Whoa whoa, I gotz to step in and speak for the doggies. Cats are smarter? Can cats help detect Cancer? Can cats find bombs and work for the police and armed forces? I have never seen a cat sit in traffic waiting for it's dead friend. I have never seen a cat call 911 for it's owner. Can cats play and sing at the piano
Now I luvz me kitties too, but to speak so negatively of dogs....well I just wanted to add my .02.

To the OP - I can see the issue of too many unattended dogs creating some strife, but they should consider some type of regulations. I am sure at this point there are enough dog owners there that have experienced the bond and would defend their residency. In such a harsh environment, I would think a little love and companionship would be welcomed.

I have. There is a video of that exact thing online. I have seen both a dog and a cat do that same thing. funny that you mentioned it.

Pardon my rant too, but to come on these boards, full of dog(animal)lovers and diss our friends just couldn't go unanswered with a few replies. S'all good, just expressing my position.

While I agree cultures are different, that doesn't necessarily mean all the customs of various cultures are good things. In China, they will grab a cat with a long pole, and boil it in oil while still alive, and peel off its fur. You are ok with that? Nothing wrong with that, because it's their culture, right? Sorry, I don't agree with it.

You are ok with whales becoming extinct? You do realize that many Asian cultures eat things like whales.. and tigers.. and other animals that are becoming extinct, because they feel certain types of meat and products contain special, mystical properties.. right? So ignorance and stupidity is acceptable because it's their culture?

I imagine you are ok with Iranian husbands beating their wives or throwing acid in their faces because they were raped? Yes.. going out there a bit.. just trying to drive home.. culture doesn't mean GOOD. It doesn't mean smart. It doesn't mean it's right.

For the record, more than one study, the most recent with Oxford, has come to the conclusion that dogs are smarter than cats. Bummer huh?

S&F for pointing out this little known fact about Islam. I'm a dog lover, but can tolerate cats.

It's ironic that Muslims are allowed to own cats. Cats are bigger disease carriers than dogs.

As for Muslim taxi drivers in the UK who refuse to take guide dogs, they should have their taxi driver's license revoked. Guide dogs are not ordinary pets, they are a necessity for certain disabled people.

The Muslims who refuse to take guide dogs are selfish. And the Brits are PC idiots for allowing these Muslims to over-ride English customs & necessity.

It's their religion not culture. And a cat being smarter than a dog, where did you get this information, or is it just you're opinion? My dogs are not dirty, they take a bath more than my roommates shower! Cats are not social animals where as dogs are. Choosing cats over dogs says a lot about you're social interaction with other people. As far as pigs being dirty, have you ever seen the chicken coops or cattle factories where your chicken and beef is manufactured? That is far more discussing than a pig rolling around in the mud.

NO i hear most say...well if you were to use a public bathroom, like most of their bathrooms they have a hole type porclein bowl in the ground, they squat and Sh** EVERYWHERE, just like DOGS. Exactly the same....and they leave the mess all over the place.

there's a simple remedy for that. take your dog to a bush, and leave it there.

it is a natural fertilizer. no body steps in it.

i have and never will pick up dog sh-t.

i never understood people who allow their dog to sh-t in the middle of a side walk or concrete and then pick it up.

and don't say there aren't any bushes. there's always a bush.

My dogs can tell if you are a good person or not. Someone with poor or strange social skills cannot relate to dogs, they do not know how to be part of the pack. There is a difference between dogs and humans, the dog is always faithful. Does not say much for the Iranian anti-K9 club.

Islam is pure evil a lot of what their supposed followers do with the religion of peace, I don't care what anybody says, its all lies.

In Iranian culture, dogs are revered. Like how cows are holy in India, dogs are holy in Iranian culture. But this Islamic regime has taken Iran hostage, slowly wiping away actual Iranian history and culture.

It's just me, I know, but why would this be a serious news topic or even a matter of interest outside of Iran? Hey, I LOVE Ferrets. Cute little guys....lovable...as long as one doesn't 'trust' them too far. They're still among the only critters known to hunt in packs AND kill purely for the sport of it with no other gain.

Missouri here breeds Ferrets. One national breeder has really become world standard for this in another state.

California, on the other hand, outlaws these and they have no sense of humor on it. Unless a lot has changed in the last several years out there, it's the needle for a confiscated ferret by Cal Fish and Game.

Horrible...heartless...cruel...but, it's their state and many reasons exist for why I left that one to live in this one. I don't have the right to tell Cali they MUST have Ferrets and like it. They have no right to tell Missouri we can't have them because they don't.


So...Why is it the world figures Iran's attitudes toward dogs is any matter for others? Heck... Dog isn't a pet in some Asian nations. Snoopy is dinner on the paw. I say this as I can hear my two dogs playing up in the family room. I love them to death. It doesn't mean everyone in the world has to though.

Under my feet sits spunky my twenty year old Dachshund, I think the only thing that keeps him going is his love for food, he is kinda pitiful, and stinky, he never leaves my side,

But anyway, how can you not love dogs?

This is not all directed at you, but it follows on from your comments.

If any taxi drivers actually do that, they have no understanding of their own religion.

In Islam, Muslims are allowed to have dogs that serve functional purposes - e.g. guard dogs or sight dogs. Whilst dogs are seen as fairly unclean, it is certainly not a sin under the religion to have them as domestic pets either.

Many posters have referred to 'Iranians', forgetting that this article relates to something the police force is alleged to have done. The article itself states that many Iranians keep dogs as pets. So please refrain from the stereotypes.

Moreover, nobody has even bothered looking into the original source. It is a Christian Iranian news website, one that could conceivably have an agenda given the nature of Iran's vast Muslim majority population and Shi'ite Islam's stronghold on its politics. Perhaps they could be having a dig at both Islam and Iranian politics?

Example - stating the dogs were 'arrested'? Yeah right. Were they taken away in handcuffs too?
