostitution.

On the last night, we laid in her room and she wept. She didn't want me to go, but I had to. My point is, that was a legal brothel in Germany. For many I suppose legalizing it will be a god send, but for many others nothing will change. If were legalized, would women really choose that profession I the first place? I'm sorry, but I cannot imagine any woman wanting that for there future. Nimf or not.

Humans are not.

Correction: MOST humans are not.

I have a strange thing that happens when I'm in a committed relationship. Other men become unattractive to me and when I see another man checking me out, I'll give him a dirty look without even thinking about it. It's as though I have some wierd reflex that cannot be explained.

In the past the not so distant past may I remind you prostitution was legal or allowed to exist in many countries it did not degrade society. When you take the money out of drugs and prostitution much of the crime and violence goes away. It becomes safer for all involved.

There are a many reasons men and women would pay for sex. Too busy with a career to meet anyone, physical or social handicap, new to area or traveling, some have a fetish and don't have anyone they trust enough to tell, the list goes on and on. Sex is good. healthy and natural and mankind has been altering his perception since the dawn of time. There are countries that have already made these changes and the crime rate and number of new HIV infection have gone down. There is PROOF that this works. If you don't agree with it for religious or moral reasons get over it no one is asking you to do it. Just do like they tell you and just say no. and for it wrecking marriages a cheater is a cheater if your spouse is sleeping with a prostitute had one not been available it would have been the next door neighbor or someone else. Its' not the prostitutes fault it is your spouse that is the problem.

Someone mentioned what if you kids decided to become a sex worker. Well funny thing kids grow up they become adults and they make THEIR own choices. We may not agree but in the end it was their choice to make. If your willing to shun your child because the church, friends, society does not agree with them you SUCK as a parent. Even Jesus didn't shun prostitutes and YOUR child is always YOUR child no matter what they have done. If you need to pray for them.

Look at the countries that have already done this life goes on. It doesn't rain frogs, people get up and go to work raise a family and everything else just like before.

So, you called the authorities, and told them she was being held against her will right?

I have a good friend, an FBI agent, and he works sex crimes and human trafficking, mostly of children. I'm aware it does happen. Even in my job we often run up against it (usually Asian Massage Parlors), but the problem isn't the sex. The problem is the gambling debt, the desperation, the people that partake of the services, and hear the sob stories and don't go tell anyone.

Either you believed her story, and had an obligation to do something about it, or she was just manipulating you to get more money. I don't know which one is true, but it has to be one of those two.

I've seen mail-order Russian Brides, and I've seen Russian strippers that appeared to be there against their will. I called the authorities for the stripper, but we congratulated the bride for her success in making it to the US.

I've also seen asian men and women basically held as captives working in restaurants and nail salons, working 24 hours per day for their "host" both at work, and at home, (not sexually), living in the same house, for 2 to 3 years to repay a debt for sponsoring them to the US. To me, it seems an awful lot like slavery, and it is definitely indentured servitude, and it may or may not be legal, but it seems terrible, and sex has nothing to do with it.

I know what you mean and I do understand. However It isn't impossible to do you know
It only takes logics and a much much deeper understanding about human nature in general to overcome/control the instincts (sexual desire) in this case. I can surely point you to the tibetan monks for some positive proofs
However not everyone can change their religion and/or belief system but they can certainly put aside the negativity and attempt to learn from others.

Did you watch the Magic Mike trailer?

Seriously, a lot of women (and men) feel like you do, and that is wonderful. BUT, you are not immune to it. Your eyes will wander from time to time, you will fantascize from time to time, maybe you'll never act upon it, but maybe sometime under just the right conditions you will, who knows. You will probably never pay for it, but I've never paid for a perm, or plastic surgery, or tax-preparer, other people do.

I think my money is better spent on a prostitute than a tax-preparer any day.

I guess nobody wants to talk about the larger part of prostitution that's NOT sugary and sweet like our new member Tony brought forth.

Great story, Tony.
Welcome to ATS.
Why didn't you kidnap her? Just kidding.... sort of.

I guess there's not enough Viagra in the world for men to become prostitutes.
Talk about double standards!

It's called instinct. Humans aren't naturally polygamous. We have records indicating that our nature up until the desertification of the SaharAsia region was one partner at a time, and always by consent.

Many of the assumptions of our nature are simply not so. They are a product of being cultured, shaped, and molded. We then reason that what is, always was. Poor logic.

I agree that sexual repression is at the root of prostitution, but disagree that prostitution is the best way through the mess we're in.

Magic Mike trailer? I have no idea what you're talking about.

I just don't understand men like you, I guess. You have an attractive wife and a great family, but you still need to invite another body into the equasion. What happens if the condom breaks and you and/or your wife gets one of these STDs that is becoming drug resistent? Is it worth it?

Getting some disease is just too scary for me. I've always taken precautions, but like Russian Roulette, you keep playing frequently enough, you're bound to blow your brains out.

God Almighty......

sex traffickers would be celebrating about now

Huh??? They'd be out of business. State run or state controlled means women with permits to perform legal sex. Mandatory regular check ups, condoms readily available, and all prostitutes of a legal age. It's a win-win. Decrease in transmission of AIDS. Safer environments. I'm all for it.

Humans aren't naturally polygamous.

Thank you for stating this and the remainder of your post.

Back in the day, it always came back to heirs and I often will pull out my older Elizabethan novels that still speak of romance and chivalry. Somewhere along the line, we have deviated for the worse.

I have lots of respect for the monogamy that animals practice. For example, most people think rabbits will screw any rabbit that comes along, but that's not true. I had a bonded pair of bunnies, but the male recently died. The female will not allow another male to mount her. I feel so bad for her! She must really miss him. They would always groom each other after indulging.

You might want to research into the assumption that it would hurt sex trafficking. If I'm correctly recalling, evidence to the contrary has been released in recent years.

Let me see if I can find a link....

Here ya go

I guess so. Its like everything else. Sweep it off under the carpet

On the other hand, there are male prostitutes as well except their numbers might be lot smaller in comparison to female prostitutes.
