there is none. that's why the world's leaders love institutionalized religion so much; you can never prove it right, you can never prove it wrong. It's just stories in books at the end of the day, and yet so many humans are so easily whipped into a frothy fanatical frenzy over who's right and who's wrong. Religion vs. Religion. Faith Vs. Atheism. Know-it-alls vs. Agnostics. Will we ever stop fighting over the definition of "god" and the universe and life in general? Will we ever admit that we just don't know? Once we admit that we're alone in the dark, we'll realize that all we have is each other. As long as one group is viewed as the "chosen of god" and another group viewed as "infidels" we will never know peace on earth.

"Sex and violence"... Interesting phrase. It is said SO many times in this context that people think they're actually related or similar. As if one has something to do with the other. Or one is as bad as the other... That's crazy!
Sex is something we all do. It's wonderful and beautiful.
Violence is NOT something beautiful or something we do or should do.
Comparing the two is sick. And to do so proves (to me, at least) that religion has warped the mind of those who believe that they're equally "bad" for our kids.

Isn't this really a question of sex vs. violence? Ideally, I would prefer to expose my young children to neither because I think both have the potential of having adverse effects on their development. If the children were perhaps in their teens then I would choose the sex over the violence because I think it is easier for a teen to properly process sexuality and make discerning decisions on that subject than it is for violent acts. Just my opinion.

Considering pornography - and yes, tender love-making can be classified as pornography, considering the "love" aspect of it is subjective to the viewer - is not exactly child-suitable material...
Then again, making your children watch a movie about a man who has been whipped and crucified, with all of the gore visible, when they don't even understand the premise...
This is a rock and a hard place. You are creating a deliberate catch-22...a precarious situation, utilizing that which we've come to label as "adults only" and that which we've come to label as a symbol of loving sacrifice.

My comment holds regardless of which conjunction is used to string the two together.
Sex or violence seems to be a choice where both sides are pretty evenly weighted. I used the conjunction AND because that's the way it's said most of the time. "Our children are exposed to too much sex and violence", as if both are bad.
You can make it all about a conjunction or you can read the message of my post. I see you have chosen a grammar distraction. That's cool. Makes no difference to me.edit on 5/27/2012 by Benevolent Heretic because: (no reason given)

Absolutely, they would watch the people having sex. No question. That other stuff is highly disturbing! It would give ME nightmares!
My husband used to work in a video store. One mother wouldn't let her kids get "The Blue Lagoon" because of the innocent love between two people who grew up on a deserted island... What did they leave with? "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"...
People are nuts! :shk:
