I don't understand Obamacare at all, I try, but damn it's confusing. All I know for certain is that with a family of 6 we can't afford health insurance, but we make too much to qualify for any lower cost insurance. So we found a doctor who gives us 50% off his normal going rate because we pay cash. That alone confuses me, does this mean that he charges insurance twice as much as a cash patient or does he bill that much and insurance pays less? Not sure how that works, but it seems very fishy to me.

On top of all of that, I don't trust the government to not screw this up. Look at the debacle that is Medicaid and Medicare! What a freakin mess that is, there is no way they won't screw this up too. I would love to have health insurance, but we just can't afford it. We pay cash and go see the doctor when we are sick, that is all.

I work for one of the largest health insurance companies in the US. It is about money and has nothing to do with wealth. It is about the poor and Middle Class. The wealthy will always afford the best. The Middle class will pay.American Medicaid is currently the Federal Standard for the poor it is abused beyond belief. The poor, with no limit and allowed unlimited access, abuse States into coverage insolvancy. The middle class managed by their private coverages and their on financial limitations are more responsible. The wealthy are just that and can afford it. With Obama care you will soon see limits set on private, working people coverages. Private insurance will be unable to keep up with Federal benefit requirements. As these companies begin to fail the Middle class will be forced into unregulated and unlimited government benefits that use the failed Medicaid system as a model. In the end it will all fail from the weight of its uncontroled abuse and lack of private coverage., The rich will maintain a seperate system.

Teired coverage is all that works, the poor at one level, the tax paying middle at another and the rich alone. Obama care evens the playing field for the first two groups. The problem is one works and generates income the other does not.

The end results is all equally suffer and the name fior that is Socialized Medicine. The rich will not be impacted

No you have it all wrong, everything corporations touch turns into crap and it is more expensive than it needs be.

To get back to the original question of why people do not support Obamacare, it's plain and simple, the US of A has the most powerful propaganda machine this world has ever seen. This is fact for both sides of the political isle, but in particular, conservative media is probably the most advance form of propaganda ever and spends billions of dollars every year crafting messages to sell pipedreams to the masses so that they a few billionaires can benefit.

You add that to a particular culture here believed by the conservative to trust nobody, everyone is out for themselves, and to live a truly miserable life Add that to the fact that Obama or anyone of power that is not republican becomes their scapegoat, and you have our current political atmosphere in the US.

Let's face it, Obama could give republicans happiness for eternity and republicans would still complain and completely discredit anything that came from Obama because that is the way they are raised and trained to believe.

reply to post by Benevolent HereticIm not sure if you say that for its racial shock value or ignorance. I hate romneys health care system and his false plattitudes as well. I dislike obama simpley because he is like ever political person in office. A complete liar. they use people for there own ends and would say anything to advance there own agenda. I wish it was as simple as saying I dislike a policy because of race. It really isnt that simple though. I really dont care who or what they are, but on there merrits and fruits are they judged.

"ObeyMeCare" is exactly what this is all about..

Fascism, and by Fascism, Socialism is rooted...

This is a "State level" matter, not a national matter...

First off, the entire thing is illegal, because it was never formed in the "House", and it was never ratified by all 50 states, hence it carries no weight in a federal and State court of law...

Second...

YOU cannot "mandate" (strong arm i.e. use fascism") to force someone of this country, to get health insurance, you cannot deduct it, you cannot fine someone for not having it, and it is most certainly NOT up to O'Butt"Ma" to decide "MY LIFE" for me in any way whatsoever, nor any of "It's" henchmen/women...

I choose not to participate in an illegal law, an Unconstitutional law, and a Monarchy mentality system such as "ObeyMeCare"......

Anyone who:
a) supports freedom, limited government, personal responsibility, self reliance
b)understands the irrefutable fact that dependence=slavery(no dependent in all of human history has ever had any power. nor ever will).
c)does not want to eviscerate an already disappearing middle class
d)understands that deficit spending is collapsing the Western world.
e) does not want millions of jobs to disappear
f) realizes that healthcare WILL become far inferior to what it is now

will support the repeal of this law.

