These people don't believe a word they say. I don't even bother to respond to it because it's all BS.

Yes, I believe health care is a right. It's an entitlement. It's freaking human right. Every other developed country in the world believes that except this one. We also don't believe in evolution and have a sizable portion of our population that can't find the U.S. on a map.

And yes, people do die due to lack of health insurance. I knew a young man who died before the age of 30 in his home of a treatable illness because he wouldn't go to the ER because he had no insurance. He was so broke he just couldn't afford another medical bill. So his family and his friends buried him and that was that. Oh I hear it coming now- "He should have been responsible". Yea, from the same camp always harping about morality. Your morality is a joke. It's a justification for your own greed. What a pro-life position-If you don't have money just suffer and die.

And these grandma ads are stupid. None of these people on either side give a damn about grandma. They just want to scare old people to get a little bit of power.

And not only that, people are dying from health problems relating to dental health. Procedures cant cost well over 10,000 dollars....and if you don't have good credit you can't even get a loan to pay for it as most dentists will not take a payment plan, especially for something that high.

Bad dental health can cause heart disease, among many other health problems....but many people never get help because they simply have no money to do so.

I don't understand why health insurance is not pooled in with dental insurance...it should all be together. Makes no sense to me.

Makes perfect sense-A farm of sick people makes more money than healthy ones. All Americans seem to be able to think about is the almighty dollar. Their god is profit and they will do anything to appease it.

The State run pre existing plans vary from State to State.

Some states, like Vermont, are trying to implement their own single payer systems....this way anyone who fills out a W2 form has some skin in the game.

That's why people want universal care....this way everyone pays into the system....and if you should fall on hard times...you can get the treatment you need. No one is going to hire someone who is sick or hurt.

I thought ObamaCare was all about universal coverage ?

Why now am I finding out these 100's of variables ?

I can see many people ending up on Medicaid from this policy.

xuenchen... I don't even know you, but I'll bet you make too much money to qualify for medicaid like most of us do PLEASE don't depend on it.
Btw... not fishing for financial knowledge, I'm just making a factual statement thru experience.
I worked from the time I was 15 until I lost my job 4 years ago and I will be 64 this month.
I sent out more than 300 resumes and filled out applications at everything from convenience stores to Wal and K mart to Loews and Home Deport and grocery stores and government agencies. Most had the same answer, long waiting lists and "if you don't know someone here"... pfffft... my only choice left was early draw SS...I took a HUGE cut (more than $500 per month) and I won't be old enough for medicare until next March..
AND I make too much to qualify for medicaid, so I've been without health insurance and health and dental care for four years. Example: best price quote I got on health insurance was $1,400 per month with $,3500 deductible and co pays to boot... I couldn't pay $1,400 a month for health care if my life depended on it...

I don't seek sympathy and the point to my babbling is PLEASE DO NOT DEPEND on medicaid.

Do you really have no legitimate criticisms of Obama?
Those are easy for me but you, you keep MAKING CRAP UP.
Why?
There are no #ing death panels and there never will be. Several Republicans denied healthcare services to terminally ill people in the last few years. I am sure you heard about those....death panels and that rationing.

Hey, pass me some grandma please? They will probably become food, see my topic here: www.abovetopsecret.com...

I know it's rather crazy, but I always thought ATS was a place to "think tank" things out. Lately I've seen a lot of thread bashing or moderators straight-out close topics or move them to a "trash bin". Pass me the salt, grandpa is bit dry. Xenongod

Where have you been? We've had death panels way before obama-romneycare "reform". These death panels are called for-profit-health-insurance which, by their arbitrary decision, can trump any prescription, dosage, examination or procedure ordered by your doctor by declaring it UNECESSARY or TOO EXPENSIVE!

If you are going to raise a stink, at least do it the right way, with facts! Fact is, US health for profit scheme is an abomination. You seem the type, apologies if I'm wrong but doubt it, that foams at the mouth with statements such as: "Can't pay? Then DIE!" "I got mine, screw you and your kids, go DIE."

