The government would have a protocol for someone calling in by following up to call in to say it was a prank. They could either hold the original guy at gunpoint, or just have someone else call in who mimics his voice.

Yes, and I believe he has used '___' as well (probably a given, I suppose). I remember a friend of mine telling me that she read about some drug Maynard would use that would cause intense "hallucinations". It was so intense that he would virtually have to be in solitude because any overt noises or physical interaction would seriously eff him up while using the drug.

It wasn't until a few years ago, once I learned about '___', that it occurred to me that this was most likely the drug my friend talked about him doing.

It would make perfect sense given all that he talks and sings about. I believe one of the reasons Maynard seems to "cold" or "odd" to some is because he most likely operates on a higher level of consciousness or, at the very least, knows some stuff that makes it hard for him to interact with people on a superficial level.

On that note, I'm now looking to forward to watching "'___': The Spirit Molecule" on Netflix tonight. It's been in my queue for quite some time!

He makes no qualms about how he sells himself. I wouldn't doubt he DID sell his soul to make a record, in some way, shape, or form. Maybe all the esoteric-ness is his way of trying to win it back??

I read his blog as well. I was very disturbed by his saying spirituality is nonsense. That said, I do feel like his overall warnings are not to be taken lightly. Just intuition, I guess.

He admitted that he thought he had been "inwardly compromised". Perhaps his musing about spirituality were part of this compromisation (is that a word??). People naturally turn to spirituality when they feel spiritually threatened. He was telling us we are all spiritually threatened then gave no way to combat this. I wasn't expecting a step-by-step guide, but at least a suggestion about where to start would have been nice. I don't appreciate that he tells us that spirituality is a tool to control us but offers no alternative if he meant to say what he said.

Some very good points being posted on here. Now I'm not a fan of nor have I heard any tool songs but from what the fans are saying it seems they are tapping into the esoteric market. Every band had a target audience this is basic marketing. Seeing as they are mainstream this doesn't surprise me.

In regards to the writer and the magic could this all be viral advertising for the new album? Use and old song and a old story mix it up throw in done magic and dreams and hey presto. Fans are going wild. Just food for ..

Just want to say thanks to the OP for this reminder. I came across the thread at the Tool page some years ago but forgot all about it. I really love and enjoy meditating on the nexus of enochian, tryptamines, remote viewing, and "aliens". (I stopped actively studying this subjects when I become a parent eleven years ago.)

He did gave a way to fight it,many,many times in his blog he mentioned the importance of personal integrity,inner strength and brutal self analysis.He also said that the most important thing for a human to do before he dies is to face his deepest fears,I have read every single post he has ever written and I have tremendous respect for the man.

Maynard James Keenan and Tool are known for their tomfoolery as someone said in an earlier post. So there is absolutely a possibility that the guys from Tool came up with this story and planted it in a fan newsletter to hype up the release of Lateralus in 2001.

I remember some rumors flying around in 1999-2000 that Lateralus would feature a drastic change in direction in Tool's music, complete with orchestra section. When Lateralus hit the public in 2001 it became obvious that there was no orchestra or change in direction; instead Lateralus is progressive rock and has become the essential Tool album to own.

So yes, Tool does like to have fun with rumors. But prank or not, I love any story that has Tool, extra-dimensional beings, Art Bell's "frantic Area 51 caller", Enochian prayers summoning UFOs, and Pahrump, Nevada as the main components.

Cloning the spectral character of a voice is technically easy. Every DigitalAudioWorkstation has the capability these days. Duplicating the person's phrasing/syntax is harder, but it can be done with some training. Just look up youtube with some celeb impersonators.

I wish this thread would have happened a week ago.. Danny Carey just did a drum clinic at one of the school's I teach at on Friday. Would have loved to have asked him about this

I personally believe the first call was genuine. Every time I hear it I get goosebumps and my gut is telling me that something seriously wrong is going on here. The "return call" of the Brian saying he made it up the original call doesn't to me match exactly to the same voice. I don't get the same physical gut reaction when he mimics the original call. The fact that the satellites went down for the entire studio and only 15-20 secs was played on air raises some questions to. You would have a better chance at winning a state lottery than having the entire station going down at that particular moment of supposed disclosure. But, it could just be a bazaar coincidence. I guess we will once again, never fully know the truth!

The guy in the article, telling the story, was working on some pronunciations of a really old language that is linked to Majick. He ended up basically ended up chanting some words and then had a hallucination.