Yeah, "Civilized" nations have similar laws. "Civilized" nations that are currently in a state of chaos, upheaval, and collapse. No thanks.

Sounds like a lot of folks on here like to get things for free, not understanding that NOTHING is free. "Entitlements" are chains to keep you under control.

This law will hurt Americans in many ways without doing much to help. It is forcing Americans to buy a private product. This is not to help normal Americans. This is too further enrich corporations and elites.

But go ahead and allow the shepard to corral you into the slaughterhouse. I, for one, will do whatever I can to get this tyrannical law repealed.
Wake up.

What I don't get is the people who can not afford health care now are still not going to be able to afford it later. It isn't like they are changing how much anything costs so what do you do then?

How can a population of a developed nation like the USA complain about paying extra taxes for this when their current government invests more money in war than all other nations combines accross the globe?

Just saying.

Because "Civilized" people are EDUCATED and comprehend that nothing comes for free or is as straight foward as healthcare for everyone. With the average age growing exponentially higher due to breakthroughs in technology and lifestyle changes, the young people who are the ones working a smart enough to realise they should not be working to support all these old people who have had more liberties and prosperity than most throughout history, and created most of the bubbles we have today. The own most of the land and assets now they want the young people who are renting from them and working to try and create a future, going up against massive inflation created by their debt and interest on their loans, and they now want those youngsters to also pay for their healthcare? NO NO NO, you should have played your cards more wisely during the boom, you shouuld have got enough to look after urself and pass something on to help the next generation. Instead you left them to inherit debt, and you pretend its not there just because its not under your name. TO THE ELDERLY, WITH LOVE AND RESPECT: Educate yourself, understand where money comes from and stfu because your generations were the ones that had it good.

The high debt and inflation we have today is caused by their greed and lack of preparation while times were good. Now the liberties and properities are drying up as they continue the cycle they have followed throughout history. And all those that had it good seem to do is point the finger at the young generation calling them lazy because they choose to live instead of slaving away and paying off the previous generations debts. People take for granted that most people can expect to see 50 these days and plan to retire at 60 and may live for another 40 years with medical...

Also the cost of everything in the current system is relative as it is based off supply and demand... what happens when you increase the demand suddenly because people can get free healthcare? Quality drops, price goes up (sure u dont pay bt your govt does which taxes more as required). We need to learn we can not save everyone unless we overhaul the whole system. Socialism or Capitilism - take your pick if you try to have both you will end up with nothing.

This system was designed on capitilism. The strong survive the weak die, if you want socialism, you have to be prepared to give up what you have to share it.. which is all good until you realise how mch you will need to share.

for the same reason that 70% of Americans supported the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

you've been told so.

and you'll always believe what you are told and will never accept anything else as fact other than what you are told.

on a related issue...I know of an open field full of tasty green grass.

Speaking as a person with no insurance, I still hate it. My government is totally corrupt. The most important thing isn't about health care. It's about the precedent set by this law. Americans now have no economic freedom. If the government wants to, they can force me to spend my money on anything they want, if they call it a tax. Any amount up to all of it. Maybe more.

But your comment about war is well taken. What you should understand is average americans no longer have any control over our government. It's corrupt to the core. The media is corrupt. The financial system is corrupt. Elections are rigged. We have no more control about going to war, than we have over buying health insurance. Which is exactly none. We're now effectively slaves.

that's the saddest story i've ever heard as long as i've been on ATS.

strangest thing about the story you tell is that from my point of view...you all chose it for yourselves.

As I am extremely late to this thread and have not read the entire thread (probably won't either), the answer to the OP is this: More taxes = bigger government = more government control.

Extra 2 cents - this is, in my opinion, the first real test of what we are going to do about this.. and so far we are failing it.

Sure... whatever...

If this Obama care is so great for the American people. Then why did congress and labor unions exempt themselves from this Utopian dream.

I don't mean this with any disrespect. I think the differece between us is, one of us is content to be a fat and sassy slave, and the other would rather be a skinny hungry freeman.