Trillions for banksters, trillions for genocidal wars of aggression, yet what gets some people's panties in a bunch? Helping your neighbor in need over the obscene insurance and pharma companies' profit margin.
You believe we live in a "Mad Max" scenario? We actually live in a society where taxes should be used to help the ones in need instead of lining criminals' pockets.

If you want to hold on to your megaselfish attitude, then think how not caring for the sick will affect YOU. People too poor to pay for health care will end up propagating disease that will affect YOU directly, not to mention your loved ones. It gets worse! Getting sick from an outbreak may cost YOU...get ready for it...MONEY!

Empathy, learn it.

What goes around...

You keep saying "socialism" yet either have no idea what it means or are totally out of tune with the corporate style government in place. Such is this disconnect that you seem to apply "socialism" towards an imaginary reality probably shaped through Fox News viewing marathons.

Socialism is not mandating people to purchase private, for-profit insurance regardless of their financial situation or need. Socialism is not refusing to regulate big pharma's obscene, arbitrary mark up of medicine prices.

Socialism are public schools, public libraries, very affordable public transportation, state police, state fire dpt, medicare, social security, military veteran health care, etc.

Im sure you're all for privatizing these as well?

Trillions for bankers and corporations. Trillions for the pentagon to wage wars of aggression/genocide.
All that is dandy, yet you get steamed at EVEN the thought (no matter if real or not) of people in need receiving assistance. "I got mine, screw you and die", right?

Shame.

You're right.

It's called life and sometimes it sucks.

The problem comes when government/society starts providing a safety net for those who fall.

I'm not an ass. I'm not a cold-hearted bastard. But people need to start relying on themselves. They need to take responsibility for their actions, whether deliberate or accidental. There are no assurances in life. There are no do-overs, no resets.

I am a poor dude scratching a living by. I have tried to make ends meet, but I just can't seem to crawl out of this hole.
I have had some major problems for some time, can't stop coughing, I sold what little I had left to get a checkup finally when blood started coming out.
The bad news, I was found to have a fatal form of cancer if left unattended for much longer
The good news, there was an operation that could fix it. its cost was 10k.
I could not get a loan. I could not negotiate any sort of payment plan. Basically I was told since I don't have the cash, to go die.

I walked down the street, sort of ended up in some neighborhood. Totally distressed and a bit out of my mind of how I will just die on the streets with no care from anyone.
I looked at this nice house...big sign above the oak door saying "Beezer's Estate".

With nothing left to lose, I walked around back, murdered a rabbit man, and his family, and stole every freaking thing under the roof. It is now survival of the fittest, self preservaton kicking in. Sad that it lead to this..at least this beezer guy will get a nice funeral...and I get to have my life saving surgery.

My final thoughts when walking away with the loot was "Life sucks sometimes, but hopefully this guy knew there are no assurances in life, do or die".

Ya..I don't like your view of how the world should be...matter of fact, I fully reject it..mostly to protect you from a desperate person with nothing left to lose.
How far would you go to ensure your life? How far would you go to ensure your childs life?

It is in the interest of everyone to get everyone covered somehow.
If the only way you can provide for yourself is by taking from others, well, good luck with that.

It is in the interest of everyone to get everyone covered somehow.

Of course. Or else you'll kill us if we don't give in to your demands.

Its funny how a lot of people on ATS claim to love their fellow man but, due the rampant hypocrisy on ATS, will refuse to pay a small amount of taxes for universal health care.

"Socialism!" They scream as if that somehow makes it bad. Or "Its your own fault!" they insist, as if they never had any help fixing their mistakes.

Its sad to see so much hypocrisy, but it is expected. Do not worry, my friends. Even though you would never help me, if the time came where it was necessary to do so for you, I would. : )

When you are old and have sickness and when you are denied health care, it will be my liberal "socialist" programs that keep you alive. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Individuality.
Self-determination.

It's funny that you ask for just a little money so you can get what you want. When all you had to do was work, plan ahead, and you would have had it anyway, without our "little bit" that you ask for.

They couldn't even find a woman to play the role of grandma?

Anyway,

The quotes they used are Obama talking about Paul Ryan. I think we are beyond being fooled by this type of deception. The only people who believe this stuff are those who want to and those who know it's a full blown lie, but get hard off anything that is anti Obama.

In the words of our First Lady "Good Luck . You're gonna need it. "

it probably would have been easier to think 10 years ahead if were weren't working to feed a ton of "poor" kids...

at least the seniors worked the majority of their life contributed more than kids into the system!!!

and why is the social security fund "broke"? oh ya...the gov't took the money out of it promising to PAY IT BACK WHEN IT WAS NEEDED, to build new schools, to pave new roads, to feed a ton of poor kids, provide them with medical care, subsidize child care centers, give aide to other countries who turned around and then commenced to fly planes into our buildings, to have wars upon wars, not with the countries that were responsible for flying planes into our buildings by the way!!!

and no, no, no, with all the griping they give about how immoral people are about not paying their bills, the gov't (the taxpayer) shouldn't have to pay the debt the own to the seniors!!!

we aren't in a bind because of the social security funds, heck that has provided more pork money into the budget for the last 20 or more decades than anything else!! we are in a bind because people who already have more money than they could spend in a lifetime want more and blew the economy to get it!!!
let's see them send grandma over a cliff!!!

I agree. If people would spend all of there time planning and working for plans then we would all live until we die when a plan wasn't made for an unforeseen situation. Get cancer? You should have planned for that. Get shot while held hostage during a robbery? Not enough planning ahead and working! Buy healthcare and get screwed over by the service provider, well you should have planned for that! Plan plans plans.

I get it, I really do. You hate paying for stuff like universal health care and you love money. I see, I see. On the other hand, I hate money, I really do, and I love paying for things like social programs, that I do.

In the end though, we are both right. I have my opinion about an issue that has no clear cut "right" answer and you have yours. All that matters though is what actually happens. And when we do have universal health care, well you are free to take advantage of it.

Of course you can always refuse and continue spending your life planning for situations that will likely never happen, no one is stopping you. Pass that constant "planning for every conceivable scenario" trait on to your kids and BAM new generation of Beezers to criticize and condemn those who haven't planned as well as them.

Already have it, my man, my friend. Free health care for me 100% of the time. That is the advantage of having your country being taken over by controlling people who institute laws without our consent and force us to follow them. Yup, yup, even though I already have free health care and nothing to worry about, I would still be willing to pay for yours(even if your plans, god forbid, failed).

Universal Health Care FTW!

but we don't have a "free market system"...
if we did, our medical care would not be costing as much as it does!!
and there wouldn't be as many people running to see the doctor as they are....
alot of these women wouldn't be working since that subsidized child care center wouldn't be there.
and.....there'd be alot less banks in this country, since the too big to fails would have FAILED!!!

what is undermining our constitutional freedom is the fact that more and more people are being force to be dependent on another, and that other far too many times end up being the gov't social programs...
the gov't can do whatever they want in that regard, but until the business sector grows some morality and starts valuing the workers...ALL OF THEM...enough to at least pay them enough to live, untill the landlords, the doctors, the ceos decide that their freedom isn't worth that big rent payment or salary, ect...well, that freedom is gonna be undermined!!!

offshoring runs contrary to our constitution also and is just as much a threat as socialized medicine!! and is one of the driving forces that is making socialized medicine necessary!

SOCIALISM!

That's all they have to do in order to get the people against something that would benefit them.

America is overrun by blinded patriotism, these people would rather die of a disease that could have easily been prevented rather than to pay a few more taxes for health care for everyone.

The right loves to take the facts out of the equation, and once they do that...anything is possible. Just take a look at how your average American reacts whenever you mention the word "Socialism"

It's just ironic how many Americans say they hate socialism

But don't you dare touch their social security! or Medicare! or Unemployment!

"Socialism"

Oh no! Kill it!

Nah, nah, in all seriousness I liked your comment a lot. A purely capitalist society is a cold place to live. Uncaring and un-honest is not good. Without programs like food stamps, I might have died as kid of ten. I doubt the "free market" would have helped back then. That would be bad for me. Not for Beezer though, who hates taxes and socialism.

That being said, I am grateful Beezer, you saved my life by paying taxes. Even though you did not want to. Thank you Beezer(and everyone who pays into social programs.)
